Underrated mic. Actually far from my favourite for recording music, but it is a KILLER live mic. Almost as practical and sturdy as a dynamic mic, but condenser sound quality and high output. Whatever it might lack in frequency pickup in close listening at home or in a studio just translates into no feedback out in the wilds of the live world. Throw the foam windshield that comes with it on and it'll work great outdoors.
That foam also makes it unpop-able and cuts down sibilance for spoken word. I just, just discovered how delicious it can sound up close for spoken word.
It's a bit of an awkwardly large size and that headbasket has a habit of popping off - even in the hard case that came with mine, and that can then screw up the wiring in transit. But still great value for money. I think if Rode marketed it as a stage condenser or even a budget broadcast condenser they could sell a ton of them.
Agree 100%….its a sleeper that no one talks about
You sound so happy to review the M3 mic. Sounded ok even using my iPhone speakers.
Its a pretty cool mic, was one of my keepers till i sold my acoustic guitar
Any chance you will review the Rode NT3 or the AKG C1000S mics? Would be nice to hear these compared.
Eventually
thanks for the demonstration. Just a quick question, did you have the filter active or the flat frequency input when recording?
Flat. I always go flat if it's an option. That being said, I should have also used the filter and where my model wasn't marked (wore off?) I completely forgot it had one 😬
@@ObscureMics gooood man! Male voice can get some pretty nice frequencies around the 70hz range and the filter cuts it sharp at 80
Another forgotten mic: sE Electronics "Magneto" was apparently their entry level offering a couple of years back, 120 bux MSRP, the frequency response looks pretty similar to the AKG Perception 100. Discontinued and I wasn't able to find any offered on eBay but I thought you'd be interested in another mic that's probably quite cheap and looks good for VO.
Is this a request?
@@ObscureMics I'm not looking to buy one (the King Bee is probably better by an order of magnitude) but I am curious about it, why it got discontinued after a short time, and why nobody talks about it even though sE is a reputable brand and it looks really good on paper? I think it would really fit with the theme of your channel.
@Microphones You use a p100 dont you? Or p120?
@@enriquekahn9405 Then i may just get that in!
@Microphones thought so. Your videos are great BTW....I think ive said that, but ill say it again lol
Instrument mics! Have you tried the ISK Pearl? I hear it's awesome for a $30 pencil mic. They also make the Little Gem, which costs more but has interchangeable capsules.
Ooooo I like the sound of that
Is it good for outdoor ambience
I would say yes.
@@ObscureMics thanx bro
Thank YOU for watching
Is there a way to insert a cable that has a USB stick to put in a computer??
Yes. There's XLR to USB cables available anywhere you can buy audio gear
Hey bro, a big shout out from Argentina, and I also think that you make great videos however not much people watch them.
Thank you! A few hundred is a lot to me!
Hi thanks for the review! I want to buy my first mic and I cant decide between the Rode M5 pair or just two M3s. Would you have a recommendation for which one is better?
The m3 is as versatile as it gets... That would by my choice
I wanna hear you do Stewy
Lol I'm not sure if I can but we will find out
