As a mesmer main I used to play heal chrono even before the rifle release. As you said the best part is flexibility and the ability to solo carry the breakbar in encounters in addittion to the insane amount of constant healing. Before patch scepter-shield was mandatory but now that the numbers have been adjusted to redistribute the healing, you can shuffle A LOT, Both in terms of weapons and abilities from heal to elite. You always want to keep one weapon that generate a lot of clones and a second one for the utility it provides. Scepter, dagger and sword-off hand are for clone generation. Rifle, shield-off hand, focus-off hand and staff are for the utility they provide in different situations and with different traits based on the encounter. When it comes to stats I like to go for a mix of Harrier and Giver up to a max of 1680ish thoughness (= 2.7k armor) since due to deminishing returns it feels bad to invest in more thoughness after that point. Superior sigil of concentration is not really necessary once you learn the class well and where all your boons come from. Once confident enough you can swap it for something like superior sigil of paralyzation for even more breakbar damage. Personally even if it means dropping swiftness I doubt I would ever drop Relic of the Monk in favor of Relic of Febe. The 10% extra heal is just too good to pass but I see the appeal and I will try it in the future to see how it goes. When it comes to might you just have to remember that given full alacrity uptime, your F1 shatter keeps on nearby allies 10 stack of might (15 stacks if used on opener during Continuum Split) permanent if you keep using it off-cooldown. Given that you just have to add 10 stacks from an other source. I personally find having one of the following is usually enough thanks to Improved Alacrity and Continuum Split but you do you: Rifle 3, Shield 5, Well of Action, Mantra of Pain (in personal decreasing order of preference). If you really need to revive people faster you can go for Medic's Feedback instead of Restorative Mantras in the Inspiration trait line. You lose a lot of healing on mantra casts doing so, therefore I would suggest to use it only in niche situations when running no Mantras. Lastly I see you have an adoration for Signet of Humility but I personally prefer Gravity Well as an elite for many reasons: 1. It is a well skill therefore it is affected by the trait All's Well That Ends Well and will heal your subgroup when it ends if placed smartly. 2. As a CC it is only 50 breakbar damage less compared to Signet of Humility (550 vs 600) (only in PVE) even though the tooltip says differently (due to the knockdown being interrupted by the float) but it is an AoE that can affect up to 5 enemies compared to the single target of SoH. 3. Not being single target there is no risk for it to be wasted on the wrong enemy due to targeting shenanigans (you be damned Mursaat Overseer!). 4. It is a Dark combo field which means AoE blindness on blast finishers, Dark Aura (reduced incoming condi damage and torment on hit) on leap finishers and life stealing on projectile and whirl finishers. 5. A majestic sound effect like no other in the game :P. Snowcrows did a great job of listing all the possible variations for the build so I definitively suggest checking that guide out.

If you were to read the forums, you would think the rifle was the worst thing added since an engineer's bow. But if you read their comments you can tell the majority of those people don't want to be a support, and are upset the rifle is not some uber DPS that summons a firing squad. The rifle is great support power, something the mesmer actually lacked a lot of, but people in this game have been trained so much to think one way they can't break out of their bubble. Otherwise with a chrono I could keep my entire team alive during bone skinner and not sweat a bit.
the engie shortbow has grown on me. I think its design is uninspired, but its a good weapon now. Its my go to scrapper heal weapon, only swapping to mace shield for when I want something like the block or knock back, and I regularly use it on my heal mech if the fight has phases where ranged heals is helpful. its a good weapon, I just wish it was not 4 functionally identically designed skills.
Fun fact, I run the quickness well elite on alac chrono and throw it in the continuum split then right after. For 20 seconds I am giving quickness and alac along with all other boons. Super powerful in open world where boons can be spotty.

Illustion of Life can help with downed allies that are far, but you need them to be aware that they need to get to your location in the 15 seconds they are alive, so you can heal them once they get downstate again.
Signet of illusions is the most underrated, undervalued, underappreciated utility of them all. You Litterally get a free clone every 10sec, but you get to refresh all your shatters instantly for huge upkeep or burst
woa is probably the only skill on your bar you take regardless of the rest of the build. but for the well of recovery, that's usually taken when you replace restorative matras with medic's feedback + the utility skill feedback for the increased revive speed/ revive percentage.
