Yes, I thought I was making a good choice, but now I’m gonna look into different brands. Watched some reviews and plan on looking into what my cat would enjoy. She throws up dry chicken Fancy Feast quite some. And she doesn’t like pate, loves flaked chicken recipes I also buy salmon... My previous cats ate a lot of human food. Last cat had diabetes and it broke my heart when the doctor said we had to put him to sleep, so I stopped feeding my cats human food. None of my family members ever researched cat food and even gave cats milk as a treat :( I am definitely very grateful for your channel and experience with expertise!

I had a cat who lived for 20 years. He was very active up until the last few weeks of his life. I picked him up at a shelter when he was a kitten. After trying a few products recommended by a vet, I bought some Fancy Feast tins. My cat loved them. It got to the point where he could recognize the sound of the Fancy Feast tins being opened and not other tins like the small tins of tuna. Every year the vet said the same thing. Cat's healthy and his weight is good so keep feeding him that good vet food. I never told him that I fed him Fancy Feast. And my cat didn't rat me out, either. His favourite was the one with ocean fish. Second was the salmon pate. But he would eat any of them without having digestive issues.

    • @midlife_minimalist

My vet said Fancy Feast is a actually a really good choice. My cats were on it from the rescue and there was no going back. I would prefer they leave out the artificial colorants in some flavors and any artificial flavor. And animal by products aren’t bad. Animals eat everything in the wild except maybe the bones. Humans are the ones that have an issue with them. Organs have tremendous nutritional value.

I'm in poverty. While I wish I could afford higher quality meats ,it's better I feel feed this than just dry food. My cat loves the gravy lovers. I'll occasionally buy some higher end foods, but with inflation, I can barely afford to feed myself organic, quality foods. I appreciate the you don't shame people for not feeding super expensive foods, as some channels do. There's a lot of people barely getting by and doing their best. As a disabled person, in isolation, in a low income apartment, my cat is my only reason to live. I shouldn't be shamed for no longer being able to afford raw

This! I've been on poverty my whole life and taken care of cats on pretty cheap foods we just rotate them and my parents use any food bank meats they don't want to eat or can't use in time to feed the cats fish, lamb, chicken, ham etc. With their rotating foods, and it's never been something I thought a lot about because we couldn't afford to go to the vet and usually adopted our indoor cats already with shots and spayed/neutered (or took them ourselves and the neuter clinic would give them shots as an add on)
And I always feel like crap when a channel shames me for not being able to afford the science diet stuff that's up to 60$-85$ for a big bag when it comes to dry! I try to buy the fancy feast combo packs at least because I don't like to give my cat a lot of dry food myself (I always mix it with some water anyways)

Fancy Feast helped get our boy into diabetic remission. He’s now diet controlled with Fancy Feast Classic pates. I know some people dislike the cheaper store brands due to by products and what not. I believe even Dr. Lisa Pearson argues that by products have gotten a worse reputation than it deserves. While we don’t know the quality, by products typically are parts of an animal that humans wouldn’t eat but a obligate carnivore would.

Vita was eating the more expensive brands of canned cat food, but the results were so variable in terms of quantity she was eating per day, that it wasn’t really benefiting her health. She developed struvite crystals recently because she was also still on kibble (although a small amount). I ended up giving away the remainder of my expensive cans to another pet parent whose bengal kitty really appreciated it. I went out to purchase a variety of Fancy Feast, including pates, that did not include fish as a main ingredient (she doesn’t like fish in wet food). These cans were about a dollar per can. I also continue to purchase Churu tubes for an extra .5 ounce of hydration per tube. I also started to weigh the cat food using a digital kitchen scale before and after she consumed it. She must consume at least 4.5 ounces of wet food per day before she can have even a little bit of dry food (barely grazing the bottom of her kitten sized bowl.). This means that I often give her at least 2 cans of FF, 2 Churu tubes per day because she doesn’t usually eat the entire contents of the can. I also have, as another backup, Whiskas kitten replacement milk. Well, no more blood, no more cat accidents. Her clumps are totally normal, for the fourth day in a row. She seems more energetic, although that is hard to measure.

My cats have been eating FF for a few years now. I used to purchase Wellness until the cost, for me, was too much. They don't like the medley at all won't go near any of that. They love, love the Chunky Chicken, it's a favorite. One cat is an outdoor friendly feral and a senior indoor cat both will eat FF with no issues. Senior cats usually have plenty of issues but eating FF isn't one of them. I've tried the toppers and they wouldn't touch that either. I've donated a lot of food to the local shelter over the years. Sometimes it comes down to what is affordable and FF fills that bill in my household for the kitties.

My cat is almost 20 he can't chew kibble anymore, and he has digestion issues, I can only give him one little teaspoon of fancy feast every 20 minutes to an hour apart till he gets through at least a 3 ounce and 1/2 can a day, or he will throw it up, he won't even eat the half rice and chicken breast I prepare for him even though I cook the rice in chicken stock, but he absolutely loves fancy feast, and tuna juce on the side, it may not be ideal, but he's living a long happy life, he loves us and can't bear to be separated from us for long, he's a clingy affectionate boy.

