TBH, I’m a first member to support RT as a whole but I hate navigating and using the site so 99% of the content I ingest from AH and RT is on RUclips for convenience. I’m happy to watch longer content but a lot of the newer content hasn’t appealed to me (the new members are great though). I miss weekly GTA (even if only to get back to some racing) and Minecraft (the longer form build stuff is the best) and am pretty much only consistently watching the gmod stuff and hoping for a return of Raft or some Gang Beasts.
These are my sentiments exactly. I would be lucky to go to the RT website 3 times a year, I just can't find what I want easily. The navigation and design of the site is in desperate need of a rejig and stop trying to get us to watch all of your channels. I know you want everyone to watch all the channels on your site, but I've tried all the other stuff and prefer all things AH. ...and I prefer the longer content, but would prefer to watch on YT because I can find the content more easily.

There is a reason to why Viral videos is around 3-15 minutes.
yeah its not that people prefer or dont prefer, its that the yt algorithm is skewed to shorter content. I think alot of the fans do prefer the longer videos, but ive defiantly missed some cuz it just doesn't show up on my feed.

I'm fine with long videos, and I do NOT want to have to navigate the extremely poorly designed RT site to find all your content. It doesn't matter to me that you're not "surfacing" here on YT, I check both your YT channels manually every day. But I'm sorry, the RT site sucks. I don't think you need to pander to people whose attention span can't pass 15 minutes. Who are these people anyway? We live in a world where people love movies that are 90-120 minutes, and binge entire seasons of television in one sitting...

Actually research shows that most people who watch movies also do so on "bits" more and more.
Shorter movies outside some juggernauts do better. Tiktok is a global phenomenon right now and it's clearly the way the majority want to dissect entertainment. Even Netflix and other streaming services are rising prices because people are NOT binge watching as much as they used to
Society as a whole attention span is getting smaller and smaller. They'll spend hours going through things but it's separate things now.

@@shawnbelcher7135 Thanks for the informed response. It just seems so bizarre to me...if I'm into a show I tend to keep watching until there isn't any more. Don't think I've ever not watched an AH vid to the end. Even if it's a game I'm not into they're still always entertaining.
I prefer longer videos honestly. 30-45 minute is the sweet spot for me. And I check what AH/Rt has uploaded all the time, I'm just not interested in much of it and when I do watch something, I just get turned off by the actual content sometimes. All the forced goofy shit, annoying voices, and dumb scripted stuff doesn't work. Just you guys being yourselves is funny. Trying to force it is not.
I think that 50% that stops watching at the 12 minute mark is because they click the video, try to watch it, but just aren't entertained by the content. I don't think it has anything to do with the length of the video.
For sure agree. I think that's definitely the case most of the time and they don't want to address or believe that the content is actually bad, but that it's just too long to sit through. Good example being the uno let's play that's almost 3 hours long with 10 mil views, or even the 2 hour long fuel video.

This could be only me but it took me around 6 months to get used to Jeremy when he started appearing in videos and then I loved him in content. When I see so many new faces in a video I almost immediately switch it off to go to Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, or one of many other channels I watch because personally I am not used to these new players and don't have an interest in hearing them yet. They seem great and I'm sure I'll like them in the future. Right now it feels like watching a video from a channel I don't know and I would rather save to watch after all my other regular creators. Let's Play went from my most watched channel to like my 8th at this point.

You can sit and talk about algorithms all you want, when you stop putting your best people in videos, people aren't going to watch them as much. It's literally as simple as that.

I’m also a first member and I really dislike navigating the website. I think app is so much worse and impossible to find anything. I basically only use the website for the post shows and stuff like camp betrayal or survive block island.
Simple things to improve the user experience and convenience would go a long way. Being able to play something, switch over to another app and have it still playing in the background would be huge. I also think the watchlist function needs an overhaul. If you go crazy one day and add too many things, it takes hours to delete things or rearrange things on there.
But with that said all the content is great and I love everything that you do!

