These videos pop up often. It sparks one of my favorite memories. I had just turned 18, and I was in a bar/hang out near the college. 1972. The first time I ever heard a pedal steel guitar. The first time I heard Ghost Riders in the Sky. The magic of that sound and the song caught my heart in a way that I had never felt before. I always listen. Thanks.
When I was a kid there was a barber shop ran by an old black gentleman. In between customers he would sit and play his pedal steel in the front window. Been in love with it ever since. Great going my good man.
In the 60s and early 70s my Stepfather loved two things, PBR and Country Music. Most of the "real" country had steel guitar in it back then. Your playing took me back to cane poles and transistor radios. Loved it.
So beautiful and clean! And emotional. It brought back memories of my father-in-law playing and singing this song on his guitar. We'd learn and play songs from each other's generation. Just wonderful memories. Thank you.

Here again after 2 years and I am still mind blown! You make is to easy looking. I tried it on my 6 string with a bottle neck but... nah..., you just can't compare it to a pedal steel! Two different worlds. This instrument has its raison of existance. I like David Gilmour very much. But I LOVE him when he sits down and plays his pedal steel!
Who are the people who are disliking it? Can’t fathom their reason ? This guy is not talking anything you could disagree with, just sharing his skill ! What’s with people nowadays ?

I have to say, this brought back a lot of memories of when I was a youngster in Illinois back in the 60's and 70's. My father played guitar in a band and they had a fantastic Steel player. I used to love hearing him play. He kind of gave their band their signature sound. They were a great band. I believe they played together for close to 15 yrs before we moved to Arizona. The steel player eventually moved close. The whole band is pretty much gone to that great band in the sky now, but this sure was nice to hear! Thanks for posting it!!

I'm 70. I was a kid when my Dad taught me Ghost Riders on his old flat top. I love this so much. I wish I could have learned more and played but now....well it would be hard. Thank you so much for playing this. It meant a lot to me to hear this done with the style that on a steel can give it. Keep on picking please.

For example the #1 Song of 1962 was "Stranger on the Shore"... a clarinet instrumental. It could also be called a "tune" or an "instrumental song".
25 years of trying to play that thing and I never got the style I wanted, then I heard your style and tone, sold mine and went to playing the keyboards.. you are the tops in my book..
Aww... thanks, Jess. Sorry to hear that you quit playing steel. It might be fun to have a lap steel around though. I often pick up my lap steel when I have a few spare minutes. It's so accessible, portable, and lightweight, unlike a pedal steel. Fun to play too.

I remember this song from the early 60’s when my father used to listen to many country western artists. It takes me back to a time when our country seemed invincible, everyone went to church and we pulled together as a nation. My father passed away 15 years ago, our country and its people are at odds with one another, very few family’s go to church anymore and so I now wait for the return of Christ. Blessings to all.
There is something special about hearing this song, and many others played on a lap steel guitar. It's honestly hard to find the right words to describe the feeling I get hearing it played like this. Thanks so much for this video and your others.
Oh how I like this instrument. My first souvenir with it goes back almost 80 years ago, A neighbour was playing so wonderfully. One day he came to our home and played his guitar. I was so impress. Okay, a new pedal steel will cost you $4500. A new student model is over $2000. And he will need an amp, a bar, a tuner, cords, picks, etc… I suggest starting with a 6-string lap steel guitar.

I worked in bars a large part of my adult so I can tell you that steel players are few and far between so it is hard to find a good player. I was told it is one of the most difficult to master. GREAT job!!
