Josh might be even more talented. He can play almost every instrument but the band only needs a guitarist. In terms of guitar, John is absolutely a virtuoso but guitar is even not Josh’s main instrument. Josh is more into rhythmic instruments like bass, vibraphone, and drum (watch Chorzow 2007, there’s a drum solo by Chad and Josh) but Flea and Chad’s positions are so firmly based. IWY, IBY, and TG are all great albums, but if you listen carefully you will find flea has more places to show off his bass and even keyboard techniques: he didn’t intend to show off tho. He had to make up for what Josh’s guitar cannot offer. Same for OHM: in Aeroplane, the verse is built on bass while Dave’s part is pretty easy. In the band’s early releases, Flea also added more hardcore slaps cuz Hillel was not a very mature guitarist.

I understand the situation and I'm glad John is back. What I sometimes wonder is that why most of the time it's about "replacement", this guys are proffessionals and all good friends, why there can't be 2 guitarrists? I know for a fact RHCP always had 1 guitarist on their line-up since forever but did it really had to come to someone getting kicked out? I'm pretty sure having 2 guitarrists on the band could be pretty great and live performing wouldn't be an issue at all. Take for example Iron Maiden, their star guitarrist Adrian Smith left for a decade so they hired Mr. Janick Gers; when Adrian decided to come back, instead of kicking Janick they all decided to continue with 3 guitarrists on their line-up, and that has played a big factor in Maiden still being a force to be reckoned with 40 years after their debut. I'm pretty sure that at their ages, with their experience and with their close friendship there wouldn't such things as "unbalance" or "egos clashing" so Josh being kicked out without them thinking about an "Option B" is kind of a puzzle to me.

That's the the thing Josh: I don't think there was anything you ever could have done to make it an impossibility. I don't think you ever had a chance in that regard, the only thing that would have made it impossible would have been John not ever wanting back in or the chili peppers not wanting to work with John again, the latter being pretty impossible itself. Of course RHCP calling it quits altogether could do it but that's not gonna happen if there's a chance to do another album with John before they throw in the towel and go out with a bang which I think might be the case. As soon as the refutation of the former reason become a reality, there was no way you were gonna stay in instead of John, it's obviously nothing personal, the possibility of John re-joining was always the thing that could have trumped all else, it was out of your hands, nothing you could have done to change that.

My feelings exactly. John is obviously extremely talented and made great music with the Chili Peppers, but as soon as I heard about him rejoining my first thought was "let's see how long it takes until he quits again this time". Josh probably would have stuck around forever if he could, but it's only a matter of time until John leaves again.
My other thought is that this also makes me sad because as the weirdo who loves One Hot Minute, Josh actually was willing to play stuff from that era. It was probably only Aeroplane, but it was still great to hear that underrated gem again, and that definitely won't happen now.

I enjoyed those albums as a stand alone thing from the previous work. I understand that John has chemisrty with those guys, but Josh was a much more stable, reliable team member. That should have been valued a little more I think. It's unfortunate that John can't seem to stay on the wagon and be more of a rock for the rest of them. I have a feeling Josh will be back. I don't think John can keep it together for very long. If there's a new album, I'd love to hear it.

I love The Getaway, and the Im with you albums, Josh Klinghoffer, I think is cool I’m not saying it to dislike Frusciante, Ik most people didn’t like the new albums, But both Josh and John both inspired me to play guitar, even though I try to play like them, or be like them, I am a big rhcp fan of both Josh and John up to this day and beyond I still listen to the new and old albums of the chili peppers and would probably have a chance to meet Josh or the rest of the chili peppers someday, even though Josh is out of the Chili Peppers, he will always be a Chili Pepper.

The main problem here is that a lot of people don't relasize that if you have the chance to bring back one of the greatest artist/guitarrist of all time you DO IT. Josh is a great musician but he is a SESSION PLAYER, not a lead guitarrist for a band like RHCP. He also admitted himself. He also said that a lot of coincidences put him in the RHCP. We all know John is a wild card, but everyone would risk on him again and over again.
Josh was the safer choice to be hired as placeholder in case John wanted to be back again.
The 2 albums with Josh are mediocre at best, because even if Josh is a great musician he can't be another John, simply because he is a Session Player, not a superstar. He is good and his talent fits well in his projects, not more.
The last 2 albums reflects how the RHCP of 2020 are...soft and too pop. The real RHCP are not so, and in the 90s early 2000s rhcp josh would have been the john personal tech, not more.
It is so simple. He admitted he is not as skilled to be in that position.
He worked with RHCP for 10 years, made 2 albums, made a lot of money and improved is curriculum vitae, plus the Hall of Fame, without even deserve it, so why complain, he obtained more that what he should had.
RHCP have, in my opinion, 2-3 more albums, because if they made 1 album every 4 years, they are now 58 years old, john 50, so if they made this year a record, the next will be when they are 62, so I don't see them making more thant 2,3 records.
    We'll see.
I don't expect another masterpiece even with john, but considering he made californication after the drug period and the necessity to re-learn to play guitar, everything is possible with a genius like him.

I alsoutly love Josh.. the 2 albums he made with the band were both great and fits well for the chillis style. Way better than D.Navarro with one hot minute. I really wish they kept him as a back up guitarist/keyboard. I wonder if the band will play any of Josh's albums with the band at concerts since they played none of Dave's from one hot minute. I Would love to hear songs like look around, dark nessesities, go robot, sick love.

Honestly, I started listening to RHCP frequently because of The Getaway (3 years ago?) and listening to Josh. I loved him! I loved the way he went crazy playing. I didn’t know who John was yet and I mostly thought it was always Josh. I feel bad for Josh but he had a good run and I hope his career keeps going strong. Glad to have John, sad to see Josh go.