Mukluk comments about letting Might slip during the demo - he had 15-20 stacks and he never pressed rifle 3, which provides about 15 stacks of uptime alone if used off cooldown.
Look forward to seeing all these setups and build crafting to possibly give me more options for roles to play that fit with my preference for simpler, but effective builds.
Im in no way a pro, but some of the things i noticed the past days: Minstrel gear is so nice, it has everything and afaik someone crunched the numbers and while dps is low your healing and survivability is insane. you can shatter so much with just F1 and F2 the margin on boons is already there anyway. now the rifle 3 is so stacked on might and fury if left untouched (not reactivated) you can just use it and swap weapons and that's 50% of your might+fury. This means you can just unload all r4 +r2 (already 3 illusions for a shatter) and whatever else and then swap back to scepter shield to chill meanwhile scepter can summon 2 clones every 4 sec (with alac) when blocking an attack with scept2 (which is great with minstrel toughness as you usually tank, that only makes it easier) if you need healing coke you just take and spam mantra of pain as it heals so much it hurts the bosses mentally. and you can even help your qdps with Time Warp elite if you don't need the cc, WHOAH sometimes i just feel like i need to shatter more because the clones are waiting for it, but i shouldn't (f3 for cc and f4 for ANOTHER insane stab source) ok sorry, hope the good ol' ranger keeps getting some love thanks for coming to my ted talk
I've been playing a ton of heal chrono since the Chaos rework and rifle just made it even better. I love that skill 3 can be a huge might + fury generator OR you can pop it for chaos aura and some healing. I'm addicted to the chaos aura and the more immediate clones so I typically run staff instead of scepter/shield as the offhand weapon, but honestly I'm considering rifle/rifle since the weapon can really do it all.
I've been a heal chrono main for a long time (since way before the recent rework, even) and it's so cool that we're finally getting some attention and I don't have to try quite so hard just to be competitive lol. I had some worries during the beta but they've all been taken care of so I can now comfortably swap my staff for a rifle which is pretty neat. Still wish rifle was a melee weapon though, it would be have been hilarious since greatsword is ranged. But overall I'm pleased with the weapon and I'm excited to see what kind of nonsense I can pull with the portal.
❤ I definitely think that ANET should make it so that portal is automatically used when characters are down. It would be a game changer for medics and healers
S4 is a great “oh shit” button to press. The trait ‘inspiring distortion’ gives aegis to the party when you use distortion/s4. If you have continuum split up, you can do some crazy extended aegis uptime.
For open world rifle gameplay (and in WvW if you want to lean boonstrip), it's worth considering taking the Domination traitline. With those traits unloading your stocked phantasms caps out vuln stacks immediately which combined with your own might makes your shatter hit like a truck even if you're taking something like Harrier that has no crit scaling. I swap to sw/sh during rifle cooldowns because it's good at maintaining vuln stacks, applying CC, and staying alive while dealing damage. With Chaos/Domination you lose out on passive Inspiration healing but gain a significantly improved ability to heavily swing combat in your favor by loading up on damage boons and the condition that undermines enemy defense. With the added bonus of stripping enemy boons constantly if you're in a situation that calls for it. It's a great build IMO for seamlessly transitioning between selfish solo and supportive group play.
hey quick question , is there any way to get healing meter instead of dps ? like an option for it , cause i cant compare my healing and boon uptime on someone else on the encounter
I love the rifle mesmer! I'm a mesmer main, and seeing you take the skills I'm familiar and fit them to a support role helps me understand how support & boon upkeep work in general. The weapons just came out and you're already making incredible content with them-thank you! :D I do think it would be cool if the skill 5 portal gave both the option to teleport for conscious players and automatically pulled downed players, making it a more concrete skill, however the defensive boost it provides is still pretty sweet. Also I know you won't play rifle mesmer in PvP, however, do you have any suggestions for making a PvP build with it? I quite enjoy being able to cancel-out an incoming flurry of attacks, and I've noticed it's a more reliable way to win fights than being the glass cannon that is Power Shatter Chrono (fun as it is, it's kinda weak). >:)
Also, the focus CC is very good, but you gotta have good timing. Every time i havent played memer in a while i often drop the first part too early or too late to get it in.