The thing that I missed most is the 2 hour long Off Topic, other than that everything is A-OK with me.
I think they made the wrong assumption regarding viewer's drop off on a video. It's not that viewers (and im speaking for myself I guess but I've seen other share the same opinion) want shorter videos because they prefer that, the drop off happens because viewers are checking a video out and seeing that it's not enjoyable and so exiting the video. And with not enjoyable i mean that the video is either over-edited or just plain loud (a lot of screaming and constant bits make a video not interesting to me) or both. These are not want the viewers want, or again at least it's not what I want. I think that's why Challenge Accepted has been so welcomed and been a favorite for most viewers. Those videos let the cast have fun with each other by just talking and the occasional game shenanigans. Those videos don't rely on the quick cuts or the "Hey I'm doing a bit to make this funny" shtick.
I don't think the length is the problem, I think it's the chase of the algorithm that is causing the decline. Corporate wants their numbers, but I watch for the people on the videos and when they don't want to be there, neither do I.

I think it's enlightening hearing Alfredo talk about how he himself consumes content (skip anything over 20 min/watch 10 min of a video then move on to the next). Of course if the people at AH like to watch videos in this way, then this change makes sense, regardless of algorithms. You should make what you yourself enjoy.
I'm sad that all this is the total opposite of how I like to consume content but I guess that's just what it is.
I don't think the cause is the videos are to long. I think it's the fact that you have a new cast ( which may not have the same connection especially with the older (age) crowd, playing games that have been out for ages so have been done to death. Plus some videos are just not that funny or engaging from the start so people just change the vid.

It's funny they say they feel the need to change and evolve their content to fit with the times while their views have steadily been on the decline. imo it's quite the opposite; instead of trying to appeal to ppl who have never even watched their content, they could be appealing to the old audience who has mostly stopped watching if they just went back to the old format that made us all love AH in the first place. Been a fan since 2012 but unsubscribed in recent years bc of the quality of content becoming so poor, quick and short is not what made me love AH, but the long videos of friends chilling and playing video games together. Miss that kind of content.
Same here man. I didn’t want to but we barely saw Michael, Jack, Geoff, Gavin, and Jeremy now. I do like Lindsay, Trevor, Alfredo and don’t mind them in videos. But, the content has been boring. I feel Iike Ky, BK, and Joe are the main stars now. People will say “you’re racist because you don’t like them!” Not to mention their content has just been GMOD and Minecraft. It was painful to unfollow them but I just don’t enjoy them anymore.
@@EmmureMARIO64 exactly, and it's genuinely upsetting that some people's first instinct is to call the criticism racism, when it has nothing to do with that and they are the ones bringing that viewpoint into it. It's unfortunate but things will never go back to how they were bc the company itself is so far from that style of content. Everything feels so corporate and forced. When Geoff had his hand in AH it was great, but now it's just something else entirely, which is completely okay just not for me anymore.
They are talking about the RUclips algorithm, not the audience.
Except again they don't just have the their own numbers they have other industry reports that show it IS shorter content

Many who watched in 2012 don't watch for many reasons that have NOTHING to do with quality. Their adults now who taste change. You won't get them back.
Most people don't keep the same taste for decades and decades, more so when they were kids when they started.
What worked before will only keep die hands around and die hands won't improve their income.and eventually they will stop to be it through death or other life circumstances

If the RT site didn't suck ass and was even remotely usable on mobile or console browsers I would use it more. At the moment though I would rather conserve my sanity than try to navigate that hellscape.

Is it Time Warner? Somebody is giving directives that doesn't understand how crappy the RT site is and thinks they can strong-arm viewers. I'm guessing it's some old guy going by what he knows.
They have to do something. They are dropping well over half their views in less then 15 minutes that means the rest of the time is wasted resrocurs
RUclips isn't viable if only a few thousand people watch the whole thing and the rest leave in the first 15 minutes
With the site they don't lose money on the time.
I let my First subscription lapse because I couldn't cast from the app to my TV to watch. I wasn't going to watch First shows on my phone. RT doesn't have a "Living Room" app for Samsung Smart TVs. Now, I won't be able to watch AH content on RUclips? I hate to say it, but I probably won't see anything from the channel anymore then... I started watching in the early GTA V days, it's been a fun run.
I love the longer content, but the app works so poorly I'm a first member watching on RUclips instead.

