I'm actually close to crying after listening to this speech because I identify so much with all her experiences. I desperately need more asexual representation in the media. I've read a few books with ace characters, but they aren't very popular unfortunately.
This is an amazing speech. I myself have been questioning if I am on the ace spectrum. No matter who I am, I will do my best to support and acknowledge asexuals.
6:02 “For me, it’s like discussing the cardiovascular system. It’s interesting, kinda gross, and I get why it happens.” That is exactly how I understand sex. Thank you, fellow ace. You are a credit to our race.
As a repulsed asexual, people tell me all the time that I am not valid. Just because I have crushes and I even just got a boyfriend. I want to be in a relationship but the thought of sex terrifies me. I really enjoyed this speech cause it covers a lot of topics that I think people need to hear about. Especially about how asexuals should be represented in the media. A great opportunity would have been Jughead from Riverdale, but the show completely threw that out the window.
I am so glad this video exists, I saw it a while ago and have been looking to find it again ever sense. Being asexual, aromatic, and agender I find I'm part of a group that has practically no presence as I have yet to hear of someone who shares my social identity, but even so when I first saw this video was about the time I was really coming to terms with what that fully meant and was so glad just to know that while I'm still an oddity I have some community that can understand what it means when I tell them who I am.
I'm not asexual, but hearing this makes me feel bad for everything they have to go though. Aces you are doing great, you are a beautiful human being and you are worth it
asexuality solely means that you are not sexually attracted to any gender. if you still have romantic feelings for others, it means that you are not aromantic, but are still asexual. i know i doubt my asexuality a lot, but don't ever think it is less valid because of anything that is not sexual attraction :)
I pretended to be sexual because I honestly didn't know any better until recently. A lot of us go through the same kinds of things, and it really is too bad that we don't get credit. Even doctors give me weird looks when they ask all those questions about any chance of an STI or being pregnant and all I answer is no. It may be more subtle than homophobia, but aphobia/acephobia does exist.
Great speech. Other than House, one more bad representation of asexuality was Sheldon from TBBT. First 3 seasons he was asexual, there were lines where it was strongly implied, then he found a girlfriend, with whom he didn't had sex for a long time. But authors never had intention of letting him stay asexual.
The relatability👏 Educate and inform. Honestly felt worried about being so similar to serial killers or mental health patients being portrayed in the media back those teen years.
When I finished watching the video I thought " omg I have to send it to someone" but I don't know anyone who is asexual and only like 4 people know I am asexual.
Ariana Villegas it’s alright I’m sure you’ll meet someone else who is ace after believing I wouldn’t meet another person like me I finally meet another asexual person and guess what they were actually someone I’ve know for a while and we just never talked about it 😂
I could totally cry over this, she just said what I've been trying to say like my entire lifetime, I swear. I came out to my homophobic parents and instead of lashing out, they laughed at me, "Asexuality isn't real". We need more representation.
Also, I hope Elsa is really asexual, I know everyone wants her to have a girlfriend and everything but c'mon, LGBTQ already has a lot of representation, (maybe not enough but yeah), let us have this, we're literally invisible, segregated and hated on by both, conservative people and LGBT community
How i found out was when I dated a guy because I had a "crush" on him, in reality I only dated him because I thought oh a popular guy likes me so i have to date him like in the movies. When he wanted to kiss or anything with contact freaked me out so I searched and only last year did I come to tearms I was asexual and idk if I'm aro or not but I dont think i am, im still finding myself out ig💙
Plz help..... I am asexual but i am not sure to come out to my friends cuz I might loose them and probably get a lot of hate on insta from the people at my old school. What do I do?
Go with your gut. If you think it’s safe to tell certain individuals, go for it. I recommend it keeping off of Insta for a little while though because that can get... messy
Is it working what I did? It seems to display for me if I click on the gear wheel and show subtitiles. It appears you can add translations but that may be just for me?
People say we don't belong in de LGBT community I think they say that cuz we are not in the name etc. But as far as I know the LBGT community is more than just a name, as far as I know LBGT stands for loving en accepting from yourself from others. So why would you say we don't belong there if it's more than just a name with a meaning.
I’m so confused because I didn’t think that you could actually “come out” as asexual. I thought it was one of the only sexualities that you didn’t have to let people know
Correlation does not equal causation. People who are gay/bi also have higher rates of ASD, yet you fail to mention that. Being asexual doesn't equal being autistic. Some are, many are not - same with gays and bisexuals.
sooo... they think Elsa from frozen can be asexual? COOL!
and that speech was so BEAUTIFUL!
Nice pun.

