They missed here that after 10 laps after Schumacher overtook Villeneuve he had a lead of 40 seconds. Made an extra pitstop over the others and 5 laps after he already lead again 40 seconds over second place. Briliant briliant drive of the master!

Pay attention kids, this is what a rain Master looks like.
First formula 1 race i have ever saw on tv and the impression that Schumacher gave of this event was mindblowing. Cars were flying left and right off the track and the guy in red ferrari was doing some riducule lap times and overtakes other drivers like it was nothing. I thougt to myself how this is even possible? Been a fan of Schumacher ever since - for me he is the greatest driver ever. The spanish gp of 1996 was his highlight - i think Schumacher reached the heights that day that no other driver of today could get even close to. Keep fighting Champ!
Also remember this race was literally just after Monaco, where Schumacher crashed in the wet on lap 1.

Tbf, He was slipping and sliding so much at Monaco that year. That car looked undriveable.
Imagine some people compare this Legend to Hamilton Lol
Schumacher went from a team he won 2 titles in a row with, to a team that hadn't won in the sport for over 2 decades. He helped to build the foundations of that team over the next 3 years and then went on to dominate with that team for the next 5 years. He helped and was a crucial part in building their success.
He also came out of retirement and helped developed Mercedes into what they are now before Hamilton took the seat He was in. Brawn himself said Schumacher had an immense and crucial part to play in developing the car and team into what it was to dominate the sport with Hamilton at the wheel.
Schumacher has and always will be the greatest F1 driver the sport has seen, alot don't like him, but anyone with common knowledge of F1 won't dispute that. Hamilton is a great, that can't be disputed. But he is not the greatest of all time.
Oh to answer about others with poor equipment, Schumacher also has the most wins in a non championship winning car even though he has less wins than Hamilton, further proof Hamilton is only great with the greatest car against the other greats records.
Spot on my friend 👏. Hamilton must be the most overrated driver in history. Just look at all the crashes he's been involved in in the past two seasons alone...

Arguably Schumi's coolest win ever, seeing him fly with a toilet in the wet is something I've never seen anyone else do, before or since. Immense.
Belgium 97 was 10 seconds a lap faster than anyone. 60 second lead after 10 laps.

Risk adversion in modern f1 is ridiculous.
Wet races should be part of racing. And by the way, in rainy conditions there have never been casualites in the history of f1. Although there is a higher risk of spinning and crashing when it is wet, the speed is much lower than normal too
@@tbillington Hamilton's normally one of the keenest to race in the rain, even when he's leading behind the safety car, where only he's not being disadvantaged by the SC staying out longer.

@@playerone3218 Julies Bianchi died because of a tractor in the run off area of a corner. And, in all respects, also because he didn't slow down enough.
That said, f1 played with fire for decades, with tractors and marshals entering the track in dangerous situation. Nowadays it's no longer like this.

As someone who watched the livestream, I can confirm there were quite a lot of highlights between Lap 12 and Lap 65.
It's very nice to watch highlights with Walker's voice. Pretty memorable

Michael Schumacher with that not so good 96 Ferrari schooled everyone that race. He was incredible and made the rest of the pack look ordinary. Some drivers that have had these incredible wet weather performances where they are miles ahead.
Senna in Donington , Schumacher in Spain, Hamilton in Britan, Max in Brazil I'm sure there's more. But these are some of the best-wet weather performances in F1 history. Miss you Schumi.

The biggest highlight of this race was Schumacher lapping 4 seconds per lap faster than everyone else, and that's hard to see without numbers on hand.
Schumacher even lapped the best British driver by 45 laps.
I am sure in if this same weather condition is repeated anywhere, the current gen drivers will be waging war to stop the race. This race didn't have a single safety car and the drivers went off just said they weren't capable to negotiate the conditions than putting the blame on tyres, setup, etc

considering the conditions and the quality of that Ferrari this is one of the greatest drives in F1 history.

I'm just talking about the drivers that are still on the grid nowdays, because of the comment that said that nowdays the race won't even start 'cause the drivers would not be able to push their cars as much as Schumacher did in wet conditions.

I remember hearing how memorable this race was because it's Schumacher's first win for Ferrari, so it's such a sight to actually watch this race, just one year before I was born!
