Absolutely! I'm French and I have only two hours of English per week. And we don't really learn how to speak English very well, but teachers prefer us to learn grammar and irregular verbs. Because of that, my English level is not high at all.

Thank you for the forvo suggestion, exactly what I was looking for. I was taught British English and I mostly work with people speaking American English. So recently, I began to notice I occasionally completely butcher the pronunciation and what comes out is something in-between British English and American English haha.
By the way, I have a small request. Can you please bump up the sound level of your voice? It's is too quiet compared to the rest of the video and I have to crank up the volume way up if I'm not in a dead quiet room.

Also, thank you for mentioning transcripts for hard-of-hearing viewers. Some learners can only learn how to read and write the language because they can't hear the pronunciation clearly, or at all.

I'm still hoping Lucy will do a video coving the Suffolk accent. This is often pasted over, when people think of UK accents. There is so many phases and ways of saying things that is only heard in Suffolk. Outside of Suffolk, I'm often asked if I'm Australian because of my Suffolk accent.

If you use Google translate and you don't understand the language you translating to you can have pretty big misspellings and translation mistakes. I noticed that when translating from French to English. I've started doing that since almost 2010/11. But thanks to a mixture of British/American people on Twitter & Google translate I've succeeded to highly perform my English Level & built almost my own dictionary. Though Google translate still useful sometimes & if translation is incorrect I now see that straight & correct it by myself

And further on: '"I should't be much the better for that, you see,' says I."'
The writes uses alternatively 'Said I', 'says I', and say I.'
But my question is: why does he write 'says I'?

I'm not Mrs Lucy, but I am willing to give a guess as to why RL Stevenson wrote this way. He was a Scottish born writer that lived from 1850 - 1894, so I would wager that it was the parlance (style of speech & writing) of the era he lived during. Hope this helps!

Yes, that would be very helpful
I recommend you get the English version of the book you read in your native language and which you like. For example, I love the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, I'm Czech and I've read those books in Czech about 15 times. I go back to them every two years. I know the plot, the characters and all the dialogue well. So, as part of my English studies, I bought the books in the original language. Many words I didn't know, I didn't even have to look up in the dictionary because I remembered the Czech version and deduced everything. I enjoyed reading - it's better to read your favourite book than something you would see as an obligation. Moreover, Tolkien was a professor of philology, a linguist, his work with language is amazing and it was great to read it not only in a great translation, but just in the original language.

As for me - Duolingvo is very useful for beginners. I studied Spanish with it. But I also read a book of grammar in parallel. I think that when studying language, we have to use different tools.
