"Batman Forever" is actually very underrated, I think. Sure it was flawed, but it also had a lot of strengths that deserve to be recognized (visuals, set designs, casting, humor, Elliot Goldenthal's awesome musical score, etc.). As a staple of my '90s upbringing I have nothing but fond memories of it. Val wasn't the worst Batman, not at all; in many ways I'd happily rank him amongst the best. As a film "Forever" was definitely misunderstood in its time: it did something different with those characters and that world, Joel was willing to take risks and take the franchise in a new direction, but people weren't necessarily ready yet for Joel's vision. Granted, Burton's films remain superior, and at the time that's what audiences were used to, and all "Forever" tried to do was tweak it and create something much closer to the eccentricity of some of the early comic books. I, for one, appreciate it for just that reason.
if only tim burton if not lazy when he selected by WB to working make 1989 Batman film and want to cast the actor who was not so well-known at that time George Clooney to become Batman😑😤😑
@Vino from a pure physical point of view, your point is very well taken, I truly would envision Batman being a lil bit taller than Michael was..mind you, tho, when it comes to him donning the cape and cowl, the guy was intimidating af. I'll do you one better dawg: no one in the history could ever top his sinister-looking aura
There have been a lot of great villain lines from these films even the Schumacher ones but for some reason one of my favorites is from Danny DeVito in “Batman Returns” when he takes over the bat mobile n says “Welcome to the Oswald Cobblepot school of driving. Gentlemen, start your screaming!”
Batman Forever was the first Batman film I seen when I was kid, having spend Sunday mornings watching Adam West. It was like a soft introduction to a dark Batman story. Really got me into the character, thanks Joel RIP
I will finish what you started Joel Schumacher and I promise you that the Unproduced Batman films will be done justice for the fans for the audiences and for the studios
I've been waiting for the Director's Cut of this since I first heard of it in 1997 while Batman & Robin was in production...make it happen, WB. Easy money!
I love that these films knew what they were trying to be, unlike the newer ones where I feel like there is a complex to what they are trying to be. In the end, these are carnival comic book films an there is nothing wrong with that.
Batman and Robin is one of the few movies I've ever seen where I laugh so hard and so consistently that I'm crying for most of the run time. Love it or hate it - it's always entertaining to watch
I've never hated it, but the original script of Batman forever was way better and it got scrapped. I think people were disappointed by what could have been
A lot of people would only notice and appreciate (or hate) Batman Forever because of what they see on a surface level. Try to mute the over the top performances of Carey and Jones, see past the colors and the eccentric costumes and sets... this Batman one-off is dark, perhaps even darker and complex than Tim Burton's take on Bruce Wayne's psyche. With Burton, the psychological case studies were his villains, though Michael Keaton's performance still outshines the actors that succeeds him.
I liked Batman Forever as kid and appreciate the unique vision as an adult. It really modernized Batman's campy origins and to this day had some of the most fantastical and whimsical performances/ set pieces I've ever seen. Batman and Robin really got away from them, though.
Batman Forever is a really beautifully shot film - and entertaining - Joel Schumacher was the right director for the job, especially after Falling Down - RIP - Joel Schumacher
@@icemav5740 Not at all - I generally think in terms of lighting, choice of lens', the variation in camera angles - with the production design - it's very well done. @@RobAyling that's an interesting take on it. I just really hate the lighting and the neon colour pallet they went for in these movies. The shot of robin in the suit standing on the rock is great though, it really captures his look and physique very well, but overall imo forever and batman and Robin are just childish jokes
And because Tim didn't direct Batman Forever, we got the year before, one of my favorite films of all time, Ed Wood! It all worked out in the end. Well, until 1997 that is.

