@Cody Levinson Most anticipated album of all time? I guess you weren't alive when the King of Pop was putting out records. The follow-up to Thriller had people hanging on their seats. Even the next Rhianna album has more fans hanging on than RHCP.
People have to understand that John Frusciante is and will always be a permanent part of RHCP. He has the best chemistry with Flea and some of the best writing and creative minds of thier best hits. Any other guitarists are pretty much just filling in for his absence. I just saw them live a few days ago and I felt the energy and that chemistry between them all. I was totally blown away
I have always considered Furciante the only guitarist that fit right in the Chillie Peppers. The other guitarists played well but there's just a natural chemistry there musically with Furciante.
As per what he and the other Peppers have said: He thought about leaving during the latter part of the Stadium Tour, but it was just a thought. As he saw it: they were on a continuous roll, and he was eager to begin work on their next album. However, the rest of the bandmates wanted to go on an extended break before beginning work again...Here I feel he got depressed and started re-thinking everything. He also saw it as the best time to do so.. Money from 3 top selling albums, 3 sold out world tours, and with RHCP royalties pouring in. He proclaimed he always intended to leave again one day and he saw himself as a studio artist; the touring, music videos, were all just apart of being with a big band like RHCP. He was comfortable, tut then.....he got divorced, and what's been leaked to the media he had to pay a lot of spousal support and legal fees. With this, he was open to returning if they would have them (He hinted at being open to the idea in one interview in like 2016). It was John who reached out to Flea (similar to the first time return, John contacted Flea out of the blue just completing rehab and was broke) and they welcomed him back. I feel like there was some other issues between John and the band that are private but has since been resolved.
It really was wasn't it, Navarro is such a phenomenal guitarist that really played well, musically, with all three of the other musicians in the band I wanted so much for them to do more together, instead they opted to sell themselves out by going banal pop...
Never understood the hate for One Hot Minute. That’s actually my favorite RHCP record. I can’t think of one song I don’t like on it. The other records have some good songs but I usually have to skip a bunch of filler tracks. From start to finish One Hot Minute is doesn’t lag one bit.
It's just inversions. You think it's better than all the other albums because it resonates with you. They think it's not the greatest because the other albums resonate with them. Different styles for different people. Then there's the odd duck who likes them all.
I remember seeing them live in 92 here in Ireland for the BSSM tour. It was their first ever Irish show . Absolutely blew my mind . However despite the energy of the show you could not help but notice John looked like he'd rather be anywhere but on stage. As mentioned in the Vid he quit a few weeks later. Mothers Milk was my introduction and that to me was the spark that lit the fuse. Can't say I get the same thrill from their newer output. Couple of return to forms or glimpse of the old magic every so often.
- I was at the '91 concert, Aragon Ballroom in Chicago...Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins then headliners RHCP, it rocked - I also stayed up to watch that SNL appearance; even back then I was like WTF?
Quick fact check: Frusciante claimed that it was the producer's influence on Mother's Milk that gave the album that "metal" guitar sound. He really wasn't happy with that kind of guitar playing being a fan of Jimi Hendrix, which is why BSSM sounded so different: New producer Rick Rubin empowered John to put more of his creativity and guitar tones into that record (BSSM). - Great video otherwise! 👍
I will always like MM and Uplift Mofo produced by Michael Beinhorn .I still like the old Punk/Metal / Funk sound .I guess I'm too old school.Still have a hard time warming up to the new stuff Their new material is just a hit and miss .
Yeah, when John left the second time. It was because he was full of ideas, but the rest of the band were exhausted from touring (Stadium Arcadium tour). So they wanted to go on a well deserved break. Unfortunately, John thought it was a good time to continue his solo projects and ended up devoting all of his time to that. Saying it was a dream of his to do electronic music. And just for the record, One Hot Minute is a great album. Rock out with your sock out!!
I feel like Zappa would've been really good for him. He was able to bring the best out of a musician and would've encouraged him to experiment, also probably would've prevented him from getting into heroin.
There was a bit more animosity associated with JF’s second departure than what is revealed in this video. The press releases at the time certainly didn’t tell the full story.
I think there was still some tension with flea that started during the making of by the way. Most likely Flea wanted to keep going they way they did before (nothing wrong with that imo) while John wanted to push them in new directions
Retro Unicorn he was asked to do something specific and he executed the job... there’s been many moments where josh K saved kiedis on stage. He’s a great player
@@jigrodrigues His ex wife robbed him in the divorce too. He's not exactly the type of guy who pays attention to finances. If it weren't for RHCP, he'd be washing dishes.