When talking about cutting/removing content. All I heard is that more content is going to be only on the RT site. I prefer NOT to go to the annoying site AND app, just for SOME videos of the day.
I prefer RUclips, because all the content that I watch on YT is in ONE place.
When AH/RT completely moves to only the site, that is when I am done, at that point there would be no point in watching AH/RT, since I am only interested in some of the content that they push out.
Example, nowadays, before Survive Block Island w/ AH and RT crew, which is solely exclusive to the site, for a game series... that's uncool, I get it for high production series like Haunter or the like, but a series that only uses a game for the production? That's extortion.
Speaking of, I honestly stopped watching Minecraft, as I realized that I loved it when they did a series like Stone Block or Sky Block, that is just a realization, not a harp for the "ol' days" where there's uh an unethical (former) member.
I unfortunately get that you/they HAVE to act and see corporate, but, in the process, you start to lose yourselves, your spirit as to what makes you entertaining in the first place, why you became so beloved and successful.
Speaking of losing viewer retention, spoiling one of, or the best bit that's often later in the video, definitely kills the surprise of the best or funny bit, by putting it in the first couple of minutes of the video, yes obviously it's funny, but when finally getting to it, the entertainment value is lost.
(Another example) It's like those cliche "(x time) before" stingers in a show or movie, where the pay off is not worth the wait, just start from the beginning, do the middle, and then the end, otherwise it's just wasted fluff, to pad time.

Talking about them spoiling content by having a big moment edit at stat. As they said the avg person doesn't make it 15 mins. If they don't put it at the start then odds are the avg viewer won't see it.

Y'all missing the mark. I stopped watching, not because I'm not seeing the content. I stopped seeking it out because the stuff I loved about your content is gone. I hate to put it on the new people but I haven't been given a reason to invest in them. Those long videos of Geoff and Gavin just building shit and talking made me care about them as people. The RT lifes that let me see people playing around. Old content had people, the new content is just content.

I'm not necessarily against shorter videos, but I hope that doesn't mean that they'll be over-edited down into a disjointed mess. I've seen a few videos lately that have felt like that, but I'll hold out hope that those were hiccups from the transition and not the new norm.
Totally agree. Watched a TTT recently that was an absolute hot mess. The disjointed cuts made it unwatchable. Halfway through a round and cut to the middle of the next. Never saw how a round ended. First AH video I gave up on.
I think it's to do with what videos fit the shorter format for example YDYD minecraft doesn't suit being 20 min but for Challenge Accepted it's perfect. You'd be surprised how much say the old 7 Days videos were edited and broken up compared to when they post a raw stream now I won't be bothered to watch.
But I do gotta say I've had to turn on notifications because their videos don't get recommended to me like at all even tho I want to watch. So what can they do algorithm is king. As long as it's quality I'll watch
I totally understand the reasoning for shortening the content in increase views. But honestly, if the new content is like the new YDYD, AH is going to lose what views they have. I love AH, but I dont think I could watch and enjoy a 15 -18 minutes video even if Ray and Geoff came back. It's not enough time for AH's humor to land.
I understand that you have to evolve with the times and the way entertainment flows, but I hope it doesn't all morph into something unrecognizable. Reasonable to try new things and see what works, but it would be a shame if All the long-form content goes away.
Oof. That Halo series. Unlike Jack, and as someone that read the books, the first 20 minutes were just about right for Halo. The Covenant taking no prisoners and killing all humans ruthlessly, right on point. The books are incredibly graphic. But its after that point that the series lost me, and I stopped watching 45 minutes into the first episode.
i'm sure you guys have a stronger understanding of all the behind the scenes so I respect whatever choices you make for your content, as long as it makes you all happy since you're the ones making it, I personally enjoy the longer content but I can understand maybe more consistent video length may be helpful on youtube since pretty much every youtuber I know has a separate podcast/stream channel to their main content channel

