- "Distant Drums" is a song which provided US singer Jim Reeves with his only UK No. 1 hit - albeit posthumously - in the United Kingdom in 1966, some two years after his death in a plane crash on 31 July 1964. The song remained in the UK Singles Chart for 25 weeks. The single also topped the US country chart for four weeks, becoming his most successful posthumous single.

Jim Reeves was a singer much like you are a guitar player. He sang without any effort, and you appear to play the same way. Some people seem to be exactly what they were supposed to be. I thoroughly enjoyed this my friend. As a young man, I could often be heard singing this song. Not nearly as well as you play it, but I liked to try. Stay safe my UK friend.
Contrary to appearances i have to work at it. I will never be a great guitarist, but i try to put something together that is entertaining.

Love the tonal changes as you play. Every change allows you to be creative--to make this song 'your own'! As usual, the music you produce is beautiful!
I also love the horse--your onscreen companion. He's there for the time you'll leave to follow those 'distant drums'. The lyrics remind me of a "It's Now Or Never" situation faced by Mary. Apparently, the 'singer' will leave at a moment's notice when enticed by the temptation of adventure. During our "Wild West' times, many men distinguished themselves--became nationally known--because of their ability to leave 'at the drop of a hat'. That restlessness and flexibility helped to create this country. I wonder if Mary will marry him for a few precious moments:-) At any rate, this is a memorable song. Thanks for sharing it!!!
Perhaps "It's Now or Never" would work as an instrumental Von! It's on an ever growing list, but i don't think i will live long enough.😊
The ability to leave, seems a very short time period in modern times, before we weigh ourselves down with responsibilities.

I am still mesmerized by discovering that just THREE of his hand-picked revelations, 1/. The Last Of The Mohicans: 2/. Apache, and 3/. Ghost Riders In The Sky, between-them clocked in excess of 100:000:000 views. I'll repeat that number, replacing the 'numerals' with words, 'ONE HUNDRED MILLION'. That number is greater than the combined populations of half-a-dozen countries - GO, GEOFF, GO. - Jed.

Dear Friend: I turned 74 on 1-27-24. I believe you are 77 as of 12-29-23. I have had severe bronchitis since 1-12. Very difficult to get rid of. I have a gal that comes once a week to help clean. Beautiful choice of songs and excellent guitar work, Geoff! The song was written by the great Cindy Walker and first released by Roy Orbison in 1963. The Jim Reeves hit rendition was released posthumously, as you noted, in 1966. Helen is gonna love this! :)
