I literally bought an iPhone SE the day they announced the XS. Perfect size (can still use with one hand easily). I hate large screens and so do a lot of people. 4 inches is the perfect size for a screen. Very pocketable. Still has headphone jack. Uses A9 chip so it's basically as fast as a 6S. Will probably still be supported for a few years. Also about 1/3 the price of the newest phone. They really need to reboot the small phone line. There's still room for improvement.
Pro Player 1⃣ that will be me in 5 years with an iPhone X.....I want one but I just can’t justify spending over a grand on a phone ever (and I can afford it....) when there’s cheaper options.....
To me, from a design standpoint? This is arguably the BEST DESIGNED iPhone EVER. It's solid all the way through. I don't think there won't be no other designs that can stand the test of time like this one. All the new designs after this one seems fragile. I got my 2017 SE and it is still blazing at 32GB. I don't know if I am gonna upgrade my phone just yet. If so, it is because I need a BIGGER SCREEN. My eyes are not like it used to be and I have to almost strain my eyes to see. Otherwise I LOVE MY iPHONE SE.
I had the iPhone 5 for 4 years and only upgraded because it got wet and started becoming unreliable. I do remember being jealous when the 5s came out with the new features like the touch ID, but still, my 5 was an excellent phone!
This video was so pleasing to watch, the whole script, the footage, the HUGE improvement in quality you got, so goood to see you making 10/10 content :D
My iPhone 6s was stolen about 18 months ago I was given a retired 5s from my mother in law, which was lovely. iOS 10 wasn’t great and iOS 11 on was awful, almost unusable. Obviously 12 isn’t officially out but I certainly wouldn’t recommend one on iOS 11. Granted the battery probably wasn’t at its best but I can’t recommend one personally in 2018, the SE is far more powerful and only about 50% more expensive at £150-200 and is a far better buy for not much more money...
Scott Davidson are you used to a modern iPhone? Or do you put up with it? No way any 5s is even close to breezing through ios11 it even runs badly on the iPhone X, the gf has one and it has so many glitches and slow downs on the daily
Brax It's getting weak just as one can expect for a device of its age. Especially considering it's been used daily since it was new. I can still get by ok with it, but I will likely be changing the battery soon.
It is the best looking iPhone ever made. When the iPhone 6 first came out, I was like, WHAT IS THAT. It looked so bland and had those ugly antenna bands. I wish they made the 6 like a bigger 5s. I really love its box design and chamfered edges. I don't know what apple is thinking now.
I moved from a 5s to a 7 recently, as my 5s kept becoming very hot (even after a fresh battery replacement). It was also very slow, and the 7 was worth it.
I went from a large Samsung to an iPhone se and I LOVE IT. I’m 6’4 with big fingers and have no issues with the buttons when typing. This size is my favorite
I used this all the way up until last Christmas. I had a windows phone before it and my friend upgrade from his windows phone to the 5, straight away he showed it to me in the car the following Christmas I got a 5s and it was great.
I just ordered an SE the other day. I almost upgraded to one last year but the salesman steered me to iPhone 8. When Apple discontinued the SE, I made sure to get one as a second phone. Can't wait for it to arrive. I agree it's a particularly good-looking phone.
I type on my 5S SUPER fast, like SUPER! no joke, no discomfort whatsoever - totally ok with the size of the keyboard. And yeah, I love the looks of 5S a lot - it looks awesome.
The iPhone 5s was a game-changer for the smartphone industry, secure biometric authentication and 64-bit computing in a device that fits in your pocket. I still have mine as a backup, but upgraded after two years because I prefer a larger screen (iPhone 6s Plus has lasted me three years now, and will do for another considering Apple wants $1,100 for a 64 GB Xs Max). Though I probably won't be updating my 5s to iOS 12, I'm glad Apple decided to keep supporting it.
im curious how the SE holds up with ios 12. I have been wanting to get a spare device to use when I dont want to carry around my 7 plus. greate video by the way
A nice poetic video :D I've also been using the iPhone 5s for the past month and I agree with everything you said- the keyboard is the worst thing about it. Also it only holds 2 apps in the background and it isn't fast, but it is SO smooth on iOS 12- I think smoothness more important than raw speed for the casual user. The rear camera is fine and the front camera is not sharp (a good thing if you're ugly) and the speaker is adequate too. The battery life is below average but as it is a small cell it does charge fast. But THAT vibration motor- it can genuinely start an earthquake. All in all, if you want to give iOS a try then there is no better cheap option than the 5s- I got mine for £40 in v. good condition. When I have the money I will get a bigger phone (also kinda missing android) but this is the perfect backup- 100% reliable. Cheers
