I lived in Astoria for a year and I absolutely loved it. The camping, the bike ride, visiting Long Beach, WA, and the many friendly residents that invited me into their home and livelihood. Because of the military, I had to leave beautiful Astoria. I will have to pay a visit someday.

I am so grateful everyday that I live here. But the rain and gloom is a little too much for me and I do take my D3. I just think it is a near perfect town. Not boring at all. The beaches and forests are divine.

Right now we're building a camper and getting everything ready to go and that's a good home until we get home and skies the limit right 👍,, thanks either way take care

I've been doing some research on coastal towns to make my first move to, and I've been sleeping on Astoria. When I finally considered it and started looking more into it, it just clicked with me. The feel is something I've been looking for. Nothing huge like a city which brings me anxiety, and not too small that is boring like where I'm living right now. The only drawback for me is finance since I'm in Arkansas and homes are more affordable here, and it would be my first move out of parent's home. But I'm slowly building that budget cushion and with careful research, I'm pretty sure I can make the move successfully. Just came across the channel and it has been a big help in getting a first look at these towns. Thank you!

430,000 for a house on the coast? LOL. Where I am it's more like 1.5 million for a CONDO on the coast. 430,000 is a bargain.

Looking to get away from massive homeless encampments, insane crime rates, high cost of living, radical politics.. Hopefully Astoria can be an antidote to that?

I lived there for a few months back in the nineties, I remember there being a lot of very violent kids there who loved to fight, I mean they would want to beat you up for no reason at all, just because you asked the teacher a lot of questions in class because you cared about your grade, well it was mostly poor back then, other than summertime tourists, there really wasn't any financial hope back then, hopefully it's changed now, that was a very long time ago.

I visited in the winter and it was the most depressing, isolated, suffocating, eerie feeling I've ever had. I don't think it was just the cold, rainy gray weather which I'm used to. I'm not a fan coastal places, there is something that I dislike very strongly. And for the tourist, it's overrpriced, the food is average and service is a little snotty.

@@seedy6538 in the PNW, people can come off as cold unless you speak to them yourself. We tend to leave others alone and let them approach us! I’ve noticed this in tourism here, especially the coast where it’s gloomy. I live in Astoria and hate it. Everything is costly and traffic is hell all summer. If you have to drive more than 10 miles everyday, stay away. There are not too many GOOD employment opportunities and bums/drugs all over. It was better in the 90's. The only thing I like are the nature trails and ocean but I've seen it all so much that it doesn't thrill me much anymore. If you're a "foodie" then I would recommend it. If you want to make and KEEP your money, then look elsewhere. This is not a place for young people trying to build their future. It's a giant retirement village.
