Don't get a garbage can, John, get a paper shredder. It could be your signature move... answer a viewer mail then shred it.
+lmiddleman I like this. :)
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech || Rather get one of those arduino tweaked trashcans that detect when you throw something at them and make a sound, maybe the sound mario does when he jumps a barrel or something ^_^ (More junk. You know you want it. You know you need it!) XD
Or use a tablet and read them off that saves paper too ☺️
Johnny AFC Or he could use a different tablet for every message and then try to crumple them after he's done reading. That'd rise the views like 9000% XD
I love your dubbing at the end of the video. I was laughing so hard. :)
The syncing at the end was so perfect, are you sure that wasn't just the original audio?
+googleboughtmee ...it starts out as a hobby and someday he'll become a professional voice over actor...
+keeper7keys2003 Thats Matts job
Regarding that Pac-Man Light. I think Tighe Lory got one, but didn't like it, because the default colour of the plastic is white and it turns into a colour when you power it on. I guess it had to be white otherwise, it would be hard to change colours on it, otherwise. Something to consider.
Me thinks, John's having doubt's about getting rid of Outrun....
This might be true. :)
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech I would be a bit sad if you got rid of OutRun. It's my favorite arcade game, fond memories of it during my childhood, and that's a true Sega Classic :) And I know you like "happy" themes and come on, this is totally a happy racing game with its own humor and its colorful graphics. ;-)
I got one of these cabinets for free, intact except for the missing control panel, and this series of videos is exactly what I'm going to need when I get motivated enough to do the restoration. Thanks!
Awesome! Good luck.
John I have the same tool for trimming t molding. I wouldn't recommend applying all of the new t molding and then trimming. it's generally best to use the flat top of the cabinet and just do a couple feet at a time. otherwise you will run into issues cutting the t molding around the curves of the cabinet.
+amplibax8 NOW YOU TELL ME!!! :)
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech
damn did you already do it?
amplibax8 yes, and it sucked!! :)
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech
well at least you know how to do it next time ;)
amplibax8 I just redid the t-molding and did a follow-up video. :)
Tricky Tricky John I saw you used the same footage of drying the joystick parts twice ;)
+AceGamingCentral Did I? Ha! If I did that was a total mistake!
i bought me a cabin too today, laser battle from 1981
muito bom !
The first joystick you took apart had a shaft from a Super Punch-Out or Arm Wrestling joystick, both of which are rare. Notice the threaded extension on the bottom of it that the other two joystick shafts didn't have (good view of it at 20:25). That's for screwing on the mushroom-shaped brass piece that activates the 5th microswitch when you pull up on the shaft (toward the sky). I wonder how that happened, i.e., did Nintendo decide to use up some leftover SPO/AW shafts when they were making Vs. Unisystem joysticks or did some operator inexplicably swap it in there?
The best thing to do with the disassembled Nintendo joystick base is to fully submerge it in a solvent for a while, such as overnight. Gasoline is a great solvent, and at only a couple dollars a gallon, it is plenty cheap enough to use for submerging parts. Gasoline is basically a type of naphtha, which is why you can use it in a Zippo (though it isn't very clean-burning compared to the much more refined naphtha used for purpose-made lighter fluid).
After soaking in gas and then scrubbing it clean, especially the pivot ball/socket (get in there with a combination of brushes, Q-tips, and pipe cleaners), clean it with a degreaser (blasting it with brake cleaner works great), then lubricate it with 3M dry-type silicone spray (08897 is what I've used for about 10 years; awesome stuff).
Wear latex gloves when dealing with those chemicals.
Whow, that smell of the auto body filler (which Bondo isn't the only *brand* of) is filling your whole garage! It's strong! Your garage already smells like an auto body shop! Totally familar from back in my days of auto body class in high school, and when *I* also worked at a sign shop for a little while, called Scenic Solutions.
I love that smell, but I don't wanna ruin my brain on it!
cool guitar lick at around 51 minute mark.....a very slight hint of led zep's "when the levee breaks"
Thanks! Led Zep inspired fo' sure.
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech its a funky lick...love that song....plus, living in new orleans & getting wiped out by katrina it has even more meaning to me hahaha (im smart bomb on klov btw)
Another fresh John's Arcade. Good. I need my daily dose of John's Arcade like it's a drug lol
I can´t wait to see the 1st part of the Pro Monaco GP restore video. This game looks very interesting and fun. ;) Hopefully you will start soon...
really didn't like the king of kong movie. made people at twin galaxy look bad and makes you want to hate them.
