There’s no back, only forwards. The nostalgic music hit me though, and I wish I could revisit those simpler times, before I knew bad people existed and I would dream about being the best. I wish it were real, more than any other series…. I grew up with Pokémon and I will cherish it for as long as I live ❤

When I was 7 I vividly remember sitting in the back of my mom's mini van playing this game on a chilly October day on my way to the cider mill to see the rest of my family. I remember this tune playing in the background as I looked out the window, seeing the apple orchards as we pulled up on the gravel parking area. Meeting up with my cousin who also had his Pokemon Silver on him. We battled together as we had fresh donuts and apple cider.
I really miss when times were simple and I didn't have a care in the world.

I'm 28 now. I remember coming onto this video when I was about 18 and going through the struggles of coming of age, remembering being eight years old and playing Pokemon. I wasn't ready to accept that it was part of a bygone era of my childhood. Ten years passed then, ten years have passed again. That struggle seems so far away now, and adulthood doesn't hurt like it did when I was going through those growing pains.
Never forget that feeling of being a child and discovering things for the first time. There's so much more to life you have yet to discover.

This is actually so deep ngl. When you're young all you wanna do is grow up because you think it'll be better and you honestly don't know you're living in the moment until it has passed. The nostalgia of playing pokemon games without a care in the world, trying to finish the game past your bedtime in the dark of your room, trading and battling with friends... those were the days. It's hard to imagine that pokemon was such an integral part of my childhood until now. As you grow older, you're faced with so many more responsibilities all you wanna do is go back. If you're a kid and you're reading this comment, please live in the moment and cherish every experience, and have as much fun as you can. Your childhood only lasts so long.

I was only 8, living through the end of Pokemania. I would play Gold while my parents drove an hour to IKEA or when I had to come with my mom to her office in Huntington Beach. I would play the game as normal, but I'd always come here for the bug contest and to just walk around and listen to this song. Just finding a calm peace in a hyperactive childhood.
I was only 17, trying to relive a time where I could feel happiness while in a raging war against depression, a fight that would ultimately lead me to try and take my own life in my high school bathroom. My life wasn't horrible, but I was in an abusive relationship, my grades kept slipping, and I felt like I was drowning in emotions I couldn't understand, as I struggle to grasp the mental conditions that forced their way up as I grew. The song wasn't the same, but the comfort was still there. And I would retreat to the original Gold just to hear the song that made me feel peace as a little kid.
I am now 28. I am nowhere near where I hoped I'd be as an adult, but I still have things I never thought I'd have when I was 17. A wife, a condo I just bought, and my first kid on his way. Even at 28 I'm still terrified of what life will be like, and how much more I'll have to grow as an adult to provide for my family. But I hear this song, and 20 years later, the peace still remains. I can fall into this song and for a few minutes, I'm a kid again in the back seat, going to IKEA. Even if it isn't real.

I find this music... fitting to listen to, now that Satoru Iwata has passed... Mr. Iwata personally compressed the code Gold/Silver to fit Kanto into the game. He also ported the battle system of Pokemon Stadium to the N64 without any reference materials.

I'm not much of a Pokemon fan myself but I've deep appreciation for Iwata for working with Sakurai when they were developing Smash.
For Smash 64, with the initial tech demo for Smash that showcased Mario, DK, Samus and Fox, it was said that Iwata was the one who secretly handed over the character models to Sakurai. It became one of the best gambles to ever pay off.
When Melee was set to launch for the 2001 holiday season, Melee hit a period of development hell six weeks before said launch and was going to be delayed into 2002. Iwata, being the clutch master and genius that he is, gathered a group of developers from Nintendo and helped bring Melee back on track for its original release date. And the rest is history.

Iwata has a heart for respectful to Nintendo company unlike other Nintendo employees, but I don’t know about Sakurai I heard he good person just trying help also similar like Iwata. I mean Sakurai need to rest a lot due to fans forcing him make more characters in Smash Ultimate. Iwata and Sakurai actually really good friends to each others.

