John, Next time , try temporarily installing the t-molding on the straight away , cut it, remove and move it over install the uncut portion over so you are on the straight away again . Rinse repeat and then install your new cut t-molding. This tool was clearly intended for straight counter tops. Awesome video John!
John, I just filled some small spots like the ones you filled on my Playchoice countertop. If you allow the Bondo to gel (about 15 minutes) you can then get a razor blade and slice the Bondo down nice and flush with your surrounding surface with no sanding! Worked well, I will be airbrushing the paint over to blend. Good video.
John how about measuring where your corners are going to be on the t-molding, and then putting those areas temporarily on a straight away--trim it and then pull back out and then put in proper spot it will be trimmed around the corners.
+ed baert That's what I was thinking, cut it all on the straight away. Hammer it in, cut, pull it out. Repeat until it's all trimmed down, then hammer all the t-molding in place.
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech And for reapplying the sideart, don't be afraid to mark some lines with a pencil. It can be cleaned up pretty easily. Pencil is a carpenter's friend for wood-like surfaces :)
Regarding that t-molding cutting tool problem with corners. Next time you could get a long piece of wood/plywood (or whatever cabinets are made of) with the same thickness as the sides of the Nintendo cabinet. Then you cut the exact measurments of the offset groove and then put the oversized t-molding on that, cut it with the tool, move the t-molding up, cut it some more, move it up, and then you have a pre-cutted t-molding ready to apply. You don't need to cut it on the actual cab, you're doing it on a long and straight piece of wood that's a replica of the sides of the Nintendo cab.
John when using the t molding trimmer put molding on front of cabinet trim a few foot at time pull molding out slid up keep working small pieces till you get the entire length done it will take time but you will get the finish you want keep up the great work
In addition to what you did with the staples, I would have screwed and glued a piece of wood over the crack from behind (covering and reinforcing as much of the crack as possible without interfering with the mounting of the coin door).
John, I have to say.. I always thought you were saying "Wrap-Attack". I while back I figured out its really "Rapid Tac". I found it on Amazon. Its pretty easy to come by and there are lots of how to videos on this stuff. It appears guys who put art on cars, use Rapid Tac.
I used to work at a place that did custom vinyl graphics for cars and we made our own rapid-tac with water, rubbing alcohol and a drop of dishwashing detergent. I don't remember the proportions though.
Looks pretty sharp to me man. I'm looking forward to seeing what game it's going to end up being. I still fire up my old NES every once in a while. Never saw a vs. cab in an arcade though.
08:15 - from the feet, John, not from the back! Btw if you take an spatula to put off the rest of the bondo, you will get a nice smooth finish AND you dont have to use the towel. And there are a lot of spatulas on the market, each one for his own work/mission. I mean its true, you dont see the 2 cracks under the control panel when ur playing, but YOU KNOW they are there :-). I would have made them nice and smooth, but anyways, good work and I guess you motivate a lot of guys out there doing the same!
For the cutter thingie: Put on a few feet of t-molding on a long edge then cut it, then move the t-molding and cut the next few feet until you have the total length you need. Basically using the large edge of the cabinet as a guide for cutting. And why don't you put on the sideart when the cabinet is lying on its side? Way easier, as gravity is not working against you.
Me Yelling at the kids just now... "Will you knock off that banging!! I am trying to watch Johns Arcade!! You know I wait all week for this!" Kids: "Uhhh its not us..." Me Leaning in close to the speaker... John!!!
is it possible you could sell me the same model of coin door i cant find a replacement for my cabinet the coin mechanism wires are cut and the coin door lights are missing . my cabinet is a Joust vs.uni system with a robocop data east pcb installed instead of the origional any links would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance - matt
John, I'm a HUGE collector of the marquis IGT S2000/ I-game kits and into restoration. I have 2 IGT slot machines in my room and swap kits in and out of the machines all the time. If you want info on IGT, check out my channel. WMS/Williams is the current addiction. Tread lightly in this hobby, it can be as addicting as arcade games. Anyway, I'm in Boise, Idaho...maybe I'll see you guys at Grinkers this weekend! -Jason
What is that drumming sound in the background? Perhaps I missed a comment during the video as to what it was...? After a while it became a type of water torture and I had to stop watching the video.

