That is the exact reason why I held back on the air and pulled the trigger on the Mini.. Battery life is the biggest key factor.. But like a Previous comment... If the air had the same battery life /flight time the Air would be the best go to drone hands down... Til then very happy with my mini
You are meant to store the batteries to around 30-60% if they are stored for 10 days or more. It's in the instructions. If you choose to store them fully charged for long periods of time you can damage the batteries and shorten their life span.
@@DailyDroning I love my Mini. It's affordability got me hooked and now I have a 2 drone channel. Properly exposed with a ND filter, one can get GREAT results. Just the geofencing aggravates me. I always fly with my sms text from ATA at the ready in case a citizen calls the Man anyway..... good channel btw
What I like about the Mini is that most people aren't intimidated or get worked up in a hostile rage when flying since it's so small and relatively quiet. I live in a huge city which isn't friendly to drones at all and I've flown mine at some local public parks several times without any issues. Most people probably think it's some harmless toy without any camera on it at all. Forget the Phantoms but what If I owned an Inspire where the heck would I fly it. Reminds me of some Alien scout drone from another world.
I know I'm a few days late on finding this channel, but glad to be here. So I'm new to drones and the hobby and one big question i keep having is how do you know how much wind your drone can fly in? I know they are all different, but how do figure this out? Thanks in advance everyone
This is because there are 18650 inside. Keeping them charged will not damage them. I use tons of 18650 and always keep them charged. So I think this is good feature.
This is great to hear. It is Feb. 2024 now and wanted to know if there are any newer DJI small drones with the same battery types and ready to go anytime?
The cells in the Mini battery are Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFe) cells and they don't have the same issues with being stored long term in a fully charged state like Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries do.
That was a pretty good video, thank you for the information you provided. When I bought my Mavic mini, the only thing I was really looking forward to was flying it in the wind to see how well it would do. I have flown it several times in some pretty strong winds, and even though it tilts and tips while it’s fighting against the wind, the drone holds its position very well, and when I watch the video, I can’t even tell that the drone was tilting.
KlooGee you’re very right! From one flight to the next, you can rest assured, there will be some flights that seem to make it all seem much more complicated than others! The last time I flew my DJI Spark, was the first time I ever had any sort of control problem with it. After hundreds of hours over years without a single hint of a lack of control, the connection suddenly became weak and intermittent, and the best I could do was steer it away from the body of water known as the American River in Sacramento, in time to have it slam into the side of the Pyramid Building in West Sacramento, which is where I’d launched and was attempting to land my Spark. (The 7th flr. Terrace on the East Side of the building where my wife works.). Beautiful aluminizing golden lights surround the building at night. Great for photography and landing there. Also they launch fireworks from the ground below twice a year, and hovering drone gets great video of fireworks show.
I am a new drone owner with MM being the one I chose for several reasons after doing a ton of homework. I live the little guy but I live in W Tx where the wind blows almost daily thus I am not getting the flight time I want and need. I am thinking of going up to the Pro 2, money isn’t a big issue and I think it is the logical step for what I am wanting to do. Your thoughts and or recommendations?
KlooGee thank you. My mind is decided, ordering tomorrow. I went out this afternoon, no wind, beautiful day, it got out to 2200-2300 ft and started losing signal. Needed to go further as I was scouting for wildlife on one of my farms.
Some great points. Right on the money when it comes to portability. Any camera can be amazing, it’s definitely the photographer and subject that makes the amazing shot. Crappy RTH, DJI made the drone too automated and takes too much power away from the pilot in low battery situations. 40% battery and you better be close to you’re takeoff point.
But that baterry has a auto hibernation mode so if you dont use her baterry will go in hibernation and will not turn on until you conect her to charger. It is the same like when they shiping new Mavic Mini first time you opet the box you canot turn on drone becose the baterry is hibernation. It is the same thing after 20 days of not use.
Those are the same LI-ion batteries found in common LED torches. It's well proven tech and it's got more power to weight than LI-po etc. The mini can only do 30 mph so if that's your wind at altitude, you'd better get low real quick. Tip. In RTH you can get double power by full forward left stick.
Hello excellent video, also I want to comment something, people is complaining about an error that its happening on the drone and its low power fail and it results to crash or descend by it self quickly causing crash or lose of it people its saying that could be wind or props damage or firmware problems what do you think about this issue?
Thanks for your always great reviews, I'm very pleased with mine ,sold my P3 , this is so much more easy to take with me and the video is is adequate for my needs .
I have noticed that if I leave my battery full charged, it lost 8% over a two week period and no it was never turned on. I leave it out now, but still looses a few % a week
@@DailyDroning True! I so need a smaller drone and want one (this good) that can be launched from the hand (or thrown). I've a motorbike and the Phantom is just too big for me at the moment. :(
Great video David. Still don't regret my Mini purchase even with all of the other "superior" drones in my collection. It's just too easy, as long as the wind cooperates. Sooo, you ready to talk Skydio yet? Still wondering what happened and still enjoying mine.
KlooGee I don’t think it’s such an advantage, keeping a battery fully charged can damage it, that’s why there’s a functionality that auto discharge the battery, to keep battery life expectancy ps: sorry for my english, I’m french😂
The mini uses it's very own app. The "Go Fly" app. It's a cut down version of the go 4 app. Personally, I rather use the go 4 app but the mini does not have the option
Good to see you back on You-tube. Great video. You nailed it . Exactly right about the mini, it's lithium-ion batteries, and being careful about the wind. Mike in N.C.
I’m hoping they use Li-Ion instead of Li-Po batteries for the new Mavic that was leaked (looked like a bigger Mavic Mini). Li-Po batteries have some serious disadvantages.
If you keep an lithium ion fully charged, it will damage the battery. Its a slow but steady process and you won't be able to charge it 100% soon. Alway keep it below 100% for storage.
I'm selling my Mavic Pro Platinum because of DJI talking about Drone to Phone. I might pick up a mini later but the rest is going right down a rabbit hole. Shame on DJI bowing down to the FAA God.
Not true. That is not remote ID. That is from DJI, on its own and will work with anyone that has a smartphone and downloads the app. Look at it again David. Everybody is really up at arms about it. Lots of hate. It is only WIFI drone to phone. Pilots are going to get hurt.
@@StanCook I don't agree with anybody being able to see my location where I am flying from but it is a whole lot better than the FAA's proposal. You can still use our existing drones, don't have to have and internet connection and nobody is collecting and storing our data. Mike Kinney Yes but Mike. That is all that app does. Transmits Location of the drone, it’s track and where the pilot is. That might be okay if it is just the authorities but this app anyone can use. DJI even says so in their video.

Depends what you consider high wind. Some places where people do not see high winds (I'm guessing you) think that 14mph is high. I live in Wyoming and high winds are 60-90+ mph. And let me tell you from personal experience. The mini cannot handle with above 22-25mph. 20 is the max I will fly in. And really I don't take off unless it is less than 20 mph gusts. There is a video on my channel to prove this. Because of the winds here, I haven't been able to fly for the last 2 months.

Totally agree. People don’t speak much of the Lithium Ion battery in the mini, as opposed to the lithium polymer (lipo) batteries in other drones.
