I married my soldier 57 years ago and lost him 9 months ago. He served his 4 years in Vietman, but he was still a soldier the day he died. I just listened to Trace Adkins sing this song again. I'm still, and will always be, the wife of my soldier. My thanks every time I hear this song.
I hope somebody told him welcome home out of every war we have fought they were the ones that did not receive praise they were spat on criticized and demonized I hope that somebody in his life told him welcome home I try and say that to every vet that comes my way because it doesn't matter if you fought world war 1 world war 2 Vietnam Desert Storm or any other major conflict that has happened I don't tell them thank you for your service no I tell them welcome home and I pray that anyone who has eyes says the same thing for it is not the battles they have fought in that makes it noteworthy but the blood tears and pain they have suffered to keep the rest of us from having to experience the hardships they have so to your soldier the next time you visit his grave tell him from me welcome home

I just got medically discharged from the Army a month ago. Served exactly 3 years. My life plan was to serve until retirement. But it got cut short thanks to mineres disease. If someone asked me would i do it all over again? You damn right i would
Buckeye colt your story sounds exactly like my son's he was also medically retired from the army he served 3 years as well his injury was due to a helicopter hitting turbulence at the same time he opened the door to jump.6 Hairline fracures to his skull.
Been out since 2012. There isn’t a day goes by when my body doesn’t ache. I fought for an ungrateful and apathetic nation that seems to be going to hell in a hand basket, but damn it I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. I’m still a soldier.
Have you listened to, Am I the Only One by Aaron Lewis? It fits with your opinion about our Country and I agree with you 100% when you speak about the shape our Country's in!! My Husband is a Marine, as well as his Dad who served 3 terms in Vietnam and he just turned 90 a couple months ago!! I thank you for your service and all that you've had to sacrifice for me and my Children, so they can live free!! God Bless you, even though thanking you just isn't enough, but I say it with every fiber of my being!! Sincerely, Robin, from Athens, Georgia. Home of the 2022 National Championship team! Georgia BullDawgs!! It's the Year of the Dawgs!!
thank you for wasting tax payer money fighting a load of nonsense.... Na, I cant really blame people for taking a job. I just blame people for glorifying battle and military service.
jbwifi Tell our enemies to behave and not take over other countries or US and we'll stay home. We wish we could do more: for the farmers being slaughtered in South Afrika, the Coptics being slaughtered in Egypt, take down the DMZ unifying Korean like we did the Iron Curtain, etc. signed, a Soldier always PS we do much more than just fight on the battle field.
I returned from a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1971. When we landed, over 150 war protesters greeted us from behind the airport fence, just 50 feet away from the plane. About 20 MPs were stationed along the fence for security. It wasn't until 1986 that the city of Chicago finally decided to hold a "Welcome Home" parade for Vietnam veterans. At the time, I was working in downtown Chicago, so I was able to join the parade and march alongside others from the 1st Aviation Brigade in Vietnam. To my amazement, and the city's, 200,000 people participated in the parade, with an estimated 500,000 spectators lining the streets. The city had only planned for a maximum of 10,000 people, both in the parade and watching it, so traffic was tied up for hours and they were not happy. It was an incredible experience.

