    Your the only person on RUclips who has reacted to this movie that has really understood Paulie's character. Everyone else says they hate him because they just see his violent behaviour on the surface, but you can see the social and emotional issues that he has under the surface. Thank you for a great reaction.

      Yeah its a real shame so many reactors hate on his character and don't really understand the levels to him. He's a pretty complex one and isn't all he often appears to be on the surface.

    Talia Shire (Adrian) was originally in the script, but Stallone felt if she was in it he would have 'no need' to fight. Adrian needed to die for Rocky to have "The BEAST inside him" - the anger he needed to fight again. Talia agreed. But they both ALSO felt she can't die IN the film because the audience would not be able to handle it. She did interviews and press after the film came out and they asked her if she was mad or felt left out of the film, and she said she wasn't mad "The whole film is about ME"

      Absolutely. She was his driving force from the start and is still in this movie. The Rocky Saga had the best and most well-created and developed love story ever made, and it wasn't even supposed to be an out-and-out love story. We saw almost all of it from beginning to the end.

    I was lucky enough to see Rocky in the theatre when I was 6 years old Because my parents couldn’t find a babysitter. I grew up on Rocky. I didn’t always have positive role models, but Rocky always filled the gaps. I’m in my 50’s now and I think EVERY young man should see the Rocky franchise.

    I liked how they had Rocky feel the need to surround himself with friends... not only to have friends, but out also keeps him linked in a way to the past... the guy working in the basement and reading him the Bible was spider Rico from the first movie... that head butted him in that opening club fight lol... Great reaction. Thank you.

    One of the most touching things about this movie, to me, was that they brought back Spider Rico. A minor "throw away character" that nobody would have held it against them if they forgot about him, but instead he's at Rocky's side.

    Rocky’s speech to his son hit me incredibly hard (pun sort of intended) when I saw this in theaters and has stayed with me ever since. Whenever reactors start the Rocky series, I watch them just to see them get to that speech and see how they take it. Say what you want, Sylvester Stallone is a helluva storyteller and his acting is far better than he gets credit for, and in that regard, the dude routinely killed Schwarzenegger, sorry Arny, you might have had the better biceps, but Sly always had the better acting chops 🙂

    one thing I get from Rocky movies, fights, its not about boxing, its about the life fights that we go through in our lives, as you can see at the end of the boxing match, that is not how boxers fight, its the life hits that we take and about how much we can take those hits and keep moving forward, i do watch old Stallone interviews and realize what a big screen play he wrote, also he did direct, before his first Rocky he is saying that he had $100 on his account, nobody wanted to take his screen play and nobody wanted him to play in it, its amazing how it turned out so big and successful, amazing story, amazing life speech, I think that life speech is one of the best if not best speech about the life.

    You have a calmness and mature mien that makes you so enjoyable to watch. A lot of reactors just talk too much or make bad jokes, so this channel is a great respite from that. "Scrappy" was a good description of the dog! :) I agree with you about the fight; I found Dixon underwhelming and out-of-shape soft-looking. They changed the sounds of punches landing too. But it was amazing how Stallone got into shape and pounded those weights. My gosh.

  • @BalokLives
    @BalokLives Год назад +8

    I loved this movie because Rocky went out just as he came in. He just wanted to go the distance and show that he mattered. He did go the distance and tied, both times. It was the perfect bookending for the series. Also, to me it has one of the most inspiring dialogue lines of all time. “It's not about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!"
    The movie isn't as much about the fight for multiple reasons; Rocky was old, and they had to play down the danger because it was an extremely unlikely outcome that could potentially ruin the movie. They had to make this movie more about Rocky's life, and less about the fight. I remember Sylvester Stallone being questioned while being interviewed. They asked how Rocky could possibly fight a champion at his advanced age, and isn't it sort of silly? I remember Mr. Stallone answering something to the effect of 'I wouldn't have done the movie if it didn't make sense for the character. It seemed ridiculous to me that old Rocky could fight someone so young and do well, but I think we came up with a good compromise.' Stallone had to balance the story perfectly, so it didn't come off cheesy and ridiculous.
    Sylvester Stallone is a very smart man. However, the ending is not totally unbelievable because there have been comebacks before. For instance, George Foreman made a career comeback and defeated 26-year-old Michael Moorer at the age of 45. But I'm not aware of anyone ever doing it at Rocky's age. Either way, they made the fight about Rocky's need to 'get rid of the beast.'