I still enjoy Batman Forever for what it is. Its not the best Batman movie, but it is one of the most fun to watch. I would rather have a fun movie with flaws than a boring one.
batman forever is still my fave of the burton/schumacher batman films, and still is one of my fave batman movies of all time. A solid depiction of Batman that felt close to batman the animated series and the comics at the time. The soundtrack and the score soundtrack was also awesome. Meanwhile, Batman and robin is really just a contemporary homage to the silver age batman comics and the batman'66 tv series. and in a way is just batman brave and the bold personified. Just fun movies when you see them for what they are, let alone, Batman and robin is the first to acknowledge superman, which make it one ofthe first shared universe movies that made the attempt. Really fun for what it is.
Wish the dark tone Schumacher was going for Batman Forever didn’t get removed. Val Kilmer’s performance would have been more consistent with the film rather than him being serious and fairly dark only for the film to go back and forth between light and dark. Batman & Robin is too campy for me. While that style worked for Adam West’s Batman, by the 90s people were more interested in a serious take on Batman not so much a new Batman done in a campy way. Studio interference had a lot to do with how Schumacher’s films turned out. Of course that’s not to say Schumacher didn’t have any hand in some of the light hearted nature of those films, but it’s clear from the work he did before and after Batman that he’s more of a dark filmmaker and I wish we would have gotten a dark Schumacher Batman. RIP Joel Schumacher.

Batman Forever was one of the comic movies I watched and loved.
I almost broke our VHS copy from watching it like 3-4 times a day.
Try to find Goldenthal's interview about the music. The way he describes coming up with the score gave me a better appreciation of it.
Bring Keaton back for flashpoint , batman beyond, and other batman upcoming projects........🤠
Indeed they will!
Well he actually just signed on to a 3 movie deal with Warner Bros/DC
You got it!
''Micheal will always be Batman'' Right-o, George!
if only tim burton if not lazy when he selected by WB to working make 1989 Batman film and want to cast the actor who was not so well-known at that time George Clooney to become Batman😑😤😑
What?
@@Ian-hj4yt don't what me dawg or else
I love Clooney, he's still better than Val Kilmer's batman
There have been a lot of great villain lines from these films even the Schumacher ones but for some reason one of my favorites is from Danny DeVito in “Batman Returns” when he takes over the bat mobile n says “Welcome to the Oswald Cobblepot school of driving. Gentlemen, start your screaming!”
Say what you will, but Joel Schumacher is a stand up guy

Batman Forever was the first Batman film I seen when I was kid, having spend Sunday mornings watching Adam West. It was like a soft introduction to a dark Batman story. Really got me into the character, thanks Joel RIP
It's not dark
@@Ian-hj4yt Riddler throws a guy out a window and the flying Graysons fall to their deaths...
@@PianomanMIC So?
@@Ian-hj4yt for the time it was dark within the light show and campiness. Val kilmers portrayal was pretty dark, actually darker than Keatons
@@zeeski7454 You're joking, right?
This movie isn't bad. At least Val took the role seriously
Hot take. Vál wás better than Affleck.
@@TheNerdMan2 agree to disagree. One was an ok Wayne. The other was live action Arkham post game's release
@@TheNerdMan2 Different kind of Batman. Affleck's Batman was written as tired and weary having been operating in Gotham for 20 years.
Wrong. He thought it was a joke.
@@silvervalleystudios2486 Affleck s action was a stint man and snyder
Happy 25th anniversary, Batman Forever! 🎥🦇🎂
Same age as me nearly
And 23rd to Batman & Robin!
I went to see Batman Forever for my 11th Birthday and as of 2020, it is is still one of my favourite movies.
The soundtrack for Batman forever was just absolutely amazing and BOLD
In the memory of Joel Schumacher (1939-2020).
I will finish what you started Joel Schumacher and I promise you that the Unproduced Batman films will be done justice for the fans for the audiences and for the studios
R.I.P Joel Schumacher
May not be my favourite Batman film compared to the others, but the art direction and set pieces are honestly innovative and amazing.
I genuinely like Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. My son is 3 and he loves watching both of these movies and I love watching them with him.
I liked them as a kid as well. Batman forever I can still watch and like but Batman and Robin and I can’t do lol.

Love this movie my second favorite batman film.