Denver brother that's freaking awesome thank you so much for serving our country I was about a child when it happened but my older brother was over there I never got to know him thank you so much
You guys and gals were done wrong too. You did what you were told to. Then were treated like hell when you come home. My uncle Charles came home in a body bag treated like a hero for getting killed by a mortar. While the rest were dammed. My hats off to you soldier. 🫡 🖖
@@donaldhoudek2889 Who tf cares!!??? You've more than earned that tribute, brother!! Please, accept this small, humble tribute to you, your brothers and, sisters, your families and, friends, especially those on The Wall. It's not much. But, it's from my heart: 🫡 From a brother who served a generation later.
"And if they called and needed him back, he'd be on that plane." Damn straight... may be a little slower, not quite as nimble, but thousands and thousands of us would be there if the need arises. Thank you brother!
When my recruiter asked me why I wanted to enlist in the Army I think my answer surprised him. I said "this country has given me all I could ever ask. Good schools, a safe place to grow up, freedom. I think it's time I repaid some of that." My dad was with me and I heard him sniffle a bit. It took the sergeant a minute to respond and when he did he looked at my dad and said "I wish more of my recruits felt that way." Unfortunately an eye issue kept me from serving, something I have regretted ever since. It would have been an honor and a privilege to be able to wear my country's uniform.
I am a daughter of an Air Force medic. My ex served 6 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I was by his side for 10 years of his service. Now my oldest is a 2nd Lt in the US ARMY. I could not be prouder of these men!
I served for 12 years and even though I am a veteran now this song is still very true. Even though I am out of the service now I am still a soldier and always will be. R.I.P. to all my brothers and sisters who never made it back with me.
@357 mag You got that right. I still am a Soldier when at work. I usually get all kinds of compliments for doing a good job. I also saved a coworkers life when he was choking.
Great song. My son was a member of the 82nd Airborne, 1-505th PIR. Medically (honorably) discharged from injuries thanks to an IED. PTSD is also a problem, but he is a guide for the wounded veterans of Oklahoma by taking them hunting on weekends during waterfowl seasons. Our daughter-in-law sees that it helps him also. His issues with PTSD aren't close to what they used to be. God bless all of our troops.
@Trace Darrell Adkins I'm a little hesitant to do that and I don't know how to be sure I'm not getting hacked by someone claiming to be you. Thank you so much! I loved the role you played in the movie "Lifted".
@Jon Hillard Thank you Jon, and please pass along our thanks to him as well. Our son's biggest injuries are the kind you can't see, and it breaks my heart that he can't get the help he needs. We are so grateful for the daughter we gained the day she married our son in 2012. We live 500 miles apart, and it's easier for us to travel than it is for them with 3 kids. He will open up to his dad rather than me, but our daughter-in-law tells me things so that I know what he is going through also. We never judge, and he knows he can talk to us, at least he can his dad. Take care Jon!
Proud daughter of a Marine who later joined the Air Force, career military, proud adopted mom of an Army Blackhawk instructor Soldier. Generations have served this country but we don't acknowledge the debt we owe them. Wake up America, FREEDOM ISN'T FREE it takes courage and blood and loneliness and treasure and it takes strong supportive families to help our military serve with honor. Pray for our beloved nation and support where you can. Lastly, say Thank You! Thanks to Trace Adkins - this is so beautiful.
Been 8 years almost been through combat, rehab then again and again, I found god and Jesus. I still have A hard time dealing with family work and family. It’s hard all my brothers commenting I know nothing helps. I served with the 3rd I.D. 7th btab. 4b.c.t. MOs 11bravo. If anyone needs help or anything please reach out and I love I respect and I understand what hell your going through and how much you had to do and partake in. Taking or giving. As an American veteran I would like to say thank you for your support in what your father did what I did in Afghanistan and those we lost it feels good to know there's those who actually still support us in our defense of this country God bless you and again thank you for your support
I was a British soldier for 30 years I fought in five wars for my country and it's true what this song says, my wife says that I am still in the army, but what did we really fight for when the youth of today have forgotten that the freedom and liberty that they enjoy today men and women fought and died for them
I've been out of uniform for 26 years but damn straight I'd rejoin in half a heart beat. My blood will always run red, white and blue and my oath does not have an expiration date. Enemies of freedom beware there are more of us than you.
Just remember this quote: Fight because you love what's behind you, not because you hate what's in front of you (I know it didn't go exactly like it, but you get my point) My father is serving (dog trainer) in the DPR army, (east Ukraine, civil war) and so basically your enemy, but I know that he will respect you as much as he would respect an fellow soldier. It's not about wanting to kill curtain races or destroy curtain country's, it's about showing your loyalty to your country, to YOUR ideology and most of all, to what YOU believe is good.
It's tough to separate it once you get out, I was an MA in the Navy (military police), now that I am out, it is tough for me to not put people in their place when need be.

@Michael Jarrett And that's why I respect veterans above politicians, the oath sworn was more than just a job, it was "the job must be done." My Great Uncles and Grandfather waded into the hell that was WWII, my Father served during Vietnam, many friends/family since then. Being willing to die for the freedom I enjoy today, simply, means that I will always stand with you over those demanding I bow to their politics.
@Michael Jarrett My Dad was radar, Granddad an MP, great Uncle was Tank Commander, they were the same, just buckle down and get the job done, it's a way of life for them (or was for two) and for me.

