This is the only film that remotely dives into Hulk’s origin and psychology that the MCU ignores.
How his mind is broken because of his dad. Bruce grew up emotionally distant, he has various Hulk personas that represent his repressed emotions. His struggles is a journey of self control to not harm anyone, that’s an inspirational for any boy growing up.

I feel like this version actually does get the overall mass right, but Hulk's vocals aren't limited to roars and growls. He may not be the definition of intelligent, but he is able to speak. And I also love the way they actually animated the bullets bouncing off his skin.

This film managed to recreate many references from the comics, for example, Bruce's traumas and repressed emotions, the GAMMA radiation accident that turned him into the Hulk, how he grows when he gets angrier, and his battle against the dogs in the forest, Unfortunately many did not appreciate it at that time, I like how HULK looks in this movie, They were other times in Marvel movies, without the need for CGI, it is one of my favorite movies!

I love this movie so much. Tobey as Spiderman and Eric as Hulk is what I grew up with. There are seams in both that I notice as an adult. Still I have so much nostalgia for them I can’t choose any of the new ones over them. People complain about the editing but to this day that’s one of my favorite aspects of the movie. The portrayal of the Hulk in this is my favorite. He changes size and strength in proportion to his anger. Compared to the zen master surfer bro hulk we have now. The unbridled anger this movies Hulk shows is what I miss from the current MCU. Also the fact the MCU seemingly did away with the abusive father plot. Which is a major factor as to Bruce’s development of his alter ego.

Actually, the Hulk being "too green" here is intentional. Part of the genetic alterations to Bruce included jellyfish DNA, and jellyfish have bioluminescence (they glow). So whenever Bruce turns into the hulk, the jellyfish DNA makes his skin really green and he kind of glows, basically.

This movie is far from perfect, but I do think it's highly underrated. I appreciate Ang Lee delving more into the psyche of Bruce Banner and the Hulk (which the comics have also done), but this was definitely a movie that CGI technology was not ready for. Also, fun fact: The other security guard that Stan Lee is talking to is Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk, alongside Bill Bixby as Bruce (changed to David for the show) Banner, in a Hulk TV show in the 1970s and 80s.

I'll defend the cgi in this movie till the day I die. The cgi wasn't anywhere near bad when it came out. You can't judge it from 2024 standards. In fact it still holds up. The only thing you can possibly say was not good was the shade of green. It was a lil too bright and thats it. If you toned down the shade of green people would not say its bad. A lot of people only say its bad because of that and they don't look at anything else. They also say its bad because they hear other people say its bad so they go in thinking that. What about other stuff? The skin texture still looks great in a lot of scenes whether its wet, dry, has dirt on it, or mud. It never looks fake when he's interacting with stuff. The body movements don't look cartoony and unrealistic. Even Raimi's Spiderman movies cgi looked a lil cartoony in its movements. The first X Men movie had bad cgi, Ghost Rider, and so on and so on. The cgi in this movie definitely went for a more realism approach and it holds up pretty well I'd say. We only call it bad now cause we've seen better and we're 20 years ahead of this. But its still cgi nowadays that looks worse than this. And if you compare the cgi of the time to this Hulk, you'd see this was actually pretty damn good.
Now the editing, pacing, and story are completely different things. Thats where the movie really kinda dropped the ball. It takes a while for the movie to get going with the Hulk and the funky editing at times makes it a lil hard to get into. I can appreciate what Ang Lee was going for with some of the comic book style editing. It was something different, and I'm ok with that, but it was a lil too much at times. And it wasn't just the comic book style editing. It was other stuff too that was just too much and random. And besides Hulk for the most part, I didn't find too many other characters interesting at all. But I still love this Hulk though. Its the most accurate version of the character to date, and it actually touches on some of the more psychological stuff with his character. I don't think this should have been PG though. Its some really adult stuff in Hulk's backstory that just don't hit the same if you toned it down. And Hulk himself isn't a character that you really wanna see be too PG. I don't wanna see him rip apart beasts and monsters and they just puff into green smoke after he rips them apart. If they can somehow merge this Hulk with the 2008 Hulk version, I think we might have a near perfect Hulk. Well as long as they get the story right.

Trivia: Throughout the film, some clues foreshadow David Banner's climactic descent into insanity:
He goes undercover as a janitor in his son's lab, referencing Samuel Sterns, a janitor who became the Hulk's archenemy, "The Leader."
He bombards himself with gamma radiation and absorbs the properties of anything he touches, like the Absorbing Man, another Hulk foe.
He absorbs and transforms into a LOT of electrical energy in the film's final fight sequence, an homage to the classic Hulk villain, Zzzax.

So, I just watched this movie for the first time last week, and I have mixed feelings towards it. I love that it takes a phycological turn and really dives into Bruce's trauma, it's really cool that the angrier he gets, the stronger and taller he becomes. And him *biting* a missile!😮 Just, what can't the hulk do?!
But I do think him growing 15ft is a little ridiculous, why not just keep the first two sizes that he transformed into, that's intimidating enough! Also, I will never know how Betty was able to recognize Bruce when first seeing the hulk! It'd make sense if she knew it was him through an action only Bruce did, like maybe he calls her by a nickname he gave her while they were dating or just a simple zoom-in of his eyes to let us know that Betty's recognizing him through his eyes, but we don't get that! While I could understand Betty being terrified of what was happening, she did betray Bruce. Her and her dad aren't even that close, what did she expect would happen? Betty from 2008 would never! And I do see what you mean regarding the hulk's color, he's too bright! In the 2008 movie, he's dark green and you can see all of his veins and muscles. It looks terrifying like the hulk should be. This hulk is terrifying, but he doesn't look it. If the 2008 hulk's design was here to and Betty, then I'd absolutely love this movie. Overall, this movie's just okay for me.
Also not a big deal, just a nitpick, but it's annoying how Bruce's pants shrink with him when he transforms. Just, how?

You should probably here's the thing the 2008 hulk is in the same universe as this whole so if you're going to watch this version of the whole cube you got to watch the hulk from 2008 the one that's part of the MCU technically both of these movies are connected they're both important so you need to watch that movie after you watch this one so that could be the movie you watch because it looks like on one of the days you don't have a movie to watch so you can watch the 2008 hulk film what you need to watch because it looks like maybe Doctor Doom might be coming back in the new falcon in movie the new falcon brave New world movie some people think doctor do might return to that movie so so you know who the characters you might want to watch the 2008 the hulk film

I know this movie has started to grow a few fans, but I’m sorry. To me, this movie is very dull and badly written. This is from the same director of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, yet this doesn’t feel like it’s from the same director. Even Eric Bana plays a very bland and boring Bruce Banner. If anything, I’d be surprised if anyone actually stayed awake while watching this movie.

I'm surprised you're here still watching it and even cared to comment, lol.. Just because it hurt your feelings doesn't mean it's bad

Nope.. this one will eat all the Avengers combined and still have time for all the villains too even without increasing his strength to country buster levels.. It's not even close

If you're talking about Mark Ruffalo, Eric Banner can beat Mark Ruffalo's. And got his childhood/trauma right

The 2008 Hulk movie is much better than this Hulk movie

Maybe, but this movie shows the Hulk getting stronger, the man gets angry. They got his childhood trauma right.