Am I doing something wrong? It feels like with rifle, you just don't spawn clones fast enough to keep up the shatters, but i keep seeing that rifle mesmer is supposed to be able to give perma alac/quick though shatters
hey muk, just use flock relic on heal mesmer, its completely busted. u will get 100% swiftness on ur sub between shield 5 and chaos aura spam. flock allows u to just do whatever rotation for boons and sustain, and burn one mantra charge to fully heal ur sub after something like vale guardian green.
It is very good at what it does and very fun to play (IMO) but still has strengths and weaknesses compared to others. Scourge/mech has large barrier, scourge/druid has incredible revive potential for rough pugs, etc. It is a fantastic pick but doesn't invalidate the others.
The Improved Alacrity trait alters the way that Alacrity affects the chronomancer, not anyone else. If it did affect everyone else that way, it would be an instant basically mandatory meta pick... It has nearly infinite trait and utility flexibility especially if you're running rifle for might and fury uptime (rifle 3) and can actually give barrier (also rifle 3, but you activate it early). There's also a trait option that reduces the effectiveness of your mantras (they don't heal others as well, but you have Wells so that might be fine) but it gives Feedback the ability to revive people inside of it, which is a mild ranged revive. Not as good as scourge (which would probably be nicer on boneskinner, because you can yoink downed people out of danger) but still has the option if you'd like. Biggest weakness is HANDS DOWN the inability to provide core boons without an enemy target...
I mostly use well of action or at figths with insane conditon I use the condition cleans mantra (but with this build and the rifle you condi cleanse with every heal ability. Also F3 has also CC. kept 7 peeps (including myself) alive at Samarog with people which did really bad dmg XD. Also at Slothasor I could keep people full live standing in the poison and when he gave conditions I cleansed the group in secounds. And as tip for the heal Mantra I keep one charge usally and only use it at high conditions or if my healbursts are on cooldown, then it´s way more valuble in my opinion. Also I use the shatter abilities way more often to have almost the whole time alac on myself and keep everything up easily and if the group needs alot heal i can give it, also to keep up stability the whole time. btw, the rifle is insane for Deimos Handkite, thats really easy
Basic attack is just warrior rifle animation and sound, very low energy. They could make a trait on inspiration to do, rifle skills give area stealth for cool strats, putting It with the focus reflect one.
You can try the heal well if you are against a stationary boss. It does wayyyy more healing on demand than mantra. I also really want the rifle 5 to allow more than 1 person to be able to port through it
I would use staff instead of scepter unless you are tanking. It does decent damage and the clones are really nice + easier to keep swiftness/regen up, and can use flock/monk relic instead
It's really depends. Scepter shield/focus is often so much utility that it feels bad swapping off it. But it really depends on the fight. If you need the blocks you will miss it. If you don't, it's often better to swap to another weapon set. For example, staff or dagger/sword. The beauty of chrono is the crazy amount of options you have to tailor your build for what you want/need at that moment.
It's so overloaded, and I love it. Protection, Might, Vigor, Alac/Quickness (even with the quickness trait you generate a bit of Alacrity from shatters), Aegis, Stability, Block (Scepter/Shield), Feedback, Portal, Invisibility, Condi Cleanse, Swappable traits to give even more Condi Cleanse or an extra Aegis from Manipulations.. I can swap around Rifle, Staff, Scepter/Shield depending if i need more Phantasms, Healing, Clone generation, and if I need to tank Deimos i'm obsessed I can't stop playing it
Completely agree with what you said about the mesmer's versatility. Want a DPS ? Condi virtu, bleeding goes brrrrrrr ! Want a Quickness DPS ? Power chrono. Oh sorry, you said alacrity ? Let me swap one trait and I'm good. Want a Quickness healer ? Again, chrono. What are you saying guys ? Oh, come on, you already asked for alacrity earlier, there's no way I can change my quickness healer to an alac-BOOM I CHANGED ONE TRAIT, YOU GET ALAC HE GETS ALAC EVERYBODY GETS ALAC ! WvW Roaming ? Make your choice. WvW Zerg ? Feel my stab and my portal bombs. And don't get me started on the focus' pull, 1 year after I still enjoy watching my ennemies getting pulled from the other side of the map. Thank you for the great review Muk, I will definitely replace the staff by a rifle for my heal chrono
ChronoHeal is the best healer in game right now imo. I was playing Staff/Scepter/Shield and it felt good already, now it almost feels too smooth🤌🏾 A comfortable and reliable build is staff/rifle with mantra of recovery/mantra of concentration/well of action(or something else)/well of precognition/gravity well. Always have regen/chaos aura before buffing your allies. Keep up chaos aura as much as possible, it increases your party's damage! (shatter 2, staff 4, staff 2 in chaos field from staff 5, wells or rifle 3). Never detonate your rifle 3 so it gives might. You shouldn't need to detonate it as it is an emergency option.