I'm still an active soldier, and have been for 12 years, this song is a great honor for every soldier. I would also like to see this recognition for veterans and soldiers in my country. An enthralling and emotional song, thank you for that!!!
From this veteran who served as a combat medic for 30 years in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan and Iraq. I will always be soldier. I would go back if they would let me.
My father and Uncles were in the military pre WW2 and WW2, my 5 brothers were all in the military, my Husband was a Vietnam veteran. I honor them for their bravery to protect our USA and that they were able to stand tall with pride for doing just that. Thank you for sharing this song with us Trace Adkins. God bless you.
I married the Navy and he became a support member for special forces, I am also a Navy Brat. My father and my ex husband were in for 20 years. I still believe in the American Dream, support all branches of military, still have a love of our country but most importantly, I support him, my , father, my grandfather, my great grandfather and my great great grandfather. Generations of love for this great Nation!!!

I was at a billy Joel concert Memorial Day weekend and he did “Goodnight Saigon” when he got to the chorus the lights came up and veterans past and present were behind him arm in arm. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house and the chants of USA afterwards was amazing.
Please tell me I'm not the only one this video made me start to cry. This is something I feel allot of people have forgotten the meaning of and respect that isn't shown when it always should.
I gave an oath to protect and defend never will I forget those who were by my side. This song speaks so much truth. Once a soldier always a soldier. My heart goes out to those who never made it back and for the families of the fallen.. From one veteran to all fellow veterans never forget who we are and thank you for your service
Love this song. I was a sailor and an airman. Proud to have served and to have worn both uniforms. God bless our vets and thank you Trace for this song.
My amazing friend Troy used to always say to me: "You'll always be a soldier, it's in your blood!" I miss him every day & am so thankful for everything he & my Army taught me & for ALWAYS being there.
You never lose it. If it's truly in your blood, you just never lose it. You still subconsciously fall into a March when you are walking down the road with a friend. You never forget how to salute. this old lady's been there and done that.

And explains a lot about my dad and why he was working for the uso needed a lot of work for both the government and especially for the military, the song reminds me of him, and the others that over the years that I've met, including Gulf War vets that I met I lived through the Gulf War I was overseas where the missiles were happening most Americans had civilians had left and I had nowhere to return to so I stayed put, I've lived through two Wars and in unless you also include the Vietnam War and I was a child back then and I remember the vets who my dad had to council... So yeah that's true this song is very true.
This is such a perfect song for all soldiers. I never served in the American Army. But I did serve my country in Canada in the Canadian Military for 35 years. I just retired 26 December 2021. I felt lost for awhile but I will always be a soldier. I have done 3 tours in Bosnia, 1 in Somolia, 1 in the Middle East and 2 tours in Afghanistan. Anyway love Trace Adkins wish he would come to Canada I would love to see him.
I have cousins on the wall, brother in Arlington, I served 20 and would bleed and die today for America. Blessed to be free. It never goes away, I cry when I hear the anthem and pray for those who never came home. I love this land.
As a Veteran of 12 years in the USAF, that salute at the end got me! They may of taken my uniform from me but they can never take my Patriotism! I joined for the right reasons! I wanted to serve my country and I did selflessly. I was wrongfully discharged and it hurts more than anything because I really do feel I bleed Red, White and Blue!! God Bless the USA! Thank you Trace for another amazing song!

