Not gonna lie, this is probably the most detailed 'how to' video I've ever watched. I realised quite quickly that this didn't relate to my issue, and I still finished the whole thing 🤣
Probably the best channel on RUclips for detailed information regarding fault codes. Thank you so much for providing a detailed explanation on how and why this fault code occurs. I've had numerous codes occur over the past 6 weeks until this code appeared. My vehicle burns through an excessive amount of oil, I have to constantly top it up before oil changes.
You either advance the timing or retard the timing, I know that last word is a trigger word for some sensitive snowflakes but it's accurate for what you are trying to describe, do not let their overly sensitive feelings stop you from stating the facts using the best and most accurate words to describe what is happening. Great educational video by the way!
Your personality and your method of presentation make it easy to watch. Thank you for all the information you gave on the topic. I started changing these this morning on an '06 F150 5.4l 3v Triton. The vct's are down in a hole with a small bolt holding them in and a rubber seal on top. The passenger side went ok. But the driver side little bolt is screwed in so tight it's ridiculous. Maybe a guy could break it loose but it is almost like it was put in with an impact wrench. So my question is...how can I break this little bolt loose without messing up something? Thanks for your help...whoever answers. Jesus bless.
black smoke means too much fuel... burning oil is blue smoke. One smells like unburned fuel and the other one like burnt oil. Either way, not a VVT solenoid.
Great video; thank you. Though I've searched RUclips on replacing the other bank and nobody has shown the process and headache of removing the plenum to gain access to that one. I was hoping you would show that process on the 3.5L Nissan Altima.
2007 Hyundai Sonata... check engine code P0011... oil is fine... bought brand new vvt solenoid (specific for my car)... easy install, now the car idles very high... tried 4 straight days, hoping it would adjust, but same result... anybody have solutions...thanks
Quick question - when completed and the codes have been reset, wouldn't you need to do a Vanos adaptation reset to ensure the values are within tolerance? Great video by the way!
My wife has a LR discovery sport and her CE light just came on. Codes are P0000A, P0011, P000B and P0014. I checked her oil. It was low. Is this a DIY job or should I take it to dealership?
Hello Dear, thanks a lot for explaining it very well I got important information about facing a problem. Actually, I have " Hyundai Accent 2013 car" I am facing the problem " the Oil light is blinking, when I cross around 20 KM, the light blinking when I stop only not while I'm driving" Anyway, I checked my car by computer tester and I found this error " P0011 'A' Camshaft Position Timing Over-Advanced Or System Performance Bank 1" Please tell me what must to do.
I got an oil change and they didn’t know what service engine soon indicator light was for. It is diff than check engine light. Went to autozone and got a pp0011 code and they didn’t know what it was for. After he pulled out reader the light went off and reset itself. Another thing neither car place knew how to do. Mine is Mitshubishi
Hi. I have a P0011 on my 2011 Infiniti G37s. It started after I changed oil after not changing it for a long time. Like 9000 miles. I changed oil again, replaced VVT solenoids, and replaced a couple of sensors. The car runs ok when I reset the code, but it reappears every other start and the engine obviously goes back to limp mode. Technicians at some body shop tell me I have to change a sprocket and timing chain and want to charge 30 hours of work at $150 just to get to it, without diagnosing the actual problem. What would your advice be in my situation.
Engineers design car, spec a maintenance interval for all serviceable systems, end users don't do maintenance, say the car is horrible. Engineers redesign systems to be "sealed for life" and use "lifetime fluids". Problem solved right?
I bought a used truck & it had the same code. It was apparent that previous owner did not change oil often enough. When I took the oil cap off, you can see the burnt oil residue on inside. So, I added oil cleaner and drove truck awhile. Then changed the oil. Once changed, removed the solenoid and soaked it overnight in diesel. Then I tested it by hooking wires to battery. The solenoid plunger moved. Reinstalled. Engine light is still on, I think I can reset by adding a 1 Watt 10 ohm resister to battery. So, was it wise to add oil cleaner first before installing new solenoids? It's a quick fix till I buy new ones.
Excellent detailed testing at 12:30. I have a pesky P0011 on 2007 Nissan Xterra 6 speed manual 112k miles. I do not want to bust open the timing cover and do a timing job if not needed so that test will help determine if the problem is with the cam phaser. Thank you
Hello I like your videos but I have a question. I have a humming kind of grinding noise at lower speeds but the humming throughout speeds on the left front tire wheel. I thought it was the bearing but when I turn right it goes away and when I drive on the left side of the road that is banked maybe four or 5° so that the left side of the wheel goes down rides on the lower part of the bank the noise goes away. But the alignment was recently done and it said it was good within spec and after the alignment and still does it I still have all the same symptoms. Can it still be the bearing that is cracked in some place or is the bearing like cockeyed within the hub but we'll still go straight.
Here's the gig (ignition on / engine off) (Gm 3.6 over Advanced exhaust) When you plug in all four actuators Three of the actuators engage and when you start the engine it runs absolutely terrible. The fourth solenoid has power but does not activate the solenoid but the solenoid is good cuz I checked it manually. But with the fourth one plugged in and the other three solenoids unplugged the engine runs perfect cuz three of them are not engaged. plug any other actuator in and the engine runs pathetic
For the rear VVT there's not need to take out the intake manifold, just move to the left that black hose full of cables and use an extender with a ratch. It will take less than 10 minutes.
My oil is still nesrly ambet and at max yet my dash says "get engine serived". My 2003 Saturn Ion purrs like a kitten. I take care of it myself thougj i had a mechanic replace the ECM recently because as a DYI'ER I must know my limitations. There is no more than 1200 miles on my engine (5/30 Pennzoil Platinum - nothing but the BEST)! Why do i get this indicator? Thanks. David Alberta
Can anyone help? I have the P0011 code. I took it too autozone and it told me that it was the timing plate(very unfamiliar with this part) I know it’s a cover of some sort. But I have no problems with the car, no rattling, slapping, or any other odd noises, no trouble starting or accelerating, or idle issues. Any help on this? I don’t want to take it and spend more money then I have to, (just purchased vehicle)
Good day, i have a chevy cruze. I get p0011 error. Replaced the intake cam due to sensor pickup that broke off. Then i replaced the solenoid valve. Still get p0011 error after driving for about 15km. When the car is cold and i start it the lifters make a noise then it goes quiet. Must i change my vvt sprocket. Thank you
Love the videos. But hand tools? That cover could have been off in 30 secs. 🤔 Plus you used alot of terms that are not even words used to describe the actual timing.
Thank you so much I did everything you said and it worked but my battery warning is still lit on my dash but it’s not weak the battery and it doesn’t need a jump how do I reset that
I'm having similar issues. I had vvt codes after running out of gas. Turned out to be bad intake. I changed them both but now I have a misfire in cylinder 2. And the intake code p0010 still there.. Changed oil and filters and air filter. Worried to start my car again with the misfire.
Is it possible that these solenoids will need to be replaced without a code? I have a blue driver and my vvt was showing live data and it was marked with a yellow exclamation amd the other vvt were green. I have a rough idle.