John do a Q and A or just tell me what your day job is!
Hello Friend, My name is Diogo, I apologize for spelling errors as I am using the google translator. Congratulations on your channel, it is wonderful ... I live in Brazil where there is almost nothing about arcade and what have they charge a fortune I'm realizing a childhood dream is to build an arcade cabinet Mortal Kombat 1 and I wonder if you have the art (side, controls and marquee) to disponibilizarm so i can download ... I'm sorry to ask this but here in my country there is to buy and if I import the US would be expensive .. .a big hug of friends from Brazil!
John! You seem to always want to set the camera almost behind you, probably to help us feel like we ARE John! (e.g. table) Problem is then too often all we see is an arm or a cap!
Sometimes moving the camera to the side or even in front of you would actually provide a much better viewpoint for the audiance!
Anyway, great stuff as always. ;o)
I've been using the paint method for years now. The guys over at the local shop know immediately when i'm in because the girls in the front flag me. = _= so what if i happen to bring some large items in, it's not like i brought a car door with me...yet.
1:38:09 ish John just became the Bob Ross of bondo world. ;)
You pretty close to finishing that one up, looking forward to seeing what game it's going to end up being.
John, miss these videos fella. Hope that the basement & yourself are well!
I made viewer mail!!! So awesome.
I am also excited for the Atlanta video. Now, I actually have a little money, and I am getting some space to work with soon. It was great to meet you and Ben there, and I hope to see you again next year.
lol you do know theres a tool that removes the c clips easily there worth the 8 bucks all diff bends and sizes too
sure know what i am going to ask already. why haven't you tried using wood filler on wood yet? : p wood filler would seem to be easier to use. also "Too little obvious compremises it's hardness and weakens it's strength, but too much not only dramatically reduces
the amount of time you have to work with it but harms its ability to bind well with surfaces." least what read here. forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=191452
I like Bondo!
Is your wife using the blower,, i heard a lawn mower in the back on the last one lol nice
wow fresh new video :)
just checked, uploaded 35 seconds ago!
Love the 3 star Germany hat. The new one has 4 stars for 1954,1974,1990,2014 WC victories. I just got a WCS'94 because I love the pin and team to beat is Germany. I've also seen you wear an Italy hat and a Toyota NASCAR hat. What's the deal my brother?
When I travel I like to buy soccer hats (usually Adidas) based on my heritage. :) And I drive a Toyota FJ. :)
That color is dead nuts on. I thought you were going to say "This is brown paint"
This is awesome!!! It's only Thursday!!! I needed this!
John, you should try using 100% silicone *grease*, not silicone spray, to lube up your joystick rebuilds. The spray is too thin, and doesn't really prevent metal-to-metal wear the way an actual grease does. You'll notice they'll feel MUCH smoother as well. You can get it at any auto parts place. (I buy mine at O'Reilly's, where it's sold as 'spark plug boot grease', aka dielectric grease, and costs $3 for a small tube, which is plenty for multiple rebuilds.)
+andybaldman For automotive use, I find myself using white lithium grease a lot. You can get it in a spray and it works its way into spaces pretty good when sprayed. Then, it dries somewhat and becomes a nice smooth grease for metal to metal contact. It would also work pretty good for joysticks like this that involve metal to metal contact.
EPIC ENDING!. :) Love it
It's not that weird that you've spent so many hours of your life cleaning with Mean Green, but it's a little weird how many hours of my life have been spent watching you do it. LOL.
+Rasdock lol
You could have done this easily by doing the bondo with the cabinet standing upright and putting some plexi on the inside when filling in the large gap. Then where needed a 2nd light application on the inside where the plexi was followed by some sanding. By putting the cabinet on the side you made it hard on yourself. And you use too much hardener :)
+Scythe42 EVERYONE SAYS I USE TOO MUCH HARDENER! I LOVE THAT RED STUFF! :)
Like the "Jump Bug Blue" boots. They make a good fashion statement for the arcade restore crowd. You should wear them to Grinkers!
Lol. :)
John vs the c clip lol
+vaxbuster I've never messed with these in the arcade stuff as of yet, since I don't own one yet, but I used a combo of very fine tip screwdrivers and pliers with my R/C car C and E clips. Granted, the tricks are a bit different since you're working with something like 1/16 or 1/32 E clips sometimes. Heh.
+rotaryturbo07 Those arcade ones have quite the spring to them. I've had one fly across the midway before, never found that sob.