I saw them twice as well, 1x with John and 1x with Josh. While Josh was doing a great job I couldn't help but compare the two shows. When John was up there it was a different energy, it felt so much better, I can't even explain it.
Serious I like One Hot Minute and Dave Navarro's Contribution on that album your video is on the 🇧🇬Trending tab! Let your fans know with a community post.
Its awesome but his personality is not, I think he didn't knows even what he wants, now he is back and it's sad how they kicked Josh, but everyone new that John didn't like the idea of playing with him as a former member of RHCP.
Even if he is good, he sounds like everything that’s wrong in the rock&roll world being an asshole, taking decisions by how much pleasure he gets and no compromise with himself or the band he is playing in, I Hoppe he has change for the better over the years as the other members of RHCP have.
He was the youngest of all them, still a teenager! He was exposed to everything at once and it was “okay” it was just too much for him as he said. How does he have no compromise for himself or the band he’s playing? That doesn’t make sense. I wouldn’t expect a weeb to fully understand real life experiences, I truly recommend you go face reality and get a grasp on the real world
My dudes, chill. I was just pointing out the stereotype of the old rockstar. As the video said he chose the RHCP because he could do drugs and party over other opportunities. When I say he has no compromise I mean when you are in a band you agree to play the songs and the tours. If you start to change your part of the songs without anyone else knowing you are jeopardizing the performance and the success of the band in live performances, this also goes to quitting mid tour. As I said in the end, I don’t know the full story but I hope he is doing better and giving the fullest of his talent. I don’t know his story, I’m just talking in the context of the video we all watch I’m sorry if the notion is wrong, there is no need to be so salty le whitey.
@@lewhitey2544 "He was the youngest of all them, still a teenager!" He wasn't a teenager the second time around. Frusciante is an excellent musician with superb creative instincts and there's little doubt that RHCP are better with him. That's a shame, because he's one of the most selfish assholes the music world has ever seen.
I don’t think he’s a diva at all. Just an artist who needs to be able to express himself in different ways. The band respects that. John definitely took that band to heights they would never have seen otherwise. They way he approaches sound, as a guitarist, is unlike any other guitarist other there. Uniquely to him. Like Hendrix is unique etc.
@@Bye_Good I’ll agree to disagree. I understand the need to express yourself and do your own thing but i stand by what I said. His arrangement with the band is odd. He is allowed to come and go as he pleases and whoever is in “his spot” at the time be damned. With that said I love his playing too but I wouldn’t put him in the Hendrix category of originality nor innovation on the instrument. Definitely a great guitar player and BSSM is an album I learned a lot from. But there are guys I prefer that run circles around him in the technical and creative side of playing. All my opinion of course, it’s all art after all!
Dave Navarro gets a raw deal for One Hot Minute when it was a decent album a lot better than By The Way. I think the other guys using Dave as a scapegoat for the reason One Hot Minute didn't do well then was rather shitty of them i mean who helped write the songs who approved them? The band and their label so...
I think Navarro is a much better guitarist and remember when I first heard him in Jane's Addiction.... his playing just was so distinctive and soaring. I'm actually a guitarist/musician myself and never particularly cared for the RHCP with the exception of One Hot Minute. I've never thought John's playing was anything out of the ordinary.... its most good but not really something that I would call outstanding or great.
did you forget his slew of solo records put out after californication? his first one of home recordings, the drug album thats hard to find, his stint with the Mars Volta and even his Trickfinger stuff?
I’m pretty happy Frusciante left the band in 1992, and the band went to make One Hot Minute which is an outstanding record. Blood Sugar and One Hot Minute are the best RHCP records in my opinion.
I got to hang with him and Anthony on the Mother's Milk tour in like 1989 or 1990. Anthony had injured ribs but John was cool. He showed me black tortillas for the first time. He was about the same age that I was and not pretentious at all.
@@MrMastrsushi Compared to what ? Other RHCP albums ? Sure, yet more successful than mot other bands out there at the time. And with 3 or 4 singles on heavy MTV rotation
@@magusking9215 So as long as they are more successful than less successful artists it doesn't matter that they weren't as successful as they previously were? Got it.
Californication was still a great album while BSSM may be their best musically. Everything that came later fell short. When By the Way came out I was shocked by Kiedis attempts at singing in this mellow pop-voice most of the time. A true letdown that I took almost personal back then, ha ha. And it has stayed that way. This super soft charming singing style ruined many songs on Stadium Arcadium too and the later albums. For me they tried to sell out even more from By The Way on. The edge is somehow gone. And Frusciante couldn't do much about it by recycling his riffs over and over again. Maybe that's another reason why he has left...
For someone who wanted to keep playing to an audience of 20 people at clubs it is pretty ironic he he got mad that Madonna didn't notice him :D I mean, wasn't that what you wanted? To live in obscurity.
So glad that Frusciante returned! I hope that they're working on a new album! BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIK turns 30 next year & I think (hopefully) that the band should perform that disc in it's entirety! Or maybe, just maybe a 30th Anniversary edition of BSSM in the form of a boxed set!
@@PhreakPhantom I've looked but cannot even find a video of them playing the song One Hot Minute anywhere. My favourite song of the album/discography. I wish they went dark again, but I think mentally they're too much in a good space to go dark again
Frusciante is the MAN!. Such an outstanding musician. He plays music like he's reciting poetry with notes for words, as colours, emotions, creating a setting & scenario. During his first break from the band, after he cleaned up & just managed to save his arms....yes, his arms almost had to be amputated to save his life from his intense addiction, a guitarist. Obviously he didnt lose them & he made his next solo album "To record only water for 10 days", his 3rd solo album & kind of garage/raw but not rough & outstanding imo. He then recorded 6 albums in 6 months! I personally love each 1, they each have an individuality & their own tone & soon followed those albums with a full length release (as if the others were'nt) called "Shadows collide with people" & another awesome album again. He's released more solo albums & collaborations since as well as Chilli Pepper duties. Dudes the real thing.
I still listen to The Uplift Mofo Party Plan and Freaky Styley like they came out yesterday. Over their debut and anything since, those albums are just funky as it gets. Hands down.