    • @shadowphoenix1696
      @shadowphoenix1696 Год назад +1

      Another part that made the fight believable was having Dixon hurt his hand during the fight, which allowed Rocky to have a fairer chance. And go the distance 1 last time.

    • @BalokLives
      @BalokLives 6 месяцев назад

      @@shadowphoenix1696 Exactly. Sylvester Stallone said in an interview that he didn't want to do the movie if it was going to be unbelievable, and so they added that broken hand part. Personally, I think they went a bit overboard with that. Although I like that part because he didn't realize Rocky was such a beast, I feel like there were probably better ways they could have done it. To me it's sort of unfair to Mason Dixon. But it is what it is.

    Rocky was always respected for the character that he displayed while Mason has never been challenged to the point that he's had to display that kind of character. After the Rocky fight, he now understands what character is and he'll be a better champion for it.
    If you haven't watched them yet, the first 2 Creed movies are excellent as well. And imho they do a good job of walking the line between transitioning to a new character story but still having some Rocky feel.

    This film was brilliant in the way that it integrated reality, especially having the actual HBO commentators present . . . Mike Tyson's cameo . . and Joe Cortez, one of the great "real" boxing refs. If Mason Dixon seemed "underwhelming," don't be fooled: he was played by Antonio Tarver, an actual world champion, and one of the best fighters of the early 21st century. Your reaction was a delight! So, he was a fighter before he won Adrian. It doesn't bother me that he was able to fight without her. What changes through the movies is he fights.
    Before Adrian, he just doesn't have anything better to do. He can't get a good job, but he can fight. He's not precisely aimless but neither is he on a success-track. After Adrian, in 2-4, he's fighting for his family. He's trying to be provider, a role model, a success. He has other, individual motivations of course, to move the movies along. Avenging Apollo was maybe one of the strongest ones. I think 5 is often not a favorite because his reason for fighting doesn't feel as pure.
    Now, in Rocky Balboa, after Adrian is gone, he fights one last time. I go back and forth on it, maybe both reasons are right. He fights to let out the beast - his bottled-up grief at Adrian being gone, at his career being done, at his son being estranged (at the time he sought the license and agreed to the fight). It's also a swan song, though, a catharsis that allows him to let go of the past, say goodbye to it, and move on to another future. He's got Marie, who seems interesting. His adult son is basically a new person for him to get to know. And yeah, whether they knew it or not, they pretty nicely set up his role for Creed.

    Why Rocky Balboa is so good. It's the closest to the original Rocky, which won best picture. It has the same grown-up, gritty feel. The other Rockys are more fun to watch with lots of emotional highs and near over-the-top fights that are great to watch but not so realistic. I personally prefer 2.3.4 as well, but recognise Rocky Balboa as a superior movie than the previous installments. I nearly didn't watch it, as I thought Five was a stretch, and yet this one comes many many years after that. So how could it possibly work. I was wrong. The Creed movies are awesome as well.

    Great symmetry to the entire Rocky franchise ... It begins with a split decision "loss" to Apollo Creed and ends with, again, a split decision "loss" to Mason "the Line" Dixon ... and in both bookends Rocky's "victory" is in being able to "go the distance" against fighters who at the time possess superior talent and fighting prowess than Rocky.

    The Rocky series is excellent, because it shows the life of a person we all can identify with in some way. Win or lose, he never let us down.
    I'd implore you to finish the Rambo series, with the caveat that Rambo II isn't really that good, but Rambo III is better, Rambo 2008 is good, and that last one after that was terrible.

    Rocky balboa is a rocky mobie that is not about rocky haha let me explain first of all the whole movie is about adrian, but also is about every character rocky have a relationship, is about the regrets of paul with his sister, is about little marie getting a better life is about robert and he being able to stop feeling like he is under rocky shadow even in the fight aint about rocky is about dixon who finally he was being challenged in a fight n he show them he is a true champion. Rocky is just the way for everyone get their stories

    I think rocky was just trying to hold on to what little was left of him. "You live in a place long enough you become that place". Well, mickeys gym, the ice rink, the pet shop he met adrian at are gone. Adrian is gone and hes kinda losing connection with his son.
