    Despite the fact that there are plenty of squat tutorials on YT(some are even done by competent lifters:)) I believe it's good to familiarize yourself with as many styles of squat as possible, since(as said in this vid) everyone has different anatomy so it might take a while for someone to find their optimal position. So big thx for a vid and Liz, you're a beast(in a beautiful way of course:))

    EDIT: I took these cues in mind during my session and had a friend watch my depth and buttwink and it worked. Felt stronger in the bottom position too and was more effectively able to drive up with the bar. Liz is a damn life saver

    I recently started with strength training and I'm still adjusting and trying to find my own technique. after this vid I did a few squats that didn't feel such a pain in the chain.. the key was do a little hinge then brace, I was able to get a better front rib brace than before. looking forward to developing it over the next few weeks - thanks for the great content.

    This has actually helped me a lot. I find that I rely too much on my lower back to the point where it hurts after squatting heavy.
    Understanding how to properly brace, squeeze your butt, positioning your upper body and hips into a hinge, and keeping the form tight all the way down and back up is just the knowledge I needed to fix my form.
    I'll be doing this on my leg day to see how I can significantly improve my squats and finally stop this stupid chronic back pains I get from doing squats without proper form.

    • @Shannon_Robbie

      I have lower back issues from Squats & DL's as well. I'm going to have to record my lifts and work on these cues in the video. It's not easy that's for sure!

  • @craigdanielmaceacher

    I learned through Starting Strength methods, and probably because I have no coach/teacher I had a lot of buttwink as you called it and it killed my lower back. The emphasis on "hip drive" in SS out of the bottom I think led me to assuming that stripper squat. Doing it this way makes more sense to me and when I tried it yesterday it made a huge difference in how I felt during and after squatting.

    Are there any advantages for breathing through the nose than the mouth for bracing?

    • @ImWalnuts
      @ImWalnuts 4 года назад

      m kl hold your breath the whole lift (valsalva maneuver)

    • @sm-qw9mj
      @sm-qw9mj 4 года назад +1

      I like the way Dave Tate explained this in a video.
      If you breath through your mouth first and then try to breath through your nose, you cannot get any more air in. If you breath through your nose first, you can actually get more air in through your mouth. Therefore, he says, you should always breath through your nose first.
      I personally feel like this doesn't matter that much if you start by breathing through your mouth, but it may actually help you brace better if you breath through your mouth after getting the maximum amount of air through your nose.
      This was very repetitive, sorry about that.

    • @charliebauer6603
      @charliebauer6603 4 года назад

      m kl yes. A lot of the time when you breath through the mouth too aggressively like Taylor Atwood you will see a shift in the upper back and it can change your positioning. Its not a big deal but if you want to nit pick breathing in through the nose will be slightly more consistent.

  • @chrisr7431

    What is exactly meant when she say's: "Expand in my hands."?
    Contracting the core?
    Or breath in to "expand" the core section?
    Or both?
    Thanks a lot ✌️

    • @DavidGonzalez-sw5ex
      @DavidGonzalez-sw5ex 3 года назад +2

      Its both, for a proper brace you need to tighten the core while you have a full breath

      I believe it's to get more air. Take a big belly breath through your mouth, squeeze, keeping tension all the way into your jaw. and then breath through your nose to get a little more air.