Yea, the R/C ones are the same way. They're small enough they just flat out disappear when they spring off. It's one of those things you keep a supply of around, since they're so easy to lose and so hard to find. Forget finding one of those tiny ones.
did u get a chance to see Pixels if so what did you think of it?
1:52:42 for the story of how John got his Donkey Kong.
if you going to use the stick rap it up in wax paper
What a great way to end a week with a new John's Arcade Video! Thanks John for your videos, they're like a gift everytime! :) Have a nice week-end!
11:54 - I say this to myself at work all the time!!!
I thought you were gonna present this arcade machine to its new owner? Or is this something that is given on Christmas day?
+Mad Conservative Crimefighter Check later today!
ROFLMAO the ending!! X'D
Great video John! I love watching how your bondo work has improved over the years. Thanks for showing off the router work too.
Hey John new subscriber here. Loving the show, really enjoy the read outs at the end. Keep the paper it adds a great feel to the videos, I'm looking forward to more!
I'm getting into cabinet making myself and your videos help a lot. Keep up the great work, watching from over the Pond. Great Stuff.
+Kris Rosk At this rate, people should just send him actual viewer's mail; then he doesn't have to waste paper printing it haha
Like in the Old Days ;-)
Best end of the episode ever!
Love you're passion for this hobby John, keep the video's coming man!
@John: Quick tip: Next time you have to repair such a dent like the one on the bottom - just take a hot glue gun and glue a sick like wooden one with a straigth edge plain to the cabinets edge. After that you can fill the gap easily and make it flush using the spatula. To avoid the stick of being sticked to the cabinet you have to first cover it with a sticking tape and wax its surface. The resin doesn't stick on wax. Using this method is much easier.
+zauche81 Trying to figure out which repair area you are talking about? Seems like a good idea but I'm not sure I follow!
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech : Actually like you're doing at 1h14min, but instead of holding the wooden stick to the base of the cabinet I'd cover the part of the stick with a a sticking tape and wax it. After that glue it to the base and than just fill it up with putty and make it plane using a spatula. Once its cured simply remove the stick.
The fabled Sunday video!
That was a great video John. Worth the wait. Cant wait to see the next one!
Thanks!
All time you make me smile .how you work
Hey +John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech can you please do more work on the pinball machine? I recently started work on a Gottlieb system 3 Cue Ball Wizard and I'm struggling, shit is no joke and i'm so lost.
Just watching you work on your pinball taught me so much. It's my first Pinball restore and to say it is overwhelming is an understatement lol.
Thnx again for your clips, they are very very useful, Cheers!!
+BottleBrassMonkey I will eventually. :)
+BottleBrassMonkey I just stripped all the parts off a Cue Ball Wizard playfield that was headed to the trash. I have a box of parts now. You may wand to keep my contact info in case you need something. I planned on ebaying the parts but never get around to it.
AdamDIY Wow thankyou that would be amazing, I will definitely need parts once I figure out what I need.
Do you have an email I can reach you on or I'll just bookmark your youtube page and contact you there?
loving the vids but I can't help checking the time as I think, do some more and..... 'ok thats a rap for this vid' ahhhhh. Any chance you can maybe split the upload as I am constantly checking. monday, nope, Tuesday, nope. Wednesday, nope, stick to bloody Monday lol
I'm trying. It's a lot of work to restore the game, film, and edit. Takes days.
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech I know man, maybe hire someone or get your wife involved..... wait a minute, forget that idea lol.
I do this for fun. :)
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech you need to be doing this for a living mate :-)
You need some better needle-nose pliers! :)
wassup john
Hi
NICE ENDING loll ;D
why bondo? Wood Putty or filler isn't strong enough? Putty is thick and easier to clean and sand.
+Jason Hicks (TyrForFreedom) I

www.chompingquarters.com/store.php/products/true-offset-nintendo-t-molding here your off set 5/8 t-molding :)
+uhfnutbar1 I'm well aware of Bill's t-molding. That is WHITE. I need black.
That poor computer space.
he'll get to it eventually...
+Jon Davies It worth more than all those machines in the garage Times 3. Wasting away.Freezing weather and fiberglass? Not great.
I know. Actually I sorta know the guy who found that before John got it
+Tom Hertz It will be in the basement #soon. I have a plan. It's not gonna stay in the garage this winter. I am gonna work on it in the basement. Let me get this woodworking stuff out of the way while I can.
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Cool. We will be watching. mucho dinero
