I love, love, love this conversation
Kayla is a RUclipsr and psychotherapist in training and has a beautiful channel called On the Line on RUclips. After receiving her own diagnosis, she set out to educate others about this often misunderstood mental disorder
There are many psychologists and experts who talk about BPD, but I was drawn to Kayla and wanted to talk to her because she is so open and clear in how she presents the information, and because she has had a unique journey of having BPD and is now on her way to becoming a therapist!!!!
We talked about many topics that are not often discussed publicly, such as
    - What is quiet BPD? What are the subtypes of BPD?
    - Is Borderline Personlaity Disorder a diagnosis or an identity?
    - Can you become a therapist if you have had BPD?
    - BPD empathy paradox - I think it's a misconception that people with BPD lack empathy, why is that? Do people with BPD have high or low empathy?
You can tell I was really engaged throughout the whole conversation, I feel blessed to be able to share Kayla’s journey with you. I hope you will get something from this!!

People with BPD know what empathy is not the same as having it!

I have heard that many therapists have their own mental issues. Some may even be narcissists. I think those of us who come from difficult places are drawn to psychology, and it certainly seems realistic to apply what we learn about ourselves to helping others.

I had so many friends in junior college that were psych majors and many of them had their own issues.

Low, effectively. Meaning, when it matters.
They can be sooooo empathetic with everyone and everything but when it counts, when you have the tiniest issue with them, it's gone, you are now talking to an an angry robot. They will devalue your entire existence just to avoid responsibility.
So yeah but no. No empathy. Not for you.

They will expect you to accommodate them regardless if they are running hot or cold that moment. And expect you to read their mind to accommodate their emotional needs. They swear they are mind readers themselves but misread neutrality as anger or disgust and pain as anger. They act like they are a prosecution lawyer building a case. While they are doing these things, they can't seem to get the fact that you deserve to be treated with understanding when you need them to support you while you are struggling and actually have communicated it to them. Empathy is conditional.

@@Ace7of7CupsI see no point in commenting this bs , when people who come to this video want to gain a deeper understanding to themselves

I was diagnosed as borderline 10 years ago.
I believed that I was HSP and an empath
Now I know that I'm just borderline and a benign narcissist.
I hate my parents for doing this to me
    I hate myself
I feel like I'm doomed to fail over and over again.
    I hate being borderline.
I'm 55 and have been through hell and trying to heal but it's obviously a waste of time.
I have an attention seeking reactive personality, which I believe is the worst type of borderline possible. It's just a small step away from narcissism.

    Projection is empathy's evil twin

Some people with BPD have toxic positively and do not have true empathy. Theres a number of them that only see their struggles but refuse to acknowledge and give others a break.

Indeed just an umbrella ‘BPD’ alone cannot describe everyone who identifies with it.

I don't think empathy determines your character. Empathy is about insight into others. It's how you process what your intuition says that matters. Coming from a family where there was chaos and abuse, it's an awful feeling to have eyes on you and you know the person is perceptive but a bully, gossip, or is filing it away for when you definitely fuck up from their perspective.

    DBT is just information.
It doesn't change the damaged brain, our reactions are not a choice.
DBT just makes you feel guilty and points out your faults.
I have spent thousands of pounds and hours trying to change. Therapists can't be there every time you are suffering.
I have also tried NHS therapy and group learning in Britain. and it was more harmful than helpful.
NHS therapists are just quoting from the book and have no real interest in helping us to develop our skills.
3 therapists have dropped me because my needs were too 'Complex'
The competent, caring therapist is an extremely rare thing.
Im 55 years old and have been in and out of therapy for 10 years.

I hear you. The lack of understanding resources and the system failure are terribly frustrating :(