John Frusciante is one of my fav guitarists ever but what a brat! Money, success, I would trade him for my life anytime. I was an aspiring musician and would have done anything to make it
Eh, some people want to stick to their own self. Kind of like Elliott Smith. He said, "I'll never make it big." then when asked about it he just said I'm just not the right kind of guy for that. He was more quiet and kept to himself. He got bigger after Good Will Hunting came out and he couldn't cope with it very well either. He didn't like the fame.
@@williamcatalano1762 Doesn’t matter I’m from the ghetto and I tell you I would sell my fucking soul to the devil to get the fuck out of this dead end life
I feel like the kerfuffle between Mr. Bungle & the Peppers was more about Anthony being jealous of the fact that Bungle did everything the Peppers could do except better. Plus Mr. Bungle's musical diversity was something Anthony wished the Peppers were capable of doing.
I still dig Mother's Milk the best .That album introduced me to the Peppers and I like the harder edge Metal Funk sound that seemed to have more dynamics for me .
I have heard this "Frusciante would have played for Frank Zappa's band, but instead joined the RHCP" thing before. I don't buy it one little bit, I seriously doubt with the talent zappa packed in the 80's that Frusciante would have made the cut. Zappa toured 3 big tours in the 80's 81 band: Steve Vai and Ike Willis 84 band: Ike WIllis and Ray White 88 band: Mike Keneally, Ike Willis Mind you, Zappa also played guitar so he was performing many of the guitar solos in this band (not as much with the 88 band). Ike Willis and Ray White were both excellent guitar players and vocalists that were cornerstones in Zappa's 80's band sounds. Frusciante was too young to tour with either the 84 or 81 band, but I seriously doubt Frusciante was competing with Mike Keneally in the musical capability department. The whole "Frusciante almost joined Zappa's Band" is total false cred imo, especially with how he carried himself on tour with RHCP and his brutal drug habit. This wouldn't have been Zappa's first tour, and I seriously doubt these Red Flags would have gone unnoticed. Beyond the fact the Mike Keneally is an insanely good mult-instrumentalist, and only the best of the best made that '88 band.
Nope. Frusciante went to the waiting room and didn't actually meet Zappa I think. He turned away because he realized he couldn't do drugs and fuck girls in Zappa's band. He probably would have gotten the job though, he doesn't display it often but his skill & theory were insane from a young age
I gained extra respect for Frusciante, when he mentioned he was a NEU fan! No surprise he was hoping the Chili Peppers would remain an underground band and only play clubs filled with people that actually loved the music! There's something discouraging about a band getting popular and seeing band t-shirts worn only because the kid next door sees other's wearing it. Commercialism at it's finest!
if none of you have ever checked out Frusciante solo work that he made instead of playin in the chilis you're truly missing out. John probably would be dead if he kept playing with the band after BSSM so I'm just glad he got clean and is still here today he always gonna get extra points in my book for not giving a f*** about fame
All the debates about John Frusciante, Dave Navarro, and Josh Klinghoffer when Hillel Slovak was the real GOAT for the RHCP. Best lineup, for me anyway, was the Uplift Mofo Party album with Jack Irons on drums and Hillel Slovak on guitar.

