Grew up in northeast Florida and we catch giants up there, but when I was living in the keys I remember catching a 6lb bug. This was in a well know spot. The market we sold to kept it alive in a tank until the end of season and let it go. Pretty cool story.

Patreon is a great idea. Some creators will release early cut videos and extended cuts only via Patreon a few days early. Giveaways/raffles, live streams, etc. are also good things to encourage people to become supporters and can create additional revenue. And for Patreon supporters, it's very cheap, only 3-5 bucks per month. Appreciate your videos and content, thanks!

Glad to see someone using a noose. I made them in USVI with a stick and a loop of ss wire. When the bugs were backed up in a ledge I would often use the stick handle to coax them into a better position for snagging. There was no season in the 80's so it was a year long pastime. Using a noose I was able to release the females with eggs. By the time I left in 89 pollution had decimated some of my favorite spots. I worked one cave for 2 months, taking 3 or 4 at a time. When I first looked in that cave, all I saw was massive antenna's. The last time there as I approached all I saw was broken antenna's and legs. The commercial guys had found the cave and wiped it out.

Another great video, thank you. I made the 1200 mile drive down from Maryland on February 27th for a two week fishing and diving trip. I got a couple days in and the rest were blown out with the wind. My kayak and beginner Spearfishing skills have a lower limit. I’m going to repeat the trip again in September and hopefully have better conditions. In the meantime I will be following you and dreaming of what could have been :) I feel for the charter captains and crew as I saw the docks just full of boats that couldn’t go out.
As far as Patreon goes, it’s a nice platform. Think of it as RUclips where you can set a monthly admission fee, from $1 on up, and you can have multiple tiers. The downside is that it would double your work trying to do youtube and have a patreon site where you do something that gives more value. In the end it’s all about your time and energy and how you want to spend it. For me personally, I would buy into a tier for two reasons, one to get more access or useful info, and secondly to help out guys who are hard working and trying to make a life for themselves doing what they love. People like that, you, deserve support from those of us who learn so much, and are entertained , not to mention living vicariously, by your efforts.

Possible the big one was just starting to molt. They are pretty helpless at that point. You can usually tell if that is the case, as the "skin" on the meat is tougher than usual. Fun vid, as always!

That slug in the beginning is called an Aplysia. SoFlo varieties harmless. It's more colorful cousin, nudibranch can be poisonous but not always. They Squirt purple ink, very similar to octopus ink. Fun fact, they are commonly farmed to be used for scientific neurological studies because their neuron cells are so huge it's very easy to study.

Don’t know if you ever lightly flour and deep fry your lobster, but it is delicious. One of my favorite ways to eat it.

Love the videos...I can't wait to make LIME garlic butter lobster tails... sorry but growing up in the Keys, a small pet peeve is referring to something being "key lime" and using regular limes... especially when you are in the Key West...lol...looks great either way...

Aaron, really enjoy your highly informative and entertaining content! Would you please share your thoughts on and/or your experience with Ciguatera? I just learned of it and it seems terrifying! Thanks!

To be honest I don’t have any experience with it, I think it’s one of those things that happens on extremely rare occasion. If one person gets it from a barracuda, They say don’t eat barracudas. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Nice bugs. But I hope you get to do the cobia video, they're one of my favorites to catch and eat. That octopus would be awesome in ceviche, I think they're all edible.

My family will be spending a week in the keys late March. We all just got scuba certifications and we are very excited for open water. Any spots you can recommend that are safe for new divers but somewhat challenging. Beach dives are what I'm looking for. We are staying in big pine key so since we are near the center the whole keys are at our fingertips. Any advice or direction would be much appreciated 🙏