I play this build since it released and I'm having an absolute blast. I'm not sure what's your struggle with hard carrying a group, but I have no issues with it (guess that depends how long you play this build tbh!) It's amazing how this group can even hard carry through fractal CM's while being a cc bot or stab bot or whatever else you need. I enjoy it more than Druid (my ex-main heal) at this point xD I still prefer Druid for solo healing tho just because glyph of stars as a panic button.
Man- been playing this after qHB.. and its so easy. That being said- watching you heal seems so much less frantic than when I do it. I feel like I'm hitting all buttons at all time- and hoping for the best. It works.. but its far more stressful.
That's a funny thumbnail. The rifle is so good in pvp. I can actually heal people from a distance (the healing Well is not that helpful when people move a lot). The ambush skill from mirage rifle in wvw with a superior sigil of stamina can allow you to spray heal everything all the time. I'm really happy with the rifle and the toolkit it provides. I was reluctant to replace shield/scepter because they provide good defenses but i believe the trade off is worth it.
I'm glad it's a fun and really viable support build but I wish it would maybe do a tiny bit more damage, then again I mostly play PvP so maybe it's better this way, I wouldn't know.
The one thing I want to mention that I didn't see in the comments yet: you always used f1 with 3 clones and like all others with no clones. But since the boons don't depend on the number of clones you should always use f2 with 3 clones. F2 on chrono specifically has lower cd the more clones you have, so better uptime on vigor and alac/quick
Also f2 gives Chaos aura which gives random boons, your main source of swiftness (unless you run relic of febe), and it gives regen. And shatters in general give prot. So dozens of reason to use f2 always with full clones. The only other shatter that kinda needs clones is f3 if you need cc
I wish druid would get more utility, seeing how many utilities mesmer has makes me wonder if there is a reason to play druid, if i can get all i want or need with heal mesmer
As a druid main we get a lot of various utility, in different forms. - white tiger gives aegis - turtle pet has projectile block - jacaranda can near perma immobilize - fanged iboga can pull things - search and rescue can pull a downstate - glyph of the stars can aoe revive on short cd to name a few
if only the rifile 5 could work on downed allies that could help save a dumb dps who stood in a red circle for too long lol also there is the mimic of life ( i think) where they get up for 15 secs and rez them selves if they kill a mob so if there are lots of mobs etc they could in theory help a lot
I enjoy Raids when they are chaotical... Had fun W7 where only Quick Herals upkept 100% Quickness and rest of the boon where horrible with double heal chrono 😅 I don't know how you give 2 might on average for 5 people as Chorno on Sabir? The Commander tough we failed the CM because we died to the constant projectiles from whisps but actually we failed because slow CC and bad boons 🤣 but that is why I always will prefer low KP to no KP groups instead of 200kp which do all 7 wings in 3 hours I rather spend that 3 hours in W7 holding my stomach from laughing too much...
I must say, as a wanna-be support I really enjoy these videos! Will you maybe make a video for all your decent support builds on different classes at one point?
I really love finally having a good heal build on mesmer, especially with chrono (i would've loathed to see it being on mirage because that spec still gets reworked every or every other major patch and that's annoying. I feel like anet is content with the space chrono occupies now).
