  • Purina ONE was introduced in 1986 and was Purina’s first venture into the world of super-premium pet food. It’s marketed as a natural brand and features what Purina calls high-quality ingredients, claiming that these better ingredients can lead to better health. With so many other Purina brands to choose from, how is Purina ONE different and how does it compare to its siblings in the Purina family?
    That’s what we’re discussing in today’s video. Stay tuned to get all the details.
    Note: I made a mistake in the original edit of this video, calling caramel color an artificial color and saying that the FDA classifies it as potentially carcinogenic. This was a misinformed statement, and I am deleting it from the video. It may take several hours for this change to appear. In the meantime, you can refer to this FDA article on caramel color and 4-MEI: www.fda.gov/food/food-additiv...

    I am on a quest to find a higher quality wet food for my senior kitizen who is 13-14 years old. The latest brand I've tried is I and Love and You pate by PetsGlobal which is also the maker of the Tiki Cat brand. My cat initially devoured all three offerings in the I and Love and You variety pack (chicken, turkey and cod), but now only loves the cod and turns her nose up at the chicken and turkey. Fortunately I can purchase the cod in the individual cans. I may try the Purina One line and see how she likes it. Thanks Mallory for another stellar cat food review!

    I used to have 5 beautiful rescued cats, whom I fed with "Purina sensitive skin and stomach" dry food.
    They were all 5 fine on this food for several years.
    Then Purina changed the ingredients, but failed to change the *ingredient list on the package* of this food for at least 3 months after the ingredient change. Now I have 3 beautiful rescued cats still living.
    You do the math.
    I will never use Purina again.

    i use to buy my cat what i thought was good quality cat food and it was twice as much as Purina One brand. i've switched to PO and my cat eats it like he's addicted to it. I can no longer afford the higher priced cat food and I'm hoping PO will not cause issues like some of these mega producers products can; like urinary tract infections. Thank you for a great video with very helpful info.

    First of all, I find the recommended dry cat food from this channel completely unaffordable. But my cats love Purina One Tender Selects. Chicken is their favorite. They just won't eat anything else. I will try the can version of Purina One but I'll have to mix it in with the kibble because they won't eat wet food on its own.

    The Purina One Healthy Kitten Chicken and Salmon Recipe Pate (gotta love these labels) ingredients are chicken, liver, chicken broth, pork lungs, salmon, natural flavors, followed by a list of mostly vitamins and minerals. I say mostly because they snuck in guar gum into the list. Not too bad though, having basically all meat for the solid ingredients.
    I noticed something missing though, and that’s DEA, which is important for the developing brain and nervous system. The cheaper Fancy Feast Kitten Pate has it, so I don’t know why it’s left out of this.
    My kitten eats it but not as enthusiastically as the Fancy Feast. Sometimes I wish she could just tell me what to give her.

    I will ALWAYS go for urinary health varieties of store cat food. Most store varieties cause serious issues with a cats urinary tract later in life, so it’s best to snag that variety if need be. That being said, I was always using Iams urinary health food, cats were great! Great poops, no issues yadda yadda. Well our store seemingly stopped carrying it, so we tried Purina One urinary tract health food. We have 4 cats and they all puke from it. A watery slimy puke. All of them. I was searching online and can’t seem to find anything! So odd. Since they’ve been back on iams (had to order online lol), they’ve been back to great again!

    Dry food makes me nervous but once again I have 6 cats to feed,
    I also have a 20 yr robust female who prefers dry food over wet.
    I would dearly love to put them on raw food diet or freeze dried cat food program or at the very least a high protein low carb cat food.
    I well understand my cats are carnivore's and would never deny them meat,however I want no part of the rabbit meat trade so any non rabbit suggestions would be great.
    My issue is some of the prices I see out there are really really pricey for a person with 6 cats.
    I am looking for a good option that I can buy in bulk and does not require a chef to prepare.
    A healthy option with a price point that is cost effective and reasonable but no so cheap it compromise's nutrition.