Still rocking my 5s, especially with a Jailbreak running with it since the day I bought it. The best looking iPhone ever and, I agree, the best of the "50 shades of Space Gray" Apple has ever invented. As my 15" Mid-2012 non-Retina MacBook Pro, I hope it lasts for years and years to come, even w/o official newer OS support - I do Jailbreak, I'm aware of the risks and really don't mind using an "outdated/insecure" system for that matter, the freedom to control my own device with my own desired experience is worth more than anything else.
Even on my iPhone X, I use the smaller one handed keyboard option, which reduces the keyboard to the 5s size. It just happens to be the perfect size for one thumb typing and I think you just needed time to readjust
Most of the points here apply to my Nokia 6.1: Android One for a clutter less experience, a screen size that makes sense in a modern day, and that design: black with copper accents and a design that you would be forgiving for thinking it would've been a prototype iPhone 6, making it look so classy but at the same time so eye catching. The CPU is fast enough for Oreo and will get Pie and Q with a guarantee from Google and security updates. If Apple made a 4.7 inch phone with the design language of the iPhone 5s, I would buy it almost instantly because it would offer everything I like about my Nokia 6.1 from the outside, with the guts of an iPhone.
I've always hated iPhones and I've always had Samsung and Android things. BUT when the 5S came out with iOS 7 I believe, it was love at first sight. I've had the 5s for 2 years and now I have a iPhone 7 for a year now. It was my very first iPhone and I still love it to death 😍😍😍
I used an iPhone 5 on iOS 6 for 2 and a half weeks. Going from a X... it was odd lol! It worked great! iMessage, Instagram, RUclips, Netflix! Everything! You should do a video on it.
i.like the iphone 5s but there is 1 problem i really hate. if you used your phone for a year. the side of the screen will turn yellow. its the glue used in the screen.
Something to maybe think about... I just learned about a week ago that on the iPhones that have the newer haptic home buttons, you can double touch (not click but just place your finger on it two times fast) to get the top of the screen scooted down so they are easier to reach. I wonder how the iPhones without the home button do that?
Hey Luke I’ve been watching your videos for a while (and although I love all of your videos), but the production quality of this one really stands out! Loving the product shots with the new camera! :)
iPhone 5S was my first iPhone 2016, but I got the 6 2017, and most people can accept the size of the 6. The 5S is honestly too small for today. The cheapest and first iPhone brand new I recommend is the 6. iOS 12 today and works just fine.
6 only has 1 GB RAM which is a potential cause of slowness, and not any better than the 5s. But the 6s is still a good choice. I've had a 6s Plus since launch day and it's still fine for me in 2018.
I think this is a close second in appearance to the 4. The 4 looks really nice to me, like a professional version of the xr (except it’s size) since it has squared steel edges
I stil prefer a small smart phone. Simply because, in my opinion, being a person who just upgraded from a flip phone that was given to me. This phone is perfect. It fits in my pocket with no problem. And has a lot of things that I probably won't use besides email and text.
Funny, watching this on my 5S. I have two phone lines. An 8-256GB. And this venerable 32GB 5S that I cannot bring myself to ditch. Perfect for gym and music with headphones. Have a slim battery pack with upfacing speaker grills to boot. Bought new late in its shelf life and still not a nick on it. Can’t wait for IOS 12 on it! Can’t compete with my 8, but much more pocketable and still use it daily almost more than the 8. Great video and yeah typing a pain. But I have learned to speak slowly with this one:-)).
I use an iPhone SE as a secondary device, mostly as an iPod because the sound quality and the small form factor and I love it, I'd love if Apple had lauched a smaller device but with better specs and fingerprint reader since the one on the SE is quite slow
The 5s is such a great phone. And I'd have to kind of disagree with the "ancient" label, at least in the student world. It's a pretty normal phone to see around school, and I used a regular 5 for a few years up until a few months ago. I'm on an iPhone 7 plus now, but it wouldn't even feel that painful to me to go back.
If the iPhone SE had come out with the same black design as the iPhone 5, I probably would have chosen that over the Space Gray design, which is still pretty legit.
Yep. Best form factor ever. I still have my SE, and I keep switching my SIM card from the X to the SE back and forth. X when I know I’ll be near water and watching videos, and SE when I’m on the go and with limited pocket space. Had Apple launched a “XSE”, with all features of the X in the SE form factor, I’d totally upgrade. As it is now, nah. I’ll keep both my SE and my X.