Apparently 347 of them...maybe they don't like country? I'm not a country music fan, but I completely appreciate the lyrics, respect & passion this & other videos like it have & it's message...so true.
Every once in a while I have to listen to this song.I'm a US Army Veteran myself and these vocals mean so much to me.No matter how long I've been out of the Army , I'm still a soldier each and every day.I don't know where I'd be today without the values and discipline I learned from the military.Although my family and I made so many sacrifices during my deployments , I'd do it all over again if I had too.You can take the soldier out of the Army , but you can't take the Army out of the soldier.
@drewjamison734 I am a 25U. Choose a 17 series MOS, though it will be something different. Go cyber, or intelligence, somewhere in that vein, so that you have back-ups and safety nets in case you don't like the military lifestyle. If you do, keep on trucking, but if you don't want to choose a safe option. Choose what speaks to you, and remember that you still have to follow the army doctrine for whatever you want to do. Look into TMs or technical manuals for things you might find useful and study. Study in school, if you don't score high enough on the ASVAB, you'll either have to settle for a crappy MOS, or, wait like 2 months to take it again, though I'm not sure of the actual time it would take. Good luck, little dude. When I was 10, I dreamed of joining the army, and I made it a reality. I did it out of necessity, though, which makes me mad because I wasn't set up for success and subsequently failed civilian side. I joined to gain housing and food, though I am staying because my unit is like a family I didn't know I needed. I hope you foster that love for your nation and serve, but make sure that when you leave the military, you've sharpened your knives, so to speak, so you succeed when you get out.
Semper Fi, I just enlisted, I'll be leaving in a few days for MCRD in San Diego, thank you for your service, I'm honored to be able to carry on the legacy of the corp and to be a part of the family
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲Daddy served in WWII, Korea, Germany, Korea again, Vietnam, and Germany again. WWII in the Navy and 29 years in the Army. He retired as E9, and I forget the name of this rank. He hadn't held that rank long before he retired. Big Brother served in Vietnam, too, but it was more than enough for him. My father-in-law served in the Army, too. I know he was in Vietnam, but don't know the rest. He passed during our 2nd year of marriage and we don't talk about our dad's service. Our families were blessed that they came home, even though they carried/carry hidden scars from the wars they were part of. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
From a US Marines veteran. Once a Marine always a Marine. We will always protect American. Even if we got to die for you to keep you safe. We do it because we love America.❤
My dad was in the Army thank goodness he’s still with us , my husband is a retired Navy pilot, I spent so many sleepless nights when he was deployed, this June this June we’ll celebrate 45 years together, two of our grandsons are in the Marines. May God Bless our troops Past, Present and Future
I love the part especially with trace Adkins raspy voice even though he wrote if before Rich athletes without a case in terms world and more likely to be shot when. They visit their old neighborhoods of see from and family and one their own kind shoots them out of jealousy but if a police officer pulled them over which would most likely be in the state of the team they play for so even better odds they'd get a pass and asked for a picture and autograph. Because they get play sports for outrageous contracts and live lives only most Americans can dream of and the whole reason they get to is because of the flag that represents the same nation their so called protesting made upload statistics mors white then Latin men are shot daily by police usually for good reasons. But black men are killed daily or more likely to be by other black men. But these disgraceful athletes kneel for the Most un-racist or hateful song and we'll our national most important song that is about our for Father's and everyone who serves but people supporting these athletes call them hero's for being hateful but if they'd listen to the anthem they'd learn what @ hero is not someone who wears pads.and thing their warriors. The only warriors on the field are wearing the uniforms of our military wave or holding flags.
I am a veteran, and I am still a soldier and will be till the day I die. I may not always stand for the Anthem. It really depends on whether this old and abused body will do it. But I still remember the Pledge of Allegiance, parts of the Preamble to the Constitution, and with a jog to my memory, I'll bet I can remember most of it.
Every word in this song is true. Up till the day My Dad passed away he would have served all over again. He gave 17 1/2 years to this great nation. God Bless to every one who served.
Every time I watch this, I'm good until the Veteran's walk out onto the stage. The look of amazement on the soldier's face says so much! The Salute always brings that pain in my throat, trapped tears I call em. Thank you to each and every one of the men and women, past, present and future who give of themselves so selflessly so that I can continue to have the rights you all have fought for!
Listening on Veterans Day currently. Was at the concert that is shown at the end. Hell of an experience. One of my favorite concerts I’ve been to up to date.
I was at the Pensacola Fair when I heard Trace perform this song for the first time. He had real veterans come out on stage (just like how he does in this video), and I'm not going to lie. I cried. It's beyond amazing to see the love that people still have for this country, even when others kneel during the anthem, and step on the flag. It breaks my heart how evil the people of our own country are. Thank you Trace for bringing humanity back in my eyes ❤ Much love from Alabama. #patriotismIsNOTracist
First time hearing this song. What a great tribute to all the veterans. We may get out but that pride stays with us the rest of our lives. I've been out since 2003 and it's still in me of being a soldier. 🇺🇲
When I hear this song, I realize the deep and sincere connection between country music and the hearts of those who listen to it. To all the American soldiers who fought to defend freedom over tyranny: thank you very much!!
First of all to all service men and women thank you so much for being my hero and serving yours and my great country. Just know that I'm a woman and an emotional person and I respect anyone who does and did what you do. Trace gets me deep in my soul and he deserves my respect too. He's so much of a humbled man when it comes to the military. This song made me cry and I had to watch it over and over. I want to hug all the men in this video and just say thank you.

Been out since 2012. There isn’t a day goes by when my body doesn’t ache. I fought for an ungrateful and apathetic nation that seems to be going to hell in a hand basket, but damn it I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. I’m still a soldier.
Thank you for your sacrifices, not just in the service, but throughout your life.
Have you listened to, Am I the Only One by Aaron Lewis?
It fits with your opinion about our Country and I agree with you 100% when you speak about the shape our Country's in!!