+Charles Smith Yeah, I know now. I will address this in the next video!

You and I would get along just fine. We both take the same exact approach to learning new things. Just diving right in! :D

Lol, part of me was wishing the paint was brown when you opened the can ;) Thanks for the great vid, man!
Arcade outsiders and a episode of johns arcade!!!! What a good day!!!

New episode of John's Arcade!!! Everything else can wait.

"You always want to make sure your tube is clean." I agree with this.

good work, excellent outcome as always. kids call it pop in the UK as well.

+Scythe42 NEXT VIDEO! :)
My guess is the game is for Steve at Grinkers and is in The Tournament?.....that would be a cool reveal.
Me Yelling at the kids just now... "Will you knock off that banging!! I am trying to watch Johns Arcade!! You know I wait all week for this!"
Kids: "Uhhh its not us..."
Me Leaning in close to the speaker... John!!!
Awesome! I can't wait for the big reveal!
Lookin good, man! You've inspired me to clean up my conversion vs cab (dk blue) :)
VERY GOOD !
John sounds like Bob Ross, as he paints his cabinet
cut the hole role all on the straight away and then put the t mold on your cabinet then you got the bends cut
In England we call it pop, or fizzy pop. We say soda when we mean that bland stuff you use as a alcohol mixer.
same in the rest of Britain in the English language (Wales and Scotland) as well.
You should sign the part of the cabinet that's under the control panel. ;)
YOU cut all the T-molding first on a flap part cab then install t-molding :) ha ha ha you should watch Tie video tick tisk tisk
+uhfnutbar1 I know this now. Wait for my next video. :)
The original side art has a red border around it, bummer the reproduction didnt have it although it still looks pretty good.
+73mathesar Oh, really? I didn't notice. HUH.
fantastic
Just a thought. Could you have put it on a straight 5/8" board and trimmed it before installing?
if you really wanted to reinforce that crack you could have glued a thin piece of wood behind it on the inside of the cab
+Jon Davies It's pretty strong, really. :)
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech yeah I just used to have a Gauntlet to 4p xmen cab with alot of those cracks and that is what I wanted to do
is it possible you could sell me the same model of coin door i cant find a replacement for my cabinet the coin mechanism wires are cut and the coin door lights are missing . my cabinet is a Joust vs.uni system with a robocop data east pcb installed instead of the origional
any links would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance - matt
IMHO: the green painters tape falls in between the blue and white tape and would be better.
Is this going to be a Wild Gunman?
+Ghia356 NEGATIVE
just wondering can 2 daughter cards exist on one board?

Everytime I turn my cab on, I hear a small thump coming from the monitor. Any ideas what this could be?
does it work? flyback arc?
+John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech It works ok. It just makes a loud deep popping noise when i turn on the machine. Thanks for the Reply!
The Unisystem Has Excitebike.
IMHO the green painters tape falls in between the blue and white tape and would be better.
+AnalogX64 Good to know!
Guess its Vs Gradius for steve ;)
The game is a Vs. Exitebike.
left to right, nice even streaks with the spraypaint. just throwing it around all random gives an ugly uneven finish.
Where’s the reveal video? Feel left hanging.
Robert Harker it's the will wright lost game video.
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech thanks john.
wow 70° celsius... that is really hot O_O =P
+MetalTiger88 He meant 70 Degrees Fahrenheit, he only said how cold it was outside in celsius.
yeah i know, i was just trolling a little bit =D
This video is dead nuts on
First. ;) Uploaded two minutes ago, woo. I guess this is the Sunday video then for yesterday hmm?
Fail on the trimmer. Watch your old pal Tighe's video to lean how to do it right.
Next vid. :) I already fixed it.
"TO BE CONTINUED..." I never heard of that game before. Sounds lame.....
;)