The Iphone 5s, is the last Iphone I've owned & used. I replaced it 3 years ago, when I made the switch the cheap Chinese Android phones, and now I am using Blackberry;s again, starting with the Priv, and now the Keyone Black Edition made by TCL. But I did enjoy using my Iphone allot, and back when it was new.... It wasn't small really, just phones like the Samsung Note were just giant back then. I don't recall ever having issues typing on it, but its been so long now..... I still have it now, its my 2nd backup phone. But I wouldn't honestly choose to use it as my daily. Heck if my Blackberry Keyone broke, I would go back to my Blackberry Priv first before the Iphone. But I have switched ecosystems, and last time I used it briefly like a year & abit ago, it was way to slow for my taste....
I still use my 5s as my own personal device as my two other 6 inch android phones. Cause my hands are small and the iphone 5s is perfect for me by size and performance..
i really agree with everything you said... that's why i'm sad they'd kill the small factor iPhone... i always said to people: want a bigger screen, then buy a bigger screen (AKA iPad). Most of the time i need and prefer an smaller screen 'cause i'm always on hurry, and when i need a bigger screen, i have all the time i need (so a pc or ipad works fine) i would add just a little bit of RAM, battery and durable shell would be VERY nice, and would be a must buy iPhone for me... hope my 5s lives until Apple do something good for people like me...
I still have my 5S, though I use my iPhone 7+ instead these days. The 5S is missing some features, like HD Voice and wifi calling, but for the most part, it's a great phone. I've thought about using it for a day just because it would be interesting to go back, but it would be hard to use after having that 7+ for so long now.
my iphone SE died last week WHILE updating to IOS 12. It's a really tough call whether to get something fancy like the pixel 3 or just pay a paultry $150 to buy it again
My mom has an iPod touch 5th gen, it’s a pain when I need to do something with it, (which is funny my iPhone 6 isn’t that much bigger it’s only 4.7 but that 4 inch screen seems so small......)
I loved all my phones i currently have 2 5 and 1 5s. tbh its like the perfect size for me and for my daily stuffs like calls and text and a little light browsing.
I can’t recommend a 5S when you can get a 5SE for $50 on AT&T prepaid or about $120 on straight talk. Most people who use a phone this cheap are on prepaid anyways, so I highly recommend these SE deals. Plus you can get a 6 on these carriers for around $120. Plus all of these devices are brand new with warranty, new battery, all accessories, and more.
Been using SE for the last 2 years and couldn’t be happier with the size and performance. I bet money I can type quicker than you 😁 on a bigger phone - mindset. Sadly my phone is slowly dying - freezing and battery performance - and the thought of buying a bigger phone (I am left with no apple options) makes me shivering 🤨
5S is the legend have to say. To my eye it's the best looking iPhone ever, same goes for SE. But still i'm not Apple fan, i have used Android devices since first smartphone but i have tested 5S (unbricked it with iTunes) and held 8 Plus on hands.. Still i don't own Apple devices
Hi, i still using the iPhone 5s, but there is a some lag in the keyboard, do you have some tips to reduce the lag ? Also you have a subscriber thank you
I think the Iphone 7 is the best value when it comes to Iphones right now in 2020. When you just want a working and fully supported IPhone that will get updates for about 2 years from now, dont look any further
I have 5s A7 and ipod touch A8 6th gen.For gamming, if par with average nowdays 150 sub android phone. Iphone 5S is the first introduce touch id.After ios 11, the battery system cripple. Auto on bluetooth, lack of battery usage.. 4 hour then die even new battery. I would said the review pretty lack.
Apple always listens to its customers. This video extols the 5s/SE as wonderful, perfect form factor, affordable price...DISCONTINUED!!! I hope Apple puts out a phone of 5s/SE size again before my SE takes a dump or I may have to dump Apple after ~8years of use. I want a phone not an iPad in my pocket.
It would be nice if they improved the performance of MacOS on older devices too, I probably could have squeezed a year or two more out of my mid 2012 MBP... ☹️
The Iphone 5s' size is a downfall for a lot of people. For me though, It's a blessing. :) You can't have your phone out in class where I go, so lots of kids try to do it secretly. This, in turn, gets a lot of them caught. Let me clarify that a majority of the kids who do get caught usually have one of the newest Iphones. (Iphone x, Xr, XS Max) This goes in correlation with them getting caught because those phones are huge! Now a 5s or 6 is easy enough to hide in your sleeve when a teacher walks by. And that's how I spent almost every day in first hour watching Netflix ;)
Ha what perfect timing, my friend gave me his old 5s with a searching error, once I get it fixed I’m debating updating to ios12 or getting it jailbroken (several versions old)