I already did in the videos before this one: Staff zerker: ruclips.net/video/-arx0pR897U/видео.html Staff bladesworn: ruclips.net/video/qj4_X-TZwp4/видео.html
Dude, please unblock me ingame already, this is no longer fun. Monarch.7241 Btw im playing heal Chrono thanks to your video and its amazing in fractals, havent tested it in CM's yet, but when I have heal chrono in the group its performing far better than having a healbrand. I dont know if it's due to the players playing both professions or just the profession perks itself. Heal Chrono ramps heals slower, but more frequently. It already feels like master healer for CM's and its far less dependant to the group dpsers ability to skip mechanics with damage. Healbrand atm starts to struggle due to the tomes redesign which was kinda like hammering nerf, heal Chrono has no such issues. I literally crafted the full gear and weapons for the sake of having heal build on my Mesmer.

now the rifle 3 is so stacked on might and fury if left untouched (not reactivated) you can just use it and swap weapons and that's 50% of your might+fury. This means you can just unload all r4 +r2 (already 3 illusions for a shatter) and whatever else and then swap back to scepter shield to chill
meanwhile scepter can summon 2 clones every 4 sec (with alac) when blocking an attack with scept2 (which is great with minstrel toughness as you usually tank, that only makes it easier)
if you need healing coke you just take and spam mantra of pain as it heals so much it hurts the bosses mentally.
and you can even help your qdps with Time Warp elite if you don't need the cc, WHOAH
sometimes i just feel like i need to shatter more because the clones are waiting for it, but i shouldn't (f3 for cc and f4 for ANOTHER insane stab source)
ok sorry, hope the good ol' ranger keeps getting some love
thanks for coming to my ted talk
Extreme damage field used to be extreme, now its the only one worth testing in. Healers are op now
opinion of minstrel instead of giver? or more like a combination of both to reach wanted concentration?
I wish you would've talked about when to use the shatters. I saw you spamming them without clones up. Is that how it's supposed to work?
Relic of the flock syncs up perfectly with mantra of recovery for even more heals/barrier not like its needed but still, MOAR GREEN NUMBERS :D
hey quick question , is there any way to get healing meter instead of dps ? like an option for it , cause i cant compare my healing and boon uptime on someone else on the encounter
I love the rifle mesmer! I'm a mesmer main, and seeing you take the skills I'm familiar and fit them to a support role helps me understand how support & boon upkeep work in general. The weapons just came out and you're already making incredible content with them-thank you! :D
I do think it would be cool if the skill 5 portal gave both the option to teleport for conscious players and automatically pulled downed players, making it a more concrete skill, however the defensive boost it provides is still pretty sweet.
Legitimately the funniest thumbnail I’ve ever seen 😂
I don’t even play Mesmer, I’m just here to say that
hey muk, just use flock relic on heal mesmer, its completely busted. u will get 100% swiftness on ur sub between shield 5 and chaos aura spam. flock allows u to just do whatever rotation for boons and sustain, and burn one mantra charge to fully heal ur sub after something like vale guardian green.
How well does it work under water when you lose rifle and wells?
I Take the healwell when I run the feedback resurrection trait.
Can't wait for your Herald and firebrand videos. I really like Mesmer, rev and guardian and seeing this support makes me happy :)
Why not chaos aura instead of the protection trait?
Is there a playlist with all the new heal weapons and your attempts?
Probably should do rifle 4 then Moa for break bar because of the cast time.
Agreed
With the super-alac that this gives along with the good heals and cc, do you see this becoming the default top pick for heal alac?
Super helpful video, thanks!
Can a downstate person use the teleport on mesmer rifle 5?
I use rifle staff am I doing it wrong ???
3skill is an easy ethereal combo into chaos aura if you're running chaos traits, but that's for if you're running something with condi
This now concludes that any problem in GW2 can be answered with a gun.
Awesome build but i switched from chrono back to scourge for condi cleanse in fractals and barriers for cms.
Now that I saw you making those thumbnails, I know I'll have to search for easter egg on each next one.
you do need soto to use the new weapons right ?
Yes, that is correct
Is staff as your off weapon worse to scepter/shield ?
It's really depends. Scepter shield/focus is often so much utility that it feels bad swapping off it. But it really depends on the fight. If you need the blocks you will miss it. If you don't, it's often better to swap to another weapon set. For example, staff or dagger/sword.
The beauty of chrono is the crazy amount of options you have to tailor your build for what you want/need at that moment.