Be My Dreamspiration what books were they? I'd love to give them a read
SAME.. i dont know any other asexuals no one undersands me as much as her
Yeah, id really like to read some
TMI by Cassandra Clare supposedly have an ace character, his name's Raphael and he's allegedly asexual but doesn't really get much attention
Sponge bob 😩
The criminal minds reference was on point👌👌👌👌
This is an amazing speech. I myself have been questioning if I am on the ace spectrum. No matter who I am, I will do my best to support and acknowledge asexuals.
"a woman has needs"
you know you're ace when you always felt like that that meant food and clothes
6:02 “For me, it’s like discussing the cardiovascular system. It’s interesting, kinda gross, and I get why it happens.”
That is exactly how I understand sex. Thank you, fellow ace. You are a credit to our race.
The audience is amazing, she is amazing, this speech is amazing

I'm not agender, but I am asexual and aromantic, and although our experiences may not be the same, I stand by you and support you. You're amazing :)
hi im also asexual aromantic and agender o/
I'm not asexual, but hearing this makes me feel bad for everything they have to go though.
Aces you are doing great, you are a beautiful human being and you are worth it
thank you
@@iguessyeah8687 ofc! Don't give up :)
am i asexual if i have very strong feelings for people but not sexually

Scarlett Jordan you could be. Romantic interests and sexual interests aren't the same thing.
Same
same
@Rebecca ALLISON nah romantic and sexual attraction are different
that was the most beautiful speech i've ever listened to :')
What. A. Queen.
Well I cried. Wonderful speech, love her 😭
PREACH IT

I got chills at the end. This is beautiful!
Thank you! I get told aces aren't important because they aren't oppressed, and then they continue to say I'm sick in the head or something

this video is 7 years old but at least I've found this gem now! such a good speach, sadly still relevant
This was a beautiful speech.

Bless her heart.
Peridot why?
Im Misanthropist/asexual/aromantic and I can kinda relate
Excellent! Brilliant speech.
damm that got me awsome speech I feel for her
Before I came out, someone once told me "you don't have to get married just because your a girl" and I felt so validated and didn't know why yet.
I am asexual
Omg this was amazing. Thank you so much for talking about this. :)
hey sorry to be weird but I never cry and tears started streaming down my face after this
I could totally cry over this, she just said what I've been trying to say like my entire lifetime, I swear. I came out to my homophobic parents and instead of lashing out, they laughed at me, "Asexuality isn't real". We need more representation.

This girl for president!
Fantastic speech!!! I wish I found this sooner
I'm glad I found this speech : )
this is so validating
How i found out was when I dated a guy because I had a "crush" on him, in reality I only dated him because I thought oh a popular guy likes me so i have to date him like in the movies. A friend said I am straight because I am not bi or gay and other say "can u just say your gay it's easier"
Plz help..... I am asexual but i am not sure to come out to my friends cuz I might loose them and probably get a lot of hate on insta from the people at my old school. What do I do?

Hi! Could you enable the option to add subtitles? Thank you!
Added. It looks imperfect but helpful to some.
Craig Smith I wanted to translate it to my language Armenian.
Is it working what I did? It seems to display for me if I click on the gear wheel and show subtitiles. It appears you can add translations but that may be just for me?
It doesn't show for public, If you do not mind you could go
My Channel/Creator Studio/Edit/Subtitles\CC/Community contributions: Turn On
Thanks, I think I got it. Does that work?
Spongebob is confirmed asexual. Also, that House episode was shit.
Great speech! Do you know who she is?
Yes, she's my daughter and I'm very proud of her.
Thanku so much for supporting her and who she is and being open minded wish we had more parents like you
People say we don't belong in de LGBT community I think they say that cuz we are not in the name etc. But as far as I know the LBGT community is more than just a name, as far as I know LBGT stands for loving en accepting from yourself from others. So why would you say we don't belong there if it's more than just a name with a meaning.
Actually, we ARE in the name. The A in LGBTQIA+ means "asexual". It's amazing! I was so happy when I learned it.
I’m so confused because I didn’t think that you could actually “come out” as asexual. I thought it was one of the only sexualities that you didn’t have to let people know
A gender
Asexual
A romantic
Atheist
A
I got 4 A's
Asexual
Aromantic
Atheist
Anxiety
ASD and asexuality are directly linked.
Maybe, but more often than not that's not the case
Correlation does not equal causation. People who are gay/bi also have higher rates of ASD, yet you fail to mention that. Being asexual doesn't equal being autistic. Some are, many are not - same with gays and bisexuals.
Yea, cuz most people with autism don't really understand the norms of society. They are more open.
wtff lmaooooo
sqquid what?
