- Music & Lyrics: Francis McPeake.First recording: 1957 by McPeak's nephew, also named Francis McPeake. The song was originally named Wild Mountain Thyme but is also known as "Purple Heather" and "Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go?"
The Clancy Brothers recorded the song in 1962 and Ed Sheeran recorded it in 2013 with many other artists in between, including The Mudmen, Judy Collins, Sarah Moore, The Irish Tenors, Phil Coulter, Brogue, The Corries, John McDermott, The Irish Rovers, The Chieftans, The High Kings and many more.

This song, for those who are interested, came out in 1967. The song is, therefore, 57 years old in 2024. The math ain't mathin' for some of us. It is a great song. I loved it when I was in high school in 1969. I am 72, just for reference. I guess maybe it was a re-release or something for those who say it was a song they came of age with.

Hello Geoff. Once again you've taken me back home, this time with a beautiful rendition of Wild Mountain Thyme, so beautiful in fact that it makes me wonder if you have more than just a hint of the Scottish highlands in you. I haven't heard this tune for so many years (been away from Scotland for nearly 70 years now), but listening to this has taken me back to the times when I walked accross the fields of heather with my patents and brother on Sunday afternoons. What a joy that ws then, and what a joy to be reminded of those times by your beautiful rendition of Wild Mountain Thyme. It would have brought my mother to tears. Thank you so much my friend, and thank you God, for the wonderful gift He has given you. Bless you.

Beautifully done my friend. You bring out my Irish roots when you play that sort of music. My Grandmother on my father's side was mostly Irish. My father's father was probably full-blooded Englishman, and my mother's side was From Wales. Which doesn't mean much when it comes to music, but I still love yours.
