Thanks for the comments about home maintenance. I was looking at condo in my budget online and found a nice one but the COA fees were $1,400 per month without a lot of amenities. Ouch, but it makes sense now.

Cost of living out weighs the average pay. Unless you traveling for work you are not making more than $25 n hr. There is no Fred Meyer or bigger stores. New apartments and trailers are available so that will help with rental costs. Having a Hospital in town is a plus no matter what people think.

Looking forward to trying Tidal Raves. I was disappointed to find that most fish here in restaurants are deep fried. There is also not many choices of different types of fresh fish here. I thought that was strange in a coastal tourist community.

Great views from rented condos at The Village at North Pointe. I stayed at one called Sea View. The living room and dining room were 60 feet from the ocean. Great views of the waves hitting the rocky cliff. Walking distance to Tidal Raves. The rental companies are Keystone Vacation Rentals, Blue Pacific, and Ocean Beach Vacations. The cocktail shrimp are local. I think the ling cod is the best fish locally.

The real trick to living at the coast is living at Coquille. Just far enough from 101 to be out of the fog, but close enough to the coast for the ocean in minutes. Beware of Myrtle Point as it's at the head of the valley and gets the wind.

if one can give up the requirement of insisting on oceanfront or ocean view homes, you can do much better heading inland a bit. i moved from so. cal. to brookings 10 years ago. no, i didn’t bring a californian attitude… i was wishing to escape from california attitudes. oceanfront or ocean view wasn’t in my budget. i headed up the chetco river a couple of miles and found a wonderful nearly 2 acre property in the hills. do i have an ocean view? nope, but i have my own tranquil mini forest. can i walk to the beach? no, but the river is a 4 minute drive away and the beach is 10 minutes away. i love having some breathing room and not being in my neighbor’s pocket. so, if you can adjust your priorities, you can get some amazing properties and still have the feeling of oregon coastal living.

Not only do we not agree with you about how expensive it is to live on the oregin coast (it is expensive for people trying to make a living here) I would like to say to all new comers, register your freakin' Vehicle like the rest of us do. Nothing pisses me off more than watching our housing being purchased by out if staters and then watch them drive around for years with out an oregon registered vehicle..35 years on the coast and im sick of it. Wasnt always like that. And lets remind people that we may not have sales tax but our paychecks reflect plenty of taxes. Si, dont say to us how "lucky" we are until you bring home your first paycheck.

regarding brookings. i moved here 10 years ago from l.a. county and it was definitely a good decision. sutter hospital in crescent city does not have a great reputation. not sure about gold beach’s hospital since it is fairly new…. the old hospital did not have a great reputation. basically you have to go to either medford or grants pass. medford is definitely NOT a 2 hour drive! i don’t know why the uploader said that. it’s nearly 3. grants pass is just over 2 hours away and they have decent medical facilities. however, the road from brookings into the inland valley is slow, winding and is subject to closure if there is snow or ice. also the wildfires last year crippled the road with repair closures. beware if that is a concern. we do have some good, local general practice doctors and dentists here but anything more serious will require a trip inland. it is somewhat reassuring to know that there are life flights available from brookings to medford in case of an emergency. you can buy insurance for this and the rates are affordable.

Good help is hard to find. Even if they call you back, they may not show up. They also charge both arms and one leg. It's good to learn some DIY and gardening skills if you live here. Safeway prices are outrageous. It's Windy most days, start out c a lm but expect it to become windy. Dont expect weed-free yard, not happening. Weeds are a staple here. If you build, make sure it's a strong fence: high winds will destroy it. If there's deer and elk, Unless you have a fence, elk and deer will enter, invited or not. They will eat most plants that are labeled deer-resistant. Elk will make a mess and kick your mulch into piles. They also leave 💩 everywhere. Avoid any metal except stainless steel. It will rust in short time. Expect a lot of tourists in summer. If you build a home on the coast, I recommend you get a local builder to make sure it's built for the area. The winter storms are no joke. In December 2008, we had storm that lasted three days straight with over 100 mph wind gusts. I don't recall what sustained winds were. We lost power for 6 days. Every tree in my community went down. One neighbor lost half the roof on their house. That was an unusual year. Winds gusts are normally 60 to 75 up yo 80 mph, depending on the area.

I hope you bring up the fact that All these towns are in tsunami zones if you're on the west side, and overdue for a 9.0 earthquake. Oregon Coast is not for everyone. Winters are long, gloomy, wet, cold. Some people move here and realize they can't deal with it. Astoria is nice if you get away from the town itself. That's just my opinion. Seaside is a dumpster.

I've lived on the coast for 20 years and crime and homeless population definitely went up after they legalized drugs. Blame the voters who voted for this. Rust and corrosion is a major problem. Stick with stainless steel if possible.

No jobs, high drug use in Coosbay. Astoria lovez Heroin and meth. If you want calm, beautiful nature. Any where between Florence and Newport is the up and coming area. But still underdeveloped. This is blowing smoke trying to sell you into three worst spots.. every part of the coast is nice to visit, each place for different reasons. Living there is a different story. Yachats is just beginning to buzz
