The really strong and distorted bass in the chorus is supposed to come across as really disorienting. Billie has said it was supposed to sound like how it feels to be suffocating in second-hand smoke.

Her videos always make sense as an art form. Billie creates concepts by herself. She imagining every frame as a picture. Both of her parents are talented and she was really into photo in early age. Made some strange, but beautiful and creative photos of her rubber toy horses in the backyard.
Cigarette in the face, in my opinion, symbolises the cruelty of the world and how on Xanax you do not care even about extreme things..
Based on her comments, I'd say it symbolized her feeling like an astray when going out with friends that were smoking and stoned on drugs.

ive seen her live and it was an outdoor concert and you could hear her perfectly. she sings out a lot more when perfoming live except for her slower songs. those always have a more intimate sit down setting where she just sits close to the mic but you can hear her just as well as you do when shes jumping around and going hard

I've been on the only Billie Eilish concert at my city. 99% of the audience were teens. Teens with parents or alone. Us, 25-35 yo adults, get acquainted quickly. We felt as rare species.
She is so hype right now, so the orgs were forced to change the venue from the 5000 seats club to 50000 seats arena (2nd big in the city).
She had a nice young US DJ as heat-up before the show. I was wondering about the sound too. She admits that her voice is not so loud overall, she cannot bolt like some other singers.
But is was OK. Sound designers did their job. Her singing was as breathy as in her records. Close to mic. She danced and moved on stage still managing to sing perfect.

Composing a lyrics with each other and adding sound effects from the surrounding normal life of their parents home. Knives and so on.

I think in this song the content /lyrics are really relevant to her musical and cinematic choices. Love to hear you combine your musical wisdom with the philosophy of the message she's delivering. I know it's a "reaction video" but I think it's still fair game to read the lyrics before you watch and reflect on them, just because it would add so much depth to the resulting "reaction video". She does sing right up on the mic because this song (along with nearly every song she’s recorded) was recorded in her brother’s room in their parents house, which has zero soundproofing. I’ve noticed with her brother’s solo music he keeps his vocal higher in the mix than most music like he does with Billie’s. It makes it feel like they are right in your ear. But there are whole concerts of hers here or RUclips or you can check out her performance at the American music awards last month if you want to see what she’s like live. Incredible performer

She is a very good stage performer

Bad boy, for the "duh" part, she and her brother recorder her saying that over 30 times, and it took a year to create the song to completion. She and her family are super musical and she does love the classicals, she loves Frank Sinatra. And the way she sings is the way she's always done, it's just how she feels like manipulating her voice to tell her story. Her brother is the producer of the songs but Billie and him work on everything together. Everything she does is at the same natural AND very intricately produced. She can have a base song and lyrics but it takes ages for her and her brother to complete a song cause they both see the song going in a million directions so they end up taking their time to find the right balance. She uses things like random objects to make sounds she likes, her brother makes it work somehow. That's how they work XD and she's super SUPER non-creepy irl, she's super sweet and funny. But the songs an artist makes and videos and such don't always mean it's about them or their aesthetic, in her case is more in regards to tell a story. You should react to Aurora's videos, you'd either looooove her, or love her 🤣 the production of her songs and the way she sings and make videos is incredible. Would love to see what you think of her

In regards to how she sings at the end, iirc one of her friends had just died a few days prior to recording and she said it really affected how she sung in this song, given they had died I believe from an od, also all the distortion was supposed to make you feel uncomfortable like you were sitting in second hand smoke.
With that distortion clipping her voice, what's she's doing is having her voice tremolo at the same frequency as the bass in order to outline it

This may or may not translate but I played the trumpet and French horn in hs and a big difference was that because the horn needed more air to play, I had to exaggerate my articulation. Might be the same with her singing style?
