This video is one of the best examples of Schumacher at his prime. Not in the best car but going all out and achieving pole position. Even the color commentator John Watson is flabbergasted.

1:01 Amazing sound of the V 3.000cc. Schumacher golden period.

Nowadays the middle sector is way further than it was before (after the piscine chicane), but Max today reminded me of this astonishing lap delivered by the GOAT himself Michael Schumacher. Verstappen gained 3 tenths in 3 corners, Schumi gained 7 tenths in 7 corners. Two of the best performances in terms of driving skills.

Michael with a dump truck, Max with a rocket...that's the difference😮

The 2017 cars are faster by 8 seconds, but this old 1996 video makes the cars back then 'feel' faster. Compare it with the 2017 broadcast and notice how much the position of the cameras have changed. The positioning here gives a better sense of speed. The new positioning of the cameras now don't quite have the same effect, so the cars looked slower, despite going much faster. But I think the best camera angles were in the 2000-2002 era, if you watch those replays. I wish race organizers in Monaco look at where the cameras were placed in 2001 and copy them for 2018.

leadlefthand don't forget that the second Piscine chicane is much faster now than it was in 1996, Rascasse is also shorter now, so I think there's about 2 seconds just by the track

Modern cars also look waaay slower because they are almost, if not, twice as big. They started getting bigger around 2009-2010 and then again in 2017. Modern cars look like buses compared to the older ones. Just look at comparison images of the different generations of cars. These days they look disgusting.

@@Yoshiman2024 98-2001 the cars looked super sleek, and sounded like a fighter jet!!
The Ferrari and the mclaren look space age compared to today

he was 2 tenths down at the 2nd sector, so he found 7 tenths in the final sector. absolutely outrageous. you know it's special when a former driver gets excited like that!

È impressionante come ha inserito la monoposto alla Rascasse e come ha percorso rapidamente quella chicane.
L’espressione di Todt è la ciliegina sulla torta.

Back in the day, I thought the F310 was ugly. But over time, I've learnt to appreciate the car. Especially when you consider the cars that emerged from 2010 onwards. Especially the first cars of the turbo era from 2014 onwards. The 310 is also the start of something big. The first 3 of 72 victories for Michael in red.

Verstappen is marvelous. Red Bull is not at same level of Mercedes, McLaren and Ferrari.
Looking Checo Perez grand prixs and you can see the difference that Max gives.