y'all must have baby hands. I use my s9+ with one hand all the time
Also, I have pretty large hands and I find typing on a 5" screen to be fine.
I remember when I wanted to get an iPhone 5s but it was too expensive for me and thought I would never get it, well, I can afford it now
Pro Player 1⃣ that will be me in 5 years with an iPhone X.....I want one but I just can’t justify spending over a grand on a phone ever (and I can afford it....) when there’s cheaper options.....
5 years or more...
K well don't get it
gmcnewlook let's hope it ages as good as the 5S though
To me, from a design standpoint? This is arguably the BEST DESIGNED iPhone EVER. It's solid all the way through. For me iPhone X is

Camera work in this video was amazing! 😍
I still use an iPhone 5s
Me too
How much it??
100% agree on both the hot takes! Keep up the great work my guy :D
Luke, is getting really good. Well, said.
That was so cool how you edited to the color change
I also like my 5s. It’s new from a supermarket deal and my main phone for now.

Tom Scott yeah I have a 7 been running iOS 12 since beta 1 so haven’t tried iOS 11.4.1 but iOS 11was awful
I still use and love my 5s. It has been extremely reliable for the 3 years I’ve owned it.
How's the battery?
Brax It's getting weak just as one can expect for a device of its age. Especially considering it's been used daily since it was new. I can still get by ok with it, but I will likely be changing the battery soon.
@@nickwoodruff3321 Does it last a day?

Totally agree. My mom uses my old 5s, and I just updated it to iOS 12 for her. Still works great!
Still using the iPhone 5
Good video. That was and still is a great phone. Glad you enjoyed your time with it. Keep em coming!
I had mine from nov 13 to sept 17... then i got a 8+ and im so happy with the bigger screen
And no, i don't have a problem using it with one hand
I used this all the way up until last Christmas. I had a windows phone before it and my friend upgrade from his windows phone to the 5, straight away he showed it to me in the car the following Christmas I got a 5s and it was great.
My bro actually wants one!

I can’t hold my 6s Plus the safest way but I can do everything with one hand if I have to without many problems
I've just been given an iPhone 5S, I love it already!
Great content! Your channel it’s getting better and better. BTW could you do a video on Macs fan speed app?
When I first saw this phone I instantly fell in love with it and I still do to this day
I used the 5s for 2 months but this 5s was totally used for 4 yrs its still in good shape

Luke Miani no now I’m watching again looking for this
Luke Miani yeah now I’m seeing this thanks!
Nice vid! I picked up a mint condition space gray SE 64gb for 80 bucks from my buddy. Crazy ass deal.

