I'd say there is a better way - by creating just one smart component. Create a component named "tree" and inside it insert a high poly 3d tree, 2.5d face-me tree and a 2d representation for a plan view with the same axis origin. Then assign the inserted models to a specific layer and scene with only layers control and viola! You have yourself the ability to change the LOD at any time and simplify the creation of CD in LayOut.

Can you do a tutorial about making elevated terrain with hills and pits, and stuff like that. You know close to how the terrain of that park looks like in this video

I think it's a great tip and pretty simple.

This isn't really proxies. More like hacking "feel like" proxies. You always need to replace them manually.. will you guys just add proper proxies or xref support?? It's 2018 waiting for this since 2008. At least Thea render has this built in properly..

@Aaron Bishop what grass texture are using? It looks great, most grass textures I have used have a heavy grid like appearance.
    Thanks.

Hi there, What about adding complex components (Trees here) to a separate layer so we can hide them and gain a better performance

Thanks for sharing. As previous viewers have commented, this video long due and it is an issue which we hope Trimble will take to heart. For there to be any serious modelling of large assemblies, rendering time could be reduced considerably with the right approach. Trimble might consider:
    1) we need proper proxies
    2) we need low-to-high, recent-to-old, sorted list when we search in 3D warehouse, so that we can pick the most appropriate models for our creations. All sales web sites have them for prices, why doesn't 3D Warehouse have them for model sizes?
I've got my own library sorted that way and it works extreme well for complex creations. An example for this approach may be seen here 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/2bd5ecd5b7dfe48f74499a543081c292/TUDOR-TOWN
