Sometimes just going into those back waters and just enjoying the birds, the peace and quiet, just nature is amazing. Just appreciating the little things we have in life. Being able to catch some fish is an added benefit. Great video!
You needed Your Mother to come fishing this trip on the backwaters. She is so helpful & handy with the net. I enjoy seeing you two spending time making memories together. I have heard gar is good eating if fixed correctly. GOD BLESS from West Central Indiana Farmland ✝️🇺🇸😊🚜
Steve you are awesome I must thank you for sharing you trips with us. I’m stuck in a wheelchair for the last 4 months and I feel like I’m fishing with you. 😜keep on slaying them.
Always a great video on the way when we see that BAMASaltwater notification pop up!! Cool Gar catches!! Caught plenty of those in the rivers back home in Tennessee
We've got a good gar population in our lake. Considering how "weird" they are, they're remarkably pretty fish with great color and spots toward the tail. I've also heard that if you're willing to put the work in to clean them, they actually are a really great tasting fish.
YOU ARE JUST SIMPLY THE NEXT FAMOUS ALABAMA SPORTSFISHERMAN, SALT,BRACKISH OR FRESH. I BELIEVE YOU COULD CATCH FISH OUT OF A KUDZU PATCH, DUDE! KEEP ON BRINGIN' HOME THE BACON! ENJOYYOUR VLOGS TONS AND LOTS!!!
Hey , I just wanted to say thank you for the great content you show, of all the people I watch you are the most consistent at catching and releasing fish, be safe. , stay out of the john boat, lol
Accidentally catching gar is always fun. The initial fight then literally walking them to retrieve the bet or pliers in my case. I, too, fish belton lake but it's really pressured these days.
Old timers used to catch gar here with hookless baits.... just frayed nylon on a jig head. The alligator gsr get huge and are a bit scaty if you hang one in a small boat 🤣
I keep getting unsubscribed to you and I know you mentioned other people have too. I love your content and you are a good dude so I really hope you can figure out why RUclips keeps doing this to us. God Bless man and keep it up! Also I’d love to see more Jon boat videos. I know last time didn’t go so well but I believe you’ll get the hang of it!!!
Speaking of alligator gars, many years ago I was fishing in Prien Lake which is in southwest Louisiana. I was at the end of a long wharf and using an offshore rig because that’s all that was there. On a cut piece of fish I caught an alligator gar. I managed to get it out of the water and it was longer than my height of 5’4”. The tail was still deep in the water when it jerked and got off the hook. Fun memory.
years ago, my dad and i put in at hubbards landing on tensaw and ended up in a slew behind an abandoned house boat and it looked like someone threw hundreds of straight black sticks about the size of no.2 pencils in the water. Then we saw 2 big spotted gar and 3-4ft each when we realized all the sticks were baby gar. we pulled up the trolling motor and paddled back out so we didnt accidentally hurt any of them.
Stephen love the videos. And a good laugh every now and again like the new flat bottom boat where it tossed you. I was actually at a power pole when you came out of the landing beside the tole bridge last week with the small boat and when I recognized it was you it was to late to try and stop you. Was actually watching if you had made another video in the new boat. Would love to stop and talk one day when I’m down that way again if I see you.
If you're interested in fishing for longnose gar, a great and easy way to catch em is with a rope lure. It's exactly as it sounds like, their little teeth get tangled up in the frayed rope and they can't get away. Fun to sight fish for em
I have a love-hate relationship with your channel right now because I want to get out on the water and fish so bad and we all know how bad that itch gets. Love your content, keep it coming man and tight lines 🎣
My first gar I hooked scared me for sure here in Texas a couple of years ago because I’ve always heard of them but had never caught one Ima have to try the net trick next time for sure
Making a video on alligator gar in the mobile tensaw delta would be cool not a lot of people here target them so if you put in the effort you might catch the state record
Good morningn from Hamburg/Germany :) Ty 4 your video! Btw i love the smaler Daiwas. I am using a Ninja LT to fish at the Baltic Sea and its a great lightwight.
Awesome man! We have some gar up in Ontario but I've never thought of trying to catch one. Just paddle by in my fishing kayak and watch them eye me up.
I have been using ultralight for specks and reds for the last 3 years. It; is the ultimate in fun. I have 2 set ups. One is with 6 lb mono and the other is with 10 lb braid and 10 lb mono leader I use it when we get into the bigger fish especially reds. Great show
HEY! You gotta do a catch n cook on gar sometime. They are superb table that size or less they literally have the texture of lobster. You have to use metal shears to get through the shell of skin and their eggs are super poisonous but that top loin is amazing. It has a nickname of poor man’s lobster. 🙏 Try this!!!
Also a “rope lure” is by far the best way to catch gar there are several videos on how to make them or I can make a video and show you. Or let me know and I’ll be there in 6hrs with a bag full of them. 😂
I need to for sure!! Maybe this week!! And yes! My neighbor told me about taking a mop string ! I just wanted to try it with the ned rig but I'll have to try that one time!!! Thanks man! Feel free to share a good recipe for that top loin!
Look up any good recipe for lobster fettuccine and replace lobster with gar and you got it. There is also a somewhat “traditional” recipe called “gar balls” you can look up that is a Cajun thing. As for the rope lures you want to get the pure white rope from your hardware store that has the weave on the outside and a core of some other material on the inside and basically unweave the outside all the way to about a 1/2” head and then trim the core off, heat up a needle and stick it through the head to make a hole for your line to pass through and just rig it hookless. Their gnarly teethe get tangle in it. Make the bait about 4”-6” long and cast it right on their nose it’s about a 98% success rate with this. Use about a 20lb leader that you run through the head and connect it to light line probly braid for easier casting. Tight lines brother! And for real I can show you anything you need for this. I fish for everything that swims mostly fresh but I LOVE the salt when I can.
@@JasonBeatenbo Definitely , Cajun Gar Balls were my first choice but I like the fettuccini , I'll have to try that next time and for sure !! Thanks man

