    Newport great to visit
    It’s horrible to live there full time if you want to thrive not just survive (unless you retired and wealthy )
    High rental/ housing prices with minimum hourly wages typical
    Tons of hits snd runs. Most car repair shops are not accredited by insurance companies in this town
    Weather is mostly rain, wind, or combination of the two

    I'd guess one reason behind all the property crime in coastal cities is the amount of vacation rental properties. It's probably not uncommon to get some rowdy renters who cause damage, and also it would be pretty easy for locals to know which houses are rentals and "safe" to break into when they're unoccupied.

      Perhaps there is some of that. You also hear about some areas having problems with meth which tends to result in theft.

    Property crime here is high and 85 percent of that is meth related. That spike you see is due to Portland bussing all their problem homeless to the coast. I saw it with my own eyes. Three loaded busses with homeless landed in Astoria. The homeless population here tripled that day and the police can't do anything about it. It's sad. Portland offered homeless 300 bucks and a one way ticket to the coast.

      OMG that is too funny and I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing!!!!! Point is, the title of this RUclips is Click Bait and the line this dude spits out just before hitting that 7:27 time mark says it all "...anyone looking to buy or sell a home, we'd be happy to work with you...." LOL. Keep on movin' folks, there's no bad boogey-man towns on the Oregon coast.

    I've lived in Newport twice (4 years total) & Astoria for 3 years while I was in the U.S. Coast Guard. Now I'm retired and have been traveling the coast every year for the past 10 years. I've always felt safe there. The higher crime rates are driven by low employment/poverty level wages. I think the worst thing that happened to me was a stereo was stolen from my car in Newport. While in Lincoln City a few years ago I called the police and gave a vehicle description/plate number of a "Santa Clause" that was cruising the neighborhood I was walking my dog in. Saw him drive by 3 times, there are a LOT of vacation/rental homes in that area. We spent the winter of 20/21 in Lincoln City due to covid. There was a story going around of a drive by shooting but I could never confirm it. Over all I really like it there and we are thinking of moving back there in the next few years, probably south of Coos Bay.

      High. Great not-too small town set along a beautiful rugged section of the Oregon coast at the mouth of the Chetco River with a great climate. Very unique.

    Any town with a prison, like Lincoln City and Crescent City, usually has a lot of family moving there to be close to their incarcerated family member and some of that brings additional crime with it.

    Yeah, it's not what city you live in, but where you live. We've lived in Lincoln City for 15+ years and no issues. That said, there are neighborhoods we wouldn't choose to live in Lincoln City. But that is the same for almost every middle size to larger city. Bigger cities will start to have more issues, but they will also have more resources and things like better hospitals, etc. We love living here. Thanx for your fair view of the discussion.

    I think you mis-spoke when you said that there were places where you used to go to lunch in Portland where you feel more comfortable than anywhere on the coast. I suspect you meant the opposite. BTW: How about Depoe Bay?

    • @LivingOnTheOregonCoast
      @LivingOnTheOregonCoast  2 года назад

      Yes that's probably right. There's lots of places in Portland that you would feel more uncomfortable than the most unsafe place on the coast.