Heal Chronomancer definitely looks fun and I want to try it even more after watching this
It's so overloaded, and I love it. I can swap around Rifle, Staff, Scepter/Shield depending if i need more Phantasms, Healing, Clone generation, and if I need to tank Deimos
i'm obsessed I can't stop playing it
Completely agree with what you said about the mesmer's versatility.
RIP Mirage
My biggest annoyance with Chrono is that I can't provide alac, quickness or other boons effectively or even heal constantly without an enemy present.
ChronoHeal is the best healer in game right now imo. I was playing Staff/Scepter/Shield and it felt good already, now it almost feels too smooth🤌🏾
A comfortable and reliable build is staff/rifle with mantra of recovery/mantra of concentration/well of action(or something else)/well of precognition/gravity well.
I like that heal chrono ❤
I play this build since it released and I'm having an absolute blast. I'm not sure what's your struggle with hard carrying a group, but I have no issues with it (guess that depends how long you play this build tbh!)
It's amazing how this group can even hard carry through fractal CM's while being a cc bot or stab bot or whatever else you need.
I enjoy it more than Druid (my ex-main heal) at this point xD
I still prefer Druid for solo healing tho just because glyph of stars as a panic button.
I don`t play instence PVE but i am loving these videos.Great job.
Liked video just for the thumbnail.
Man- been playing this after qHB.. and its so easy. That being said- watching you heal seems so much less frantic than when I do it. I feel like I'm hitting all buttons at all time- and hoping for the best. It works.. but its far more stressful.
My chrono doesnt show power break
That's a funny thumbnail. The rifle is so good in pvp. I can actually heal people from a distance (the healing Well is not that helpful when people move a lot).
The ambush skill from mirage rifle in wvw with a superior sigil of stamina can allow you to spray heal everything all the time.
I'm really happy with the rifle and the toolkit it provides. I was reluctant to replace shield/scepter because they provide good defenses but i believe the trade off is worth it.
A Chronomancer Mesmer with Chronophantasma can also use the Rifle Phantasm [which stuns] like 6 times, so they can be insanely good.
I've been trying rifle out in WvW and it is fun. I'm terrible and still feel like I'm helping the group out. lol
I'm glad it's a fun and really viable support build but I wish it would maybe do a tiny bit more damage, then again I mostly play PvP so maybe it's better this way, I wouldn't know.
Now that warrior has a dedicated support, anet might stop thinking 'but it deals damage, that's all you need, right?'
I really want to play this, I just need to convince my brain to finish the story to get access to the rifle.
I wish druid would get more utility, seeing how many utilities mesmer has makes me wonder if there is a reason to play druid, if i can get all i want or need with heal mesmer
As a druid main we get a lot of various utility, in different forms.
- white tiger gives aegis
- turtle pet has projectile block
- jacaranda can near perma immobilize
- fanged iboga can pull things
- search and rescue can pull a downstate
- glyph of the stars can aoe revive on short cd
to name a few
Dont forgot the nice Staby on f4
if only the rifile 5 could work on downed allies
that could help save a dumb dps who stood in a red circle for too long lol
also there is the mimic of life ( i think) where they get up for 15 secs and rez them selves if they kill a mob
so if there are lots of mobs etc they could in theory help a lot
I use Relic of the flock instead.
The mesmers have converted their most ardent critics. This is the future ANet wants
Chip noti squad
Omg this looks fun
won't work for WvW....
To clarify, I was only testing in PvE
Why is no one making a video about Shortbow Engineer? llmaoooooooooooooooo
I tried it for about 45 minutes. It is a real pita. I will try to make a video on it when I spend more time with it.
I'm doing a "tour" of sorts through all the supports right now, so more videos like this are on the way if you enjoy them.
It’s health industry, not care
I really love finally having a good heal build on mesmer, especially with chrono (i would've loathed to see it being on mirage because that spec still gets reworked every or every other major patch and that's annoying. I feel like anet is content with the space chrono occupies now).
Phoebe 💀
That fkn thumbnail 😂
Please try staff warrior please 😅
I already did in the videos before this one:

Btw im playing heal Chrono thanks to your video and its amazing in fractals, havent tested it in CM's yet, but when I have heal chrono in the group its performing far better than having a healbrand.
Nice title.. not.