I also haven’t watched anything RT and AH at all in the past couple years. The thing is, I still watch and prefer long form content. I mostly moved away because the content doesn’t resonate with me anymore which is not their fault. I know this might be the case because I watch their older content from time to time.
I wonder though, if it’s possible that they just treat the RT website itself similar to how other creators use/publish content (or extra content) in Patreon.
It’s a shame that the website and app are absolute dog, I’m a first member but hate using them.

Length never bothered me in videos on RUclips, if I like it then I like it, and I'll watch it. People leave because they don't like how it's edited, not because of the length. It took time for me to get used to Jeremy and all of them back then and they ended up being amazing. The recent people don't really fit the vibe, and not just because some of them literally barely played Minecraft before being in episodes. That makes it more frustrating than enjoyable. They also just kind of yell a lot and the editing doesn't give us the down time that Minecraft always was known for. On top of the crazy antics. I would know, I started watching the Minecraft (and content in general) in 2013. It's different but I still do genuinely enjoy the Minecrafts. Look back at SkyFactory 3's videos. They're really long and some literally have a million views. So yeah.
Clearly people watch the RT and AH podcasts despite the length, so that's interesting too. Maybe people do like it regardless. They like it when it's good.
That's just my take on it though, tbh.

I get it you don't have the time if you on break at work or something but don't you finish the rest of the video once you get home or something?? Or does RUclips not track that?? Cause I've done that. Watched about 10 min of a 30min vid had to stop to get back to work and then finish it once I get home.
I hope Trevor watches the Halo TV show completely. It picks up speed in the first half. Those last few episodes were quite interesting. Jack and Alfredo clearly don't know what they're talking about. Jack talking about violence - what a completely ignorant comment with Hollywood all around him. Alfredo is slow and his comments are super mediocre. The man expects a human being to be in armor all the time, even outside combat situations. The show could've done without the nude scenes and romantic angle. Building the lore was cool. Wish they didn't have to make an entire different 'timeline' with so many major changes, though.
Edit: Also, for Jack to basically say "I can play Halo with my nephew but not watch the show with him." is so hypocritical, even more so when you consider that he'd most probably be fine with watching the movie Lightyear with him. So does that mean he draws some arbitrary line for violence but that no one should draw a line for gender issues?
I miss the some of the classic style content and the repeat games like GTA, Minecraft, Gmod, the Raft, Regardless of "continuing stories' or just maps and Races- I don't care about length and I've really enjoyed the new cast. I wouldn't mind some short contents in the ~15 min window but I really don't like using the RT apps or site, its not fluid enough to get to the content that I want. I've been a first member for years and I only open the app once a week at this point to watch Block Island because i really don't like using it. there were also so many issues with it on the xbox for so long that i don't check there at all now.
I like bite sized episodes but with longer series. I think with MC right now it feels like so much has been cut and it's a little rushed whereas I'd like seeing just the usual long MC vids but split up into parts

Every single comment being about the format change, whether positive or negative, literally just proves the point. Nobody is talking about marvel movies or anything after 20 minutes. That being said, I personally love long content when it’s done well. I wish FFace was longer. I love the era of 4 and 5 hundred RT podcasts that are long as heck. I even love the hour long challenge accepted videos. But I get it. Do what you gotta. I’m a first sub too for now I’ll do that I guess.
I WATCH THE 40min PLUS CONTENT PLS DONT STOP
as someone who has been watching since 2013, evolving isn't always a good thing. I now find myself watching more of the older content than newer released content. Back then Geoff made sure the content that they were releasing was actually funny and enjoyable if not they wouldn't release it. Now with the "schedule" part of it, they release content to meet the schedule without it actually being entertaining or having "funny moments". Videos back then used to have many personalities that played well with each other. Sometimes it would just be 6 idiots having normal conversations about anything while playing video games and it would be entertaining. Idk i just hope that in a year or 2 achievement hunter will be where they once were because the newer content is nowhere near content from even 2-3 years ago let alone 2013-2015
Amen sir! I had unsubscribed/unfollowed them on Ig and FB. It was heartbreaking to do but I’m just not a fan of their new stuff. We rarely see Michael, Jack, Gavin, Geoff nowadays. I’m okay with Trevor, Alfredo, and Lindsay as I think they’re talented people. But then the crew took over as well always and always playing GMOD, Minecraft, and videos have been stale. I find BK, Ky, and Joe not funny and try way to hard to be funny and are loud. No I’m not racist I’m just saying an opinion.