I played it 20 years ago and everything was different back then. I mean everything was different. The 90s and 2000s were awesome for kids growing up. I really feel like we had the best childhoods. The amount of hours playing this game and battling/trading with friends was really the fun part. And sometimes just playing alone was awesome enough. There wasn’t near as many games as we have now these days but the ones that were good still hold up these days. Pokémon is one of them, especially the first 3 gens. I lost Ruby as a kid and never got to experience the rest of the Pokémon series. I never got a new Ruby and it was literally the most soul crushing thing. All my friends moved on and I still had Pokémon Silver and Gold.

I mean Nintendo DS can make the music closer to like this music just with high quality with adding emotion like this, not using some remixes like crazy to ruined the original I am just saying. Yeah I heard there GB sound after you get 16 badges, but it not like exactly like the original chiptune instead it using MIDI it just using 8 bits it just little like original. If the remake released on GBA they can make music 100% like original because it compatible to GB and GBC. Nintendo DS only compatible to GBA.

I'm seven years late, but I agree. I think the HG/SS version is actually worse than the original here; It has a nice new intro, but I don't like how 90% of the instruments became a piano, removing the unique "PokéFlute lead" and how they ironically removed the "piano-like notes" that play at 0:59!
I think they should've kept this particular song closer to the original, only using pianos for the background notes; That's what I imagine those notes would be if played using samples.

When I hear it now I have the sensation that I was really in that world some time, in person. A world without bad things, pure and happy. It's like a book that you really enjoy and you feel sad when it's over. Same thing. It's a feeling like i've been in that place, I had good times but it's over... move on to new priorities, new "adventures". Sad when we realize, everything is gone. We can download roms and emulators, but it's not the same, we have no time now, we have bills to pay, end everything else, we can't go anymore to that world, if u know what I mean, THAT is sad...

I battled sudowoodo shortly after this and turned my game off, losing all of my progress. as soon as i turned it back on i wanted to get back to this area for the music alone. 4 year old me was overcome with a sense of ease when listening to this. this is by far my favorite music track from any pokemon game not only because of how good the music is, but because of the nostalgia it brings. here i am at 22 listening to this again, and remembering that car trip like it was yesterday. as we grow older we tend to forget things from our youth, our lives become more mundane, predictable and we lose the wonder and curiosity we had as kids. i'm not in the best of health nowadays but this song never fails to bring me back to that car trip where my biggest issue in life was trying to get back to the national park to hear this song. hang on to your childhood people, you'll never have another :/

I am passing through a stressful part of my life, specially at work. I really miss the good old days when I was a kid and my only worry was school, I was happy and I didn't know it...
But even if I had the chance, I wouldn't go back to the past. I'm glad that my childhood happened. And that's the magic behind childhood, not living it, but remembering.
Nostalgia is such a deep feeling.

This is literally one of my all-time favorite themes to ever of come out of a Pokemon game. I used to sit and just run the game with my player standing in the National Park just so I could hear it. The hours spent, the adventures had, and memories made into my old copy of Pokemon Crystal will probably never be replicated by another Pokemon game, or any other game for that matter. People always criticize Pokemon games for being repetitive and boring, or a child's game, but not everyone can have the same great experience or say their experience was as memorable or awesome as mine.

I’m far from the only one who has precious memories playing Pokémon Gold and Silver. It’s a game that I still love today. As an adult, however, it’s a game I always play faster and with more imposed challenges. It’s a game I know inside and out. I miss the days when it was mysterious, when I’d boot it up just to hang out in the world. When day becoming night was magical. When the unknown was around every corner and every schoolyard rumor could have been true.

This is, was, and always will be one of the best video game tracks ever. How does it feel so perfectly somber, sad, and happy? I know it's not just nostalgia. I always felt this way about this song. I used to load up my game and go stand in the national park just to listen to this jam. *Praise the person who wrote this score.*

I love this song. Pokemon Gold/Silver were the best of the series, in my opinion, and the last of the games that I really took seriously. I remember those days, getting up on Saturday, eating a bowl of cereal, watching the latest episode of the Pokemon anime on Kids WB, then getting on my bike to go to a friend's house to play Gen 1 and Gen 2 on Gameboy Color.
If I could do it all over again, I would tell myself to cherish these moments, but don't spend so much time gaming.