    I bought my cats canidae the freeze dried one. Two of them wouldn't touch it and I witnessed one cat spit it out. Three of my cats are seniors. They are now eating Iams. (That is what I could get in a pinch from a DG near me) I don't think it is the best food but they are doing good.
    I also don't get the argument anymore of "corn being bad" considering they just replace it with potatoes, and mad fruiits. Corn is less then rice, and potatoes on the glycemic charts I have read. Also less then some fruits they throw in cat food. So, is corn actually THAT bad? I feel like it was a marketing tool to modernize the pet food industry

    • @AllAboutCatsYT
      @AllAboutCatsYT  3 года назад +2

      As far as I can tell, you're spot-on regarding corn. Corn, other grains, and other sources of carbohydrates are not necessarily bad for cats-they're just not necessary, and there's some evidence that consuming a high-carb diet may have negative health effects. Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

    • @PrimrosesAtelier
      @PrimrosesAtelier 3 года назад +5

      The problem with corn, potatos, rice and other grains and starches is that its just fillers, it doesnt give any nutritional value to cats. Not only that, but grains and starches make the glycemic index skyrocket in cats, in some cases can cause diabetes. High carb intake can also damage their pancreas. Of course, genetics can also be a factor for certain diseases but if a cat is healthy, in my opinion, its best to avoid cat food that has those as ingredient.

    Myy cat is so fussy, won't eat just anything, I adopted her 3 weeks ago, she was abandoned by her previous family at a clinic, she had UTI.
    I am carefully trying to add good quality wet food to her c/d but she's refusing most of it, she eats Core mostly, but I noticed that she's itching her skin sometimes, the clinic said she's over affectionate cat, well she is very beautiful soul and loving, but I doubt that's the issue.
    I am so lost and my heart is breaking for her, not sure what her previous family fed her. It seems like she has food allergies to me, although the clinic fed her purine essential one for seniors she's 2.5 yrs old, but because it was the only wet food that she accepted most the time.
    Please help.

      Hi there! I apologize for the late reply, but I'm happy to see that you've gotten some good input from others. What you're feeding your ferals right now sounds great to me. If it's available to you, you may want to consider Kirkland's Daily Maintenance dry food as an alternative to the Purina Complete. It's an economical choice that seems to include somewhat superior ingredients.

      Wile I did recommend it in the best budget food video, I have to say now that Purina ONE is quite comparable to the Kirkland food, and I might even lean towards it in some cases due to the fact that the manufacturer of Kirkland food (Diamond) has been involved in multiple recalls in recent years, and while of course, Purina has also been involved in a few recalls, it seems to have a relatively clean history compared to Diamond.

    @All about Cats: At beginning, you said Purina1 dry, was 16c-30c/day. Then you go on to state that the wet food would run $2/day. You then showed, (Amazon, I assume,) a price list of 24 cans @ $18 something. So a single can is . 79c. You feed your cat 2 1/2cans a day?
    I think giving a daily cost is not an effective tool vs, say, a serving size. 🙋

      Yes, depending on the size of your cat.. most tins of pate cat food run between 170-190 calories.. a 12 pound cat at 30 calories per pound equals 320 calories per day.. that's about a tin and a half per day..

    Tried a box of this Purina ONE wet food (opted against the dry ones too starchy) ruclips.net/video/Sk_bGuYb5Ak/видео.html seemed semi decent but couldn't help but wonder why is wheat gluten in the top 5 ingredients. And it’s funny how they call this box of Purina One "True Instinct" when the real brand Instinct by Nature's Variety makes a much better, higher quality wet cat food. I found this box of Purina One very watery, obviously fake food coloring and the textures were just like fancy feast. Really what's the difference between the box of purina one wet food my cat gobbled up in a week and fancy feast shreds in gravy or some crap like that...seems like the same thing with a different name

    • @AllAboutCatsYT
      @AllAboutCatsYT  3 года назад +2

      I'm not a fan of the wheat gluten, either. Their True Instinct foods consistently contain this ingredient, which seems to be included to help give structure to the formed meat used in the "shreds". Wheat gluten also likely bumps up the protein content, which is arguably a cheap way to do that.

      Right with such poor quality ingredients especially the dry line of purina one I thought you'd rate it C at best from seeing your other product ratings.
