You know Luke, you could easily just be another flashy tech RUclipsr face in the crowd but its videos like this that demonstrates what sets the few apart. Your videos are genuinely knowledgeable and helpful like many others but what sets you apart and seems very rare in this field is genuine character. You come across as a really funny chill guy with some, cool and creative ideas. Keep doing you bro!
Excellent Guys this is what being Real RUclipsrs is about. Lots of fun watching this video and lots of good stuff to help open your mind with. Shared this with my niece she's 11 and loves techies stuff. Thanks.
I like the idea, but the severely limited bandwidth into and out of each phone limits how effectively they can work together as a single system. High-performance systems need fast interconnects for anything other than embarrassingly parallel workloads. Android phones might be better suited for this, since they already run the Linux kernel (and you can install a more standard Linux on some, e.g. using PostmarketOS).
This is amazing!!! From the Rick roll to the chess, poker and running man graphics. It was fun with out loud laughs and surprises. Mostly, because you two represent the best of American spirit. Doing something incredibly difficult, time consuming and seemingly “pointless” because you wanted to try something random and different. Exactly how great discoveries are made btw. If RUclips gave out content creator awards, this would be in nomination. Great video!
14:00 Luke, did you make sure that your network was set up to accommodate all of those extra devices? If DCHP ran out of IPs to hand out, no further devices would be able to connect.
Fun fact: Based on the phones' wallpapers, you can actually tell what version they are running, or what version they were running in the past! Here at around 14:24, you can see a lot of the wallpapers at once. The ones with the blue nebula wallpaper are (or were) running iOS 7. Those phones are most likely iPhone 4's running iOS 7, or iPhone 4S's inheriting the wallpaper in iOS 9. The ones with the ocean floor wallpaper (or whatever it is) are running iOS 9. These are definitely iPhone 4S's running iOS 9, their last supported version. The few with the mountain/night sky wallpaper are (or were) running iOS 8. These are definitely iPhone 4S's either running iOS 8 or inheriting its wallpaper in iOS 9. And, lastly, there is exactly one iPhone with the wallpaper of a rippling lake/pond. This iPhone was running iOS 6 at one point, but it is obviously now running a newer version.
These would look good as tiles on a wall. I always loved the aesthetic of this phone. I wonder if you could simply turn them into security cameras? Or webcams?
I have an interesting suggestion...is it possible to remove all the outer casings of the phones, and turn them into a tv? Perhaps create a custom backing or case to hold them all?
I've always wanted to do something like this will all my iPhones! I work in electronics repair, so I have so many extras sitting around in working condition, well over a couple hundred. I don't think I'd have the patience to do something to that scale though haha! Really fun to watch.
This project is so cool! Noah's app is amazing! So cool that you can add any number of additional devices later on. --And the sound of 40 iPhones beginning to charge at the same time =bliss! 😄
Just imagine how many of these would be stolen or lost. Those users would have been really happy to get their sim card and/or data back. No way that many Iphones where sold and then locked.
Well, you never gave up. When Apple drop support they should send a command to the phone to unlock them from activation. Those phones could be a godsend to developing nations.
Technically the phone is perfectly usable, it's just that its serial number/IMEI is reported as being linked to a icloud account in apples servers, and then that is passed along to the setup app, that shows the activation lock screen on the phone. I don't think the icloud data is stored on the phone.
You can use the ones with high storage (32 or 64gb) and use them as IP cameras. Surely you can do that, considering that the cameras for these guys aren’t that bad at all. I have a 4S and video quality is surprisingly sharp for a decade old device.
6:05 they are also easier because you can just get parts from other phones and youll be good, unlike the newer phones where if you get a screw from a different phone (same model ofc) itll say its not original and wont work (yes, its an exageration, but on the other hand, its basically the only part that you can change, everything else has an id)
