Thanks Jim, super kind! Glad to hear the backhand is going well? Feel free to submit a FREE swing audit when you like? Can maybe help with some other areas?
Almost full extension. Having any tension or the wrist cocked at the contact point does help with more control but there is a big trade-off for power and punch. In this example it's about the release so the elbow should be fully extended (give the ball lots of space) and the wrist I would say about 90-95% released at the contact point.
In the video, you almost used all of your upper body to hit a volley. But when I try to hit backhand volley consecutively with speed, should I mainly be using my wrist and forearm? My elbow kind of hurts practicing volleys too. Is there a way to prevent this? Thank you!
Without seeing it is is hard to tell. Want to submit a free swing audit for me to do? Main point is get spacing right and try and transfer the body weight into the ball. Elbow, forearm and wrist are used but that is only after the body weight transfer. This is the key first step
Never met Jesse but easily the best online coaching videos I've seen. My backhand was awful until I followed his instruction.

Is shape 1 the same as "presentation"? And is it the same as "racket preparation"? Or is shape 1 just the start of the swing?
Good advice
Glad it was helpful!
To what degree should the wrist release to at contact point?