I prefer the chill music :D I hope you're not changing it to try and appeal to more people, be yourself bro :D

If the iPhone SE had come out with the same black design as the iPhone 5, I probably would have chosen that over the Space Gray design, which is still pretty legit.
Hello Luke,
Have you ever thought of shooting an iPhone fixing and Flipping video? :)
I’m interested in starting that “side job”
Yep. Best form factor ever. I still have my SE, and I keep switching my SIM card from the X to the SE back and forth. X when I know I’ll be near water and watching videos, and SE when I’m on the go and with limited pocket space.

I have used my friend's iphone 5s and it is dam small and I agree with you
What's The intro Song?
The iPhone SE is same form factor with a iPhone 6 series processor and still runs great also. I prefer this size and form factor.
Nice video. Already suscribed😝 saludos from Mexico
Seeing you cheer about the 5s, I wonder what you say about the SE? Better camera, better CPU, more RAM...

Most of the time i need and prefer an smaller screen 'cause i'm always on hurry, and when i need a bigger screen, i have all the time i need (so a pc or ipad works fine)
i would add just a little bit of RAM, battery and durable shell would be VERY nice, and would be a must buy iPhone for me... hope my 5s lives until Apple do something good for people like me...
Hey! I do agree that the iPhone 5 is a good looking phone, but the beat design goes for the iPhone 4 :)
My mom has an iPod touch 5th gen, it’s a pain when I need to do something with it, (which is funny my iPhone 6 isn’t that much bigger it’s only 4.7 but that 4 inch screen seems so small......)
I loved all my phones i currently have 2 5 and 1 5s. tbh its like the perfect size for me and for my daily stuffs like calls and text and a little light browsing.
i used an iphone 5s and now i use the iphone se, touch type is easy. you just need to get use to it
I just upgraded from the SE to the 8 and I miss my SE! I was hoping for an SE2 in the same form factor but no luck.
Uses a refurbished iPhone SE now, super fast and portable except the touch id is slower than newer products, and most importantly, a headphone jack!
I have an broken iPhone 5s it was great
now I'm gonna put my 5s straight on table and prank my sister with that vibration alarm!
What is the name of this song
What is the name of the song that you used in this video?
it might be that apple still want their customers to spend on App Stores?
I can’t recommend a 5S when you can get a 5SE for $50 on AT&T prepaid or about $120 on straight talk. Most people who use a phone this cheap are on prepaid anyways, so I highly recommend these SE deals. Plus you can get a 6 on these carriers for around $120. Plus all of these devices are brand new with warranty, new battery, all accessories, and more.
Love my SE
But the space grey argument it’s totally valid
About the design hmm, I’d take the 4 series design then 5 ones first
I'm gonna need your number for that one handed plus size use thing...
Can't wait for IPhone SE X though
Not gonna happen
Hi, i still using the iPhone 5s, but there is a some lag in the keyboard, do you have some tips to reduce the lag ? Also you have a subscriber thank you
this certainly aged well (the reviews great, but i certainly wouldn’t say it’s the best “bang for your buck”)
i still use an iPhone 5 with iOS 10. and yes, it is damn good!
Still using a 5s and it it works great
Still a great phone in 2018especially for outdoors or sports..so light
How's the battery life on iOS 12 for the 5s
My favorite phone. I used one for 4 years.
I picked one up for 25 with sim tray missing
Apple always listens to its customers. This video extols the 5s/SE as wonderful, perfect form factor, affordable price...DISCONTINUED!!!
I hope Apple puts out a phone of 5s/SE size again before my SE takes a dump or I may have to dump Apple after ~8years of use. I want a phone not an iPad in my pocket.
It would be nice if they improved the performance of MacOS on older devices too, I probably could have squeezed a year or two more out of my mid 2012 MBP... ☹️
I really loved my iPhone 5S, it definitely is the most gorgeous iPhone. I have de iPhone 8plus now
Can it work on the dji go 4 app
Make more of these “is it still worth it” videos
Ha what perfect timing, my friend gave me his old 5s with a searching error, once I get it fixed I’m debating updating to ios12 or getting it jailbroken (several versions old)
Luke, I can use my iPhone 7 Plus with one hand
I love the 5s and the SE. i’ve own both of them because of the size. I hope that Apple take my comment 🤣
