I genuinely love Val Kilmer as Batman. He was great as Batman and an equally great Bruce Wayne, showing us how his revenge ruined him to the point of becoming someone you feel sorry for.
Warner Bros: Batman Returns was too dark, we barely sold any toys because of it's dark tone. Schumacher what do got for us? Joel Schumacher shows them the original cut of Batman Forever. Warner Bros: Holy shit, water it down, water it down!

Yeah it's tricky. They’re good but they do slow the movie down a bit - particularly the giant bat scene. If you want to see them edited back in search for the "Batman Forever Virtual Worprint" on google.
I don't really see how the connection is made between a giant (I guess hallucinated) bat, and Bruce not feeling guilty over his parents death...doesn't quite add up. If anything I think it all would just confuse the story, after all it did say Bruce wanted to see a cartoon( presumably at the same theatre). 8n which case he should still feel guilty.
@@talesfromtheclassroom like I already posted... " I get that. However, I doubt the audience would have come to that conclusion. I think most people would have interpreted it as Bruce felt guilt about the murder of his parents so he imagined a giant nightmarish bat to torment himself. Shame this doesn't feature the Claw Island development and the Riddler beating the security guard with his cane. I completed the sticker album back in the day and always wanted to see that!!
How much better the tone and total final product of this movie would have been if these scenes were left in, the score less cartoon-ish, and less bright neon lights.
These extra scenes would help the movie so much. Only down side is that two face and riddler still have that over the top approach that kill certain scenes. If Tommy Lee Jones stuck with that attitude from the opening line it would have been a good contrast to Jim Carey
I can understand why that final scene was deleted. The giant bat was a big risk, could have come off as either too cheesy or too nightmarish. The subplot about Bruce feeling guilty over his parents death was interesting, added drama and depth, but seems confusing, why would he have decided to fight crime if he blamed himself.
Well, I think the idea is that, in his mind, if he hadn't wanted to go to see a movie his parents wouldn't have been there to be murdered. So he fights crime for revenge and to absolve himself of the guilt that he feels.

In the year one graphic novel, Bruce kicks a tree in half. The deleted scene with Bruce and Dick is an excellent homage to that moment in the book.
Hadn't thought of that comparison. Good spot.
Joel always wanted to make a dark and serious adaptation of Batman: Year One but WB no longer wanted to work with him.
8:24 Bruce: I've never been in love before, Alfred.
Vick Vale and Catwoman: Am I a joke to you ?
Those were both lust not love 😍
Bruce: Yes, because I'm Batman.
The “still a child afraid of a monster in the dark” bit would’ve made sense in the film
Wow, didn't know there's a lot of unused footage 🤯. That footage brings a bit more of Burton feel on it.

Exactly. It's a neat idea. One that would suit a one shot comic book. But isn't the best beginning to an action packed finale of a movie.