don't normally watch much content unless it has like +2 of the old crew or else most the conversations tend to tapper off into things I have no interest in.
Which means you have aged out. The old crew can't do everything forever so they have to find new fans.
They won't gain fans by doing the things that drew you in first. Times have changed.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but as much as I enjoy your longer form content, as I’ve gotten older and taken on more responsibilities I just don’t have the time to watch like I did as a teen and in my early twenties. So I’m actually excited about having fun cut down versions of content, because I can still have time to watch a few full videos.

Look, I get that you guys need to change things and have videos be shorter on RUclips but the issue with that is that the RT site IS GARBAGE. Legitimately any time I use it I have to essentially fight the website because it doesn't work properly, doesn't have basic features that are needed, or just outright isn't user friendly. There need to be drastic improvements to the site before I'm comfortable using it more.
To speak on the drop offs in video watch time, I legitimately only stop watching a video if it feels forced or just not fun. The last few lets roll videos I stopped watching half way through because I got the idea of how the video would be like 10 minutes in. With the FNAF: Security Breach videos I stopped watching because it just felt like the videos were repetitive. Do stuff you guys want to do and will have fun doing, because you need to understand that when some big hit new game is out that is literally all anyone sees and it gets extremely annoying to see 16 different videos of the same game.

I feel like it depends on the vids, like personally I don't like watching 7 days stuff so I won't watch them but gmod and Minecraft and even gta I do, the new shorter time I'm not a fan of because sure I can go to rt website and watch longer ones there but the app is so bad, half time stuff don't load on the app or vids won't play and its made me uninstall it multiple times, I do feel like less time vid on yt will lose subs too

Unfortunately i find myself agreeing with Jack (@8:10) and having to accept that I am no longer their target audience. I loved their older stuff. Up until "He who shall not be named" had joined the cast, I found myself happily looking for and consuming almost everything they made. Once that happened things started to dive into the Over-acting and just a sense of trying too hard to get laughs and it began to feel disingenuine. Lastly, it's just been an overall trend that they rely more and more on screaming and loudness for laughs and attention. It's a sad moment when you realize that you have diverged from the direction that the content creators have gone but i still cherish the memories. Jack, has always been my favorite achievement hunter.

I always appreciate the heads-up on algorithms and data analytics, and I'm totally here for shorter content from AH, I enjoy having a few episodes for something longer, or just a few shorter videos that are more to the point.
Still love the lonnnnng stuff for streams, or if there's a bit of a return to let's watch I'd be here to watch for 40+mins
FunHaus is doing a great job of shorter videos, clearly very edited, and I'm enjoying that, every video is fun.

All the comments saying "Oh I love longer videos" genuinely mean nothing, like I get wanting to make your voice heard but the fact that there's a huge dropoff after 15 minutes already shows we're the minority. You can never make everyone happy because both types of fans (wanting longer or shorter content) exist on both RT and RUclips.
Love how they'll listen to this but still not bother with captions on their site or transcripts for their podcasts. The content here will get shorter and worse and still be the only semi-accessible option, and it only counts as semi-accessible because autogenerated captions are crap. It's so ableist.

I rarely have time for the longer content so I love the idea of shorter form on RUclips. Whenever I actually have time to sit and watch full videos I always open up the old RT first anyway.