That's it!!! 1000% truth. It's a peaceful, connect to nature getaway that's always a delight to enjoy. Thank you!

I love your channels dude you inspire me so much keep it up 👍🏼
I love it when you hit the creeks in the winter. Gives us something different to watch. Thanks and keep 'em coming.
Super cool catches. Gar are hard to get fired up around me. Wouldn’t mind seeing a catch n cook on a gar. Great video as always
By the way, there are alligator gar in the mobile bay. Big ones too 🐊
Fun video as always Stephen! Thanks for sharing with us.
Heck yeah! I enjoy the peaceful creek fishing, especially with the different species involved. 👍
Fishing for dinosaurs in the creek. Gar are such cool giants -real living fossils. ❤️
What a fun video, I love how you laugh like a little kid with each catch!! Pure joy..
If you see this comment, subscribe to this man's channel. He makes great content and deserves more.
Ultralight fishing is tons of fun, especially when a big one bites; you can get an Amber-Jack level fight without leaving the bay!
Love the back waters and enjoying the quiet, hearing the ospreys is awesome too! Never caught a gar on a swim bait like that. Looks fun!
Absolutely enjoyed your adventure today, thank you.

a piece of nylon rope frayed no hook about 3 inches long works great for gar
You should do bass fishing again

Almost time for another backwater bass fishing trip

Nice brother. What is the draft on your bay boat.... Or is it a deep creek? Impressive. 🐟🐟🐟

Great Vid bro. You can’t beat that back country tranquility👍🏻. And hell yes, those gar have a nasty funk to them. 🇺🇸👍🏻
Man if you’ve never eat gar you’re missing out. All white meat. I’d say try it out. Tight lines boss

That snapping turtle wasn't that big I catch them 160# but regardless they are fun to catch
My son absolutely loves catching gar while we are catfishing here in Indiana. His biggest was very close to being 6’ long.

Great to see different species, especially gars. Nice video, too but the fisheye lens made me a bit seasick🌊🎣
Anything you can catch on light tackle is fun and those spotted gar are fun to catch in those quite backwater creeks.
You darn right. They like to stare at your bait like "what you think i am stupid?"
Gar are one of the hardest to catch on artificial. In Kentucky they’d patrol the creek in packs
Making a video on alligator gar in the mobile tensaw delta would be cool not a lot of people here target them so if you put in the effort you might catch the state record
Should've taken your flat boat back there... 🤓😉
Having never caught a gar, it looks like they fight a little like a northern pike .
Awesome video, I love fishing and would like to meet you sometime.
I really like your new hat and shirt...the gray hat is awesome ❤
So many fish you take good actions. I lịe it.👍
Light tackle is an exciting way of fishing for sure.
Get even further in those creeks w the new jon boat. Another great video
Video #3 asking for a remora catch and cook!

Stephen try taking a file to the hooks. lol. Nice catch.

it amazes me that some fish can live in freshwater or saltwater
Wow great my friend, all Strike are being released again 👍👍 14:09

Ultra light is the best fishing!!
Win is pier going to open what month
is that a brackish water creek.
Are you in Ingram Bayou?
Great video! When are you going to do a catch and cook with Gar?
You should change up a bit and take a trip to Texas and fish the Trinity River for huge Alligator Gar
We got them in the mobile tensaw river delta here in Alabama people just don’t target them
In the Mobile delta fishermen do not target alligator gar, alligator gar Target fishermen.
I have several TFO rods, they’re awesome!
I would love to come fishing with you sometime ?
Great video, Steven!