I never would have ever considered this brand but I had to take over care of my Dad's senior cat when he went into memory care. I basically had to bring her back from the brink of death and diabetes. I couldn't afford the Vet wet food and tried so many types at Petsmart and my vet told me to try the kitten version seafood pates along with a bit of dry of Taste of the Wild. He gets the turkey varieties that FF has). I feed the Purina True Instinct grain free dry food free choice and canned several times a day. Having one very picky cat and 3 not very picky ones, I find that FF is cheap and good enough for everyone. I am a licensed vet tech, and believe that cats should be fed a primarily wet food diet and I've never had an issue with FF ever, including w clients at the Animal Hospital. I find that most cats like at least a few of the flavors and will readily eat it. I can't really recommend the dry food, but for a decent, cheaper spectrum cat food, you can't really go too wrong with FF.

I'm aware vets don't know too much about nutrition but you should use common sense here. As a pet nutritionist, I've never seen a pet "thrive" on Fancy Feast. It's cheap quality and they can't even name what animal source the meat is because it's poor quality cuts thrown into a blender. I've only seen cheap food like this only and frankly, anything Purina, cause allergies. Looking for cheap price food that's still decent? Look at Taste of the Wild, FirstMate and Weruva. But if you really care about your pet why are you feeding it low quality grocery store food in the first place? Would you feed your human child unidentified meats that are dyed? Didn't think so.

Have you seen the recall history on those brands? They have been contaminated with literal poison. Brands like Purina literally been found to contain PENTOBARBITOL. Do you know what that is used for? EUTHANIZING CATS AND DOGS. They also use completely unnamed meats in their food. That is dangerous for dogs with allergies and also very suspicious considering they have no idea what the meat even is. Would you eat completely unidentified meats? Didn't think so, so why feed such low quality to your pet if you love them? I find it so hilarious you mention one of the worst brands of foods to claim they're so great. Iam's for example, worst of all, has had 7 recalls in 6 years for unsafe and unsanitary practices from salmonella to literal mold and toxin contaminations. You're okay with that? You're deluded.
Now let's look at good brands you say are unbacked and are garbage. The ones I've mentioned in the previous comment are decent, not a big fan of TOTW but it's better than any grocery store food. Farmina, works with the oldest pet nutrition college in the world, completely vet made, not a single recall since they started in the 60's. Nulo, another started by a vet, recall free and uses extremely high quality ingredients. Instinct is a brand that works with the University of Helsinki and Dr. Anna Björkman and has a vets make all their recipes. My vet literally feeds Open Farm (another recall free btw) which is a super ethical company that you can trace your single bag of food back to it's farm it came from. You know where your brands would trace back to? The floor of a disgusting unethical factory in CHINA.
You said it yourself, "do proper research." You're a nobody. Wake up, you're brainwashed. Also look up what a monopoly is because that should explain everything. Royal Canin (M&M company) literally owns VCA, Bluepearl, and Banfield. Candy companies own your vet and the food. K?

Fancy feast has changed their food I think. My cat loves grilled gravy lovers. I noticed the cans now have big pieces that isn’t cut very well like before. Also noticed beef feast grilled in gravy is no longer a dark color. Even the label is different,it used to say turkey feast in gravy in one sentence but now it says turkey feast on top and gravy on bottom.

I reached out to Purina to get the full break down on the artificial ingredients in their flavor enhancer is considered a "proprietary blend" and they will NOT disclose this to you as the consumer/pet owner. You can try toppers to increase palatablility too like goats milk, bone broth, freeze dried raw and treats. Tripe is also really awesome. Tripe is stinky but with cats it's important to note that stinkier is better and can increase appetite and appeal of food. You can even gently warm the food in the microwave to bring out the smell. Cats are not Carnivores in the wild cats sat grasses seeds / insects and other interesting things some times not so good but live well in to there adult life and
really never get to old age the cat is homes with a good wide amount of things to
eat live 10 to 20 years the Key here in that cats need to eat many things not just
Dry foods this video is interesting and no cats do not do well with carbs.
    Thank you

I've been a cat person my whole life but this is the first time I've bought fancy feast dry. My cats just not eating it. Or the wet. He loves beechnut & gerber baby meats.

Lots of cats do, but make sure it's not your cat's sole source of nutrition-baby food is not nutritionally complete for cats.

I noticed that you were feeding your cat in a plastic bowl. I feed my cats on ceramic plates that I bought at our Good Will for only .50 cents a plate. That way they don't get any allergies from the plastic. Also they drink water from metal bowls like stainless steel.

I guess the TLDR is don't feed your cat fancy feast wet food but if the alternative is only dry food, it's better than that. I was also surprised that it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

Would you do a review of Fancy Feast Naturals ? That seems to be their healthier line of food.

Hey Jacqueline, thank you for your comment! We're planning to cover a broad variety of brands in the future and will certainly consider reviewing the Naturals line.

Interesting review. However, I do not agree on recall history score. With no recall, you should have given 10 out 10, not 6. Also, I wonder how you can give 3 out of 10 for quality of ingredients if you don't know the ingredients used.
