I remember seeing this years ago thinking one day I will get my license and a tw200. Today I have a tw and put more miles on it then my car. Thank you for helping to inspire me to enjoy life more.
Did a similar trip with my two sons and a friend of theirs up north in Quebec. I had a kickstart only DR650, my youngest son a Super Sherpa 250, his friend a TW200 and my older son a TTR225. Four days of awesome trails and good times. Thanks for letting me relive it through your video.
TW200 can't be compared to any other bike on the market. You might call it a "street legal Rokon". They are for EXPLORING, real overland travel, not blasting around dirt circles at 85mph. It will get you further into the outback than any other machine- and get you out- with all your gear. If you're dissing TW, its because you don't understand the bike.
I agree. I have a DR650 and a TW200. I will never sell either bike, but if the situation gets muddy or sandy the DR650 is no match for this small killer bike. It's a real "Break In Case Of Emergency" motorcycle.
I second that emotion with my 03 TW from out here in Montana! I also have a 95 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 Atv that is equally reliable! With these two machines I can go pretty much anywhere the majority of the year, I just need a Yamaha Viking utility snowmobile (which will be my next acquisition) and I'll have the deep midwinter weeks covered as well and then I'll truly be 365 days a year backcountry mobile!
I got an 89' T Dub in 93' for $600 cause it had a oil leak the guy said HAD to be fixed. I park it with a pan under it. 21 years, still runs great road and trail.

@garanater I have had nothing but problems with mine since I bought it brand new in 2007. After multiple repairs, rebuilds...I am finally parting it out. Go with the Suzuki DR200 if this is your price range. You'll be much happier in the long run if you want something that can be used as a commuter.
I have had my 1989 tw 200 since 1996..no major repairs.. 10k miles..I have added a small windshield this year and am looking forward to riding on the east side of Washington state this year!. Stunning scenery. Is this Idaho? I was in Idaho in 1977 for 3 months as an 8yr old kid, perhaps one of the most majestically, beautiful areas on earth?
I used one of these during my CMSP course, and I really liked te bike. Poor thing was very beat up but it’s a very forgiving and easy to ride bike, as well as all the people praising its reliability. At first I thought “they’re all gonna be shitty beat up bikes” and while mine was beat up, it was actually a really cool bike.
That's about right for a 2019 model as we near the end of this year. I haven't yet heard what they're going to be asking for a 2020 yet but I'm sure they'll be announcing it it any week now. My best guess is $4700 give or take a hundred bucks!
good so excited to see that, never think TW 200 can run lik the motorcross bike, yamaha is a good company, design engine, design leexus LFA, u guy is tall run on this bike, can run Dakar, no need KoM bike, this ground clearing 10.5in XT 250 11.2 is good enough the difficult mountain, i am 5.2' 27 inseert leg, is good enough for me. happy to know that, a lot of difficult trail can run on that. good luck.
@kj7687 That said, when the TW wasn't having problems, it was a lot of fun to ride and very capable off road (as long as you go really slow). Highway with stock gearing is terrible, 60 mph is reasonably doable if you change the gearing (also doable with the stock gearing on the Suzuki). Good luck with your decision.
@YoungAmericanOutback She gets up to about 70 on the flat. I little faster with a slight downhill. About 4,000 new. I'd get a used one. They are reliable and have not changed in design/technology in years.
Awesome Video!! I'm in the market for an enduro, this looks awesome off road, how does this bike preform on the highway? Top Speed, Gas Milage, Price, etc.
Top speed on mine with a slightly geared down sprocket is 55 for cruising although it prefers 52 or less for long stints and while I can hit 60 I won't do it for more than a minute or so max because the motor's really screaming at that speed. With stock gearing you should be able to cruise at 55 fairly comfortably with the ability to hit 65-70 for short little spurts but you won't want to press it above 60 for more than a minute or so unless you gear it up but then that will take away the low speed tractability of the bike on slow technical trails. As far as MPG's go I know that most people report getting mid to high seventies or even into the 80's, I average about 72 but I ride mine quite hard 90% of the time so it's pretty good really. For price I know that 7 years ago they were going for around $3500-3700 brand new and now here in 2019 I think that they're selling them for around $4600 new give or take a few hundred dollars. Blame it on the Japanese yen American dollar fluctuations but mostly on general inflation for the price hikes which are typically $100-$200 a year. A used one can run between $800-$4400 dollars depending on year condition and mileage. My 03 TW probably sold in the low $3000 range when it was new that year but I bought it around 09 with just under 2000 miles on it for a real nice price of $1750 when I was living in Idaho but in other parts of the country it might have been going for a thousand more than that in the nice condition it was in. Happy hunting if you go looking for a used one, there are a lot of 'em out there as they've been produced almost continuously, with the exception of a few years in the 90's, since 1987!
@kj7687 I've been using and abusing my DR200 for three years and have never had a problem with it that wasn't easy and cheap to fix. Just watch the oil level, change the oil and filter every thousand miles, keep up on valve adjustments and regular maintenance and you'll be happy with it.
We love our 2000 TW. It's an excellent bike for beginners, as well as for shorter people. My wife and son both love it. I like it for short jaunts around the neighborhood. It's not really a great "dual purpose" bike though as it lacks the horses to get you around town, at least not above 40 mph (unless you enjoy the sound of an engine screaming at high revs). Riding on the street with those big tires is also not practical. Since we frequently ride on national forest dirt roads (which require a licensed, street legal machine), it serves its purpose very well. The big tires also make riding in sandy areas much easier. I ride a street legal Honda XR 400 and there's just no comparison, off or on-road. If you want a serious dirt bike, or something you can also drive around town, you should look at something with more displacement. If Yamaha made this bike with a 400cc motor, I'd be buying one for myself.
This comment is so true just test drive one on roads 40+ before you buy or there will be regrets. But for what it is it's awesome it loves being in the woods just a different pace than mx bikes its really in a class of its own i love mine but still find myself wanting a more streetable bike. But ill never give up the tw so might need a cruiser to the collection. If you had one option tho i think itd be a tenere t7 that bike looks nimble in woods and monster when needed to put power down.
TW's gives you a peace of mind like no other. You have the most reliable engine, most grip for trail bike, low gearing to insure you can crawl up places few others dare. If your a speed freak, look for something else.
Not in the trials bike category. It's too heavy. It's a dual sport road/ trail bike. I use this bike for multi-day trips in the steep single track mountains of Utah. It's geared really low and easy to maneuver but a little heavy.
Im 17 years old and thinking about getting this bike for a daily commuter to work and school and then hittin up the trails on weekends...would you recommend this bike?
How does she do in the sand. I have a Yamaha XT225 and I have to let almost all the air out of both front and rear tires to be able to control it here in our Michigan sandy trail system.
It does great in the sand with those fat tires, pretty good in the snow to up to about a half a foot! Far better on spongy dinky low traction terrain than any other dirt bike save for a Suzuki VanVan 200 which has the same type of tire width. If you ride in the sand a lot and would also like to tackle some mud and snow on occasion to, then the TW or the Van Van are the bike you want!

Just watch the oil level, change the oil and filter every thousand miles, keep up on valve adjustments and regular maintenance and you'll be happy with it.
ooohhh shiiittt I might be picking one up today!!!
Me and the boys have had a dozen of these bikes. Conclusion Go anywhere bulletproof low seat confident machine!!!! Hard to kill them we have tried!
Im 17 years old and thinking about getting this bike for a daily commuter to work and school and then hittin up the trails on weekends...would you recommend this bike?
Yes absolutely!