Excellent video ,well explain 👏bravo 👏
This video is perfect timing, my car has been burning oil (oil loss with black smoke). Now I know what my next steps should be. Thanks 👍

Makes sense. I've seen VVT screw up and over time causing the PCV to stick and blojob oil out of the engine.

Good video. Thanks!
This is one of my favorite RUclips video. Very informative 👍👍👍👍
+E Lab Thanks for the feedback!
Will you get p0081 code for either solenoid? Or is p0081 specific to a bank?

I feel that the tire is riding on the inside of it like cambered top tire in, so that when it rides on a bank road it rides at the correct angle...
Buen video
You made this helpful post understandable. Thanks Sue.

Now I know what’s causing that slight clucking sound on my car. VVT Solenoid!
It nice explaination
Should I disconnect the battery before replacement?

Should I be using synthetic oil for my Nissan Versa 2014? I have the code p0011
I think the VCM system OR eco system caused this problem.
Very good video, thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks, God bless you.
Nissan VQ35 is a great engine, that is if she is full of good quality oil and not hooked up with a Jatco CVT

Help!! A have P0011 and the problem is not VVT, a tried it. Somtimes its code P000A but most of the time P0011. What to do?
Love the videos. But hand tools? That cover could have been off in 30 secs. 🤔 Plus you used alot of terms that are not even words used to describe the actual timing.
This Nissan Models, I think its Nissan Altima, has rust problems, they rust under the car very fast, especially the carpet, and seat area.
Thanks for this confirmation!
This helped me out allot
Great info.

So that code could just pop up because I need a oil change
Is FULL Synthetic oil actually 100% synthetic or not?
This was very interesting 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I would flush the engine oil as well
I keep up the oil changes and I scanned came that code , i recently replaced the engine gasket , why still comes up !
Great job!
Where is the vvt selnoid location in 2015 Hyundai sonata sport 2.4l?
Thank you so much I did everything you said and it worked but my battery warning is still lit on my dash but it’s not weak the battery and it doesn’t need a jump how do I reset that

HA!
As soon as the vid showed it was a vintage Nissan I knew it was an oil burner!
Cats turn to dust and the engine inhales it wiping out the rings.

Did not diagnose the integrity of the electrical circuit. To check if it has voltage being applied to the VVT solenoid.