Versatile Titan Agreed. I’ve seen all of them this is probably my 2nd fav after ‘89.
I loved batman 66! And B&R was my first intro to Bats as a kid. I loved it! Rip Joel
Still love those 2 things.
Jim Carey as The Riddler was the best part of the movie
*Carrey
Batman and Robin is one of the few movies I've ever seen where I laugh so hard and so consistently that I'm crying for most of the run time. Love it or hate it - it's always entertaining to watch
Why do people hate this movie, i loved it as a child
I've never hated it, but the original script of Batman forever was way better and it got scrapped. I think people were disappointed by what could have been
Always loved this batmobile
52:17 Joel here deserves a great respect forever
Joel!!!!!!! Iam Forever Thankful for those Movies
This is awesomeeee
I'm speechless...
What a Great Production.
Brilliant Actors Not to mention Producers and Director
🎬
"Chicks dig the car" and all of the unforgettable fun/unique moments form these interestly remember caped crusader entries. Stay safe everyone!
"The second one was too dark"
IT'S BATMAN.
"This one had a bit more color and was more light-hearted."
IT'S BATMAN.
Back then people did whine about Batman Returns being too dark.. This was all Pre-Comic movies being Dark as a rule basically.
Returns was super dark though. It was too much for many people. Batman doesn't have to be depressing.
@@kelvinhuicinephile
Not nearly as dark as comic book movies of today.
@@kelvinhuicinephile It never felt depressing to me. Just twisted and lavish.
@@kelvinhuicinephile Yes, he does.
12:37 the greatest transition to introduce Tommy Lee Jones 😂😂😂
0:26 the music is awesome.
Barbara Ling is an amazing artist.
WB have an nack for ruining directors, Forever is alright, I never hated it, but you can tell it was supposed to be more.
Joel didnt have to apologize. The executives who green lighted everything need to apologize.
But before the parents do!
I loved Jim Carrey as the Riddler, but I always wanted to see him as Joker. I loved Batman Forever as a kid.
I love this movie and I love watching the movie. Batman forever was cool and batman and robin was amazing. Joel Schumacher is a genius.
The studio wanted something more kid friendly. They didn'tinterview Tim Burton, we only hear others say he got tired of Batman.
Lololololol
Is that a joke?
@@icemav5740 Not at all - I generally think in terms of lighting, choice of lens', the variation in camera angles - with the production design - it's very well done. Batman Forever does have its flaws for sure, but its entertaining. And if you haven't seen it, I really recommend Falling Down, thats an amazing film.
@@RobAyling that's an interesting take on it. I just really hate the lighting and the neon colour pallet they went for in these movies. The shot of robin in the suit standing on the rock is great though, it really captures his look and physique very well, but overall imo forever and batman and Robin are just childish jokes
My favortie Batmobile, so weird and gothic-organic, i love it.
I grew up with batman and robin movies 😊
And because Tim didn't direct Batman Forever, we got the year before, one of my favorite films of all time, Ed Wood! It all worked out in the end. Well, until 1997 that is.
I'm just happy that these 2 movies got made. I think they were great (for their times).
If you watched this movie as kid you don’t see it the same as other people
regardless of how you feel about joel’s batman movies, the guy just wanted to make fun batman movies the best way he knew how. you gotta commend him for that. i personally enjoy batman forever. it’s not as strong as tim’s first two but it’s a solid entry. joel’s visual style is otherworldly and val’s batman is pretty underrated honestly. RIP Joel. your contributions to the batman franchise will never be forgotten❤️
"Batman is Elvis."
I KNEW IT!!
To this day batman forever remains the best depiction of the absolute fun and all around colorful batman adaptation put to screen. Movie is literally a comic book and it’s beautiful in its own way . Rip shumacher
I still enjoy Batman Forever for what it is. Its not the best Batman movie, but it is one of the most fun to watch. I would rather have a fun movie with flaws than a boring one.
This movie was Batman heading back to the Adam West era.
batman forever is still my fave of the burton/schumacher batman films, and still is one of my fave batman movies of all time.