Who tf cares!!??? You've more than earned that tribute, brother!! Please, accept this small, humble tribute to you, your brothers and, sisters, your families and, friends, especially those on The Wall. It's not much. But, it's from my heart:
🫡
From a brother who served a generation later.
"And if they called and needed him back, he'd be on that plane."
Damn straight... may be a little slower, not quite as nimble, but thousands and thousands of us would be there if the need arises.
Thank you brother!
Amen to that meandale, even if we can hardly move we WILL stand up for this great country of ours until the day we die!!!
meandale Id be one of those thousands, I didnt choose to separate and id gladly answer the call to come back!
Not an American, but since my brothers have bled shoulder to shoulder with your brothers... HOOAH!
Greetings from a Estonian Defense League member
Amen to that man
Shoulder to shoulder, back to back brother even when I'm 100
When my recruiter asked me why I wanted to enlist in the Army I think my answer surprised him. I said "this country has given me all I could ever ask. Good schools, a safe place to grow up, freedom. I think it's time I repaid some of that." My dad was with me and I heard him sniffle a bit. It took the sergeant a minute to respond and when he did he looked at my dad and said "I wish more of my recruits felt that way." Unfortunately an eye issue kept me from serving, something I have regretted ever since. It would have been an honor and a privilege to be able to wear my country's uniform.
Thank you even though you didn't serve you still tried you deserve it

I will pray for your son. God bless him.

What MOS were you in? I want to join the rangers when I turn 17 but right now I am 10.
I listen to this also been out 54 years now . Still a soldier I've told my wife I want this song played at my funeral .
My fathers served in Korea , and my uncles In WW2 . "GOD BLESS AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE".

A lot of us were drivers. It makes a good income and you're not closed in.
Lots of former military are/have been law enforcement officers, too-serving our country at home.
"he'll stand when he hears the anthem" wish we all still thought that way . ill always stand and so should you
I love the part especially with trace Adkins raspy voice even though he wrote if before Rich athletes without a case in terms world and more likely to be shot when.
Amen
Durn right
backyardbladesmith damn strait
COMBATVET 01 Your damn right
People don't give enough respect to any War Veteran. Thank you for all you people that served and serve for our country seriously thank you
Thank you Brother. We were stationed right down the road from each other. God Bless you and your family. 🇺🇸 Engineer's Lead the Way! Hooah!
You are dammm gorgeous
Hi Sonya where are you from?
Every time I watch this, I'm good until the Veteran's walk out onto the stage. The look of amazement on the soldier's face says so much! The Salute always brings that pain in my throat, trapped tears I call em.
Thank you to each and every one of the men and women, past, present and future who give of themselves so selflessly so that I can continue to have the rights you all have fought for!
Been out 23 years and I'm still a soldier.
Thank u for your service
Working on 8 years for me. And I’m also still a soldier.
Respect

Love this song 🧡🇺🇲🧡🇺🇲🧡
First time hearing this song. What a great tribute to all the veterans. We may get out but that pride stays with us the rest of our lives. I've been out since 2003 and it's still in me of being a soldier. 🇺🇲
When I hear this song, I realize the deep and sincere connection between country music and the hearts of those who listen to it. To all the American soldiers who fought to defend freedom over tyranny: thank you very much!!
my grandpa, dad and husband are all soldiers and i can't be more proud of them. beautiful song great lyrics i love it so much 💟
How are you and your family doing hope you've all been vaccinated.
OEF veteran hearing this for the first time and I actually live on Dogwood Dr in Nashville Georgia. Pretty cool!
I was there that night when he recorded it for once I felt America settled as one nation and stood up for what we believe in
Damn that's cool bud wish I was there bud
That must have been awesome
man this song hits home! I'm an Iraq Veteran.... I am a Superintendent for a construction company now that I am out. I have the army veteran sticker on my car and an Iraq veteran sticker on my hard hat....how cool. I feel like someone finally gets me!

As a Mexican born law abiding immigrant, I got so much too thank all of you soldiers. A job great done.
We dont just get you we love you!
Enrolled early this year. Gonna be a soldier forever.
Before I left the German Federal Naval forces I hadn't understood my former CO who said: Once a soldier everytimes a Soldier.
Now I understand it. I am an ex NCO and proud mom of a daughter who just became a medical Officer of the German Navy
@Trace Adkins Hey Mr. Adkins, yes it is okay. I still like your songs ("you gonna miss this" became one of my favorite songs).
Ist irgendwie tatsächlich so
From an American, thank you and your daughter for your service.
I hope she stays safe and returns to her family at the end of her tour.
God bless all who have served and those who are wearing our country's uniform today