I lost my copy of Ruby when I was a kid and I never got into any games after that, we weren’t rich and I just had the original gen 1 and gen 2 games. It was pretty soul crushing losing that Ruby game but I still had Silver and Gold. My cousin had crystal and I went to his house to play it and he had all the legendary dogs. It was super cool because my cousins also traded with each other and they were the same age. So it was like a whole new level of experience playing these games with like 3 other people in the room. I know I keep coming back here to read comments and listen to the music but man I can’t get over how amazing it is!!!

I remember when I got Pokemon Gold on my Gameboy Color when I was but a child. It was the first pokemon game I ever played and the first game that gave me the feeling of wonder and exploration that so many of the following Pokemon games also did.
But it all started here. With the bug catching contest. With me trying to figure out how I got past the Sudowoodo blocking the way. Foiling Team Rocket's plans in both Mahogany Town and Goldenrod City. Riding the Magnet Train. Fishing on the pier next to the cruise ship. The spark of joy whenever my pokemon learnt a new move that I never had heard about before.
All these memories and many more still accompany me to this day. Even if I've become an adult, my childhood self lives on in my heart. This song brings back many fond memories about this game, and in many ways encapsulate my sense of self and what at the time was my life's context.
This is what pokemon is all about. A personal journey not only in the game, but within as well. To experience a journey that you will cherish forever.
Hearing this music again for the first time in many years reminded me of this fact, and the journey I had with this game.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

one single good moment in my childhood, one single good month in the shitstorm. and this song always makes me nostalgic for it.
from all of my childhood, ages 1 to 14 there is only 1 place i wouldn't feel grief coming back to and it's that borrowed house in a tiny town near the one i was raised in, those sunny days with my mom, laying in the floor while watching pokemon videos and playing mystery dungeon on a gba emulator, that time we went on a walk on the dirt roads, the park in front of the house. when i hear this song i remember what nostalgia is, this common thing for most people that i only experience when listening to this 1 song. so bittersweet.

Almost every single year the night before the first day of school i come back to this video to just listen and think. I’ll be starting grade 12 tomorrow and it’ll be when I really have to give it everything I’ve got. This school year is the final test for me in a sense, and i’m not sure if i’ll get another chance to listen to this song in a situation like this. It’s crazy to experience how quickly time passes. I remember when I was a kid in kindergarten at just 5 years old I would see kids that are my age now and it seemed like a world that I would never reach, regardless of how bad i wanted to grow up. They seemed like adults but I’m sure many of them thought the same way I do now. Now i’m here, and i’m not quite sure what to think, I want to be sad because I will never have those moments and innocence back, but I feel a sense of responsibility knowing that exact thing. I know I need to accept that it will never happen again. I feel so fondly about those times, when there was a boy who couldn’t read or write but took his brother and sisters dusty old game boy and sunk hours into a charming old game that none of his friends knew about. Mindlessly wandering and immersing himself within the unknown whether it be in the real world or virtual. Always accompanied by music masterfully crafted to join ones adventure in such a way that it would be remembered by the individual for years to come. Always bringing them back to the best times when everything was so vibrant and it was just them, their thoughts, and an undiscovered world. Sometimes I wish i could just go back in time just once, or even stop time just to think. I’m not quite sure what I would think about but it would give me some solace knowing i could stop and relive those moments in my head whenever i wanted to. In the end the sun doesn’t stop for anybody, no matter the individual or their situation. We have to accept this and move on, take advantage of it and persevere. That child in our head is still there, dreaming and discovering. It is our duty to make their dreams come true because they were not able to. We grow up so we can achieve those dreams for them.
Whenever you are feeling disheartened, remember that child that lives in your heart. You need to make them smile.
I will always remember Pokémon silver for its incredible adventure as well as its deeply touching and emotional music and will always cherish it deeply within my heart. Thank you Nintendo and Game Freak for these memories and everything that comes along with them. I wouldn’t give it away for anything because this is me. I will win, for that boy, the people in his and my life, and the memories and dreams he holds within him.