Lol the first time i saw them live, John was still in, the other headlining band was the foo fighters, and the opening act was bicycle thief. So i got to see both John and Josh play that night, just not in the same band lol (Chad also jumped in on drums during the foo set. It was a surreal night lol)
Frusciante only plays stuff he wrote with them. That was a contract condition to doing live gigs. So fuck everyone that loves the songs with Josh and Dave right?
@@PhreakPhantom I read interviews with the guy in Guitar World years ago, and he was the original snowflake. As shitty as that is for the fans for him to include it in the contract, I'm not surprised.
@@Damocles54 you lucky bastard, that show must have been awesome
Lol what might have been a real high point in the show, Grohl wandered out among the crowd a bit, on his back to the stage he grabs this guy's beer. When he gets to his mic he goes "what? Im good for it"
Then later Kiedis told us our lukewarm response to Bicycle thief was ignorant and we were lucky that such a good band would even bother playing in omaha.

Don't quit good bands to make terrible, boring solo albums!!! Drugs are fine.
I've never understood the hate for "One hot minute", I love that album, it's always been one of my favorites from RHCP.
Their best by far.
Music is very subjective. Just like Frusciante's taste in RHCP is very subjective... One moment he hates them. next minute he's playing for them
@@Rose.Of.Hizaki yea I heard he refused to play any song from the One hot minute album too lol

There really is a funkiness to it that is undeniable.
Yep. Mine too.
Any love for Uplift Mofo Party Plan?
It changed my life as a 17 year old when it came out. I lived with that album. In my car, bedroom, walk-man, ..it was the soundtrack of my becoming a adult. A masterpiece.
Go check out the full under the bridge on Saturday night live video. Keidas gives a huge death stare towards the end of the performance. I legit thought he was about to fight John for that lol
FLW Videos not sure if you’ve read his autobiography “Scar Tissue” but Keidis goes pretty in depth about that performance. At the end you can actually see Keidis kicking Frusciante lol.
@Cody Levinson lol yeah man I forgot that it was during stone cold bush not UTB but almost RIGHT after I wrote that comment I found the stone cold bush video and was too lazy to delete this comment lol much love man 🤙🏻
Nice to see you here FLW!! 2 of my favorite Channels.
@Cody Levinson Most anticipated album of all time? I guess you weren't alive when the King of Pop was putting out records. The follow-up to Thriller had people hanging on their seats. Even the next Rhianna album has more fans hanging on than RHCP.
How can you see it? NBC owns the rights and they don't like to share.
Great story. I admire John’s honesty about himself. His highs and lows would have changed anybody, but he is still who he is. Rare.
Uh, Hillel Slovak???
100%
One hot minute is a GREAT album! The critics don't know $hit!
Ok
I agree
Critics never get shit right.
It really was wasn't it, Navarro is such a phenomenal guitarist that really played well, musically, with all three of the other musicians in the band I wanted so much for them to do more together, instead they opted to sell themselves out by going banal pop...

One hot minute is a great album
Never understood the hate for One Hot Minute. That’s actually my favorite RHCP record. I can’t think of one song I don’t like on it. The other records have some good songs but I usually have to skip a bunch of filler tracks. From start to finish One Hot Minute is doesn’t lag one bit.
I'd be hard pushed to say there was a single filler track on by the way. Literally every song could be the lead single on it
@@Arrica101Truly a gorgeous album.
Sure they didnt make it to Ireland for the Mothers Milk tour? They definitely played in England because I saw them.
- I was at the '91 concert, Aragon Ballroom in Chicago...Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins then headliners RHCP, it rocked
- I also stayed up to watch that SNL appearance; even back then I was like WTF?
That's true, and the producer of MM (can't remember the name) forced Frusciante to layer on most tracks, which he didn't like much either.
RHCP: PLAYING ON EARTH
JOHN: PLAYING ON MARS LOL
Currently bingeing your vids bro!.. love it!! Cheers from the land of Aus!! 🤘🏻🇦🇺🤘🏻
His solo stuff is amazing.
I saw RHCP in their prime, Californication tour, with Foo Fighters OPENING for them. John sounded fine by me, they put on a hell of a show.
BSSM was prime Cali was sugar on top
There was a bit more animosity associated with JF’s second departure than what is revealed in this video. The press releases at the time certainly didn’t tell the full story.
I thought it was an amicable split as well, what did you hear about his second departure?
@@CallowaySchmidt I had heard that he no longer wished to play guitar, instead pursuing ambitions in electronic music.

I cried for hours when they announced John is back last December, in some ways I still can't quite believe it
Dude?
As a massive Frusciante fan I think you shouldn't idolize anyone that much.
John Frusciante is my favourite musician, but I also love "One Hot Minute" a lot!
John Frusciante is one of the best guitarist ever, and the best one for R.H.C.P.
Hillel will always be number for me
Its awesome but his personality is not, I think he didn't knows even what he wants, now he is back and it's sad how they kicked Josh, but everyone new that John didn't like the idea of playing with him as a former member of RHCP.
Great guitarist, bit of a bell end.

"He was the youngest of all them, still a teenager!"
He wasn't a teenager the second time around.
Frusciante is an excellent musician with superb creative instincts and there's little doubt that RHCP are better with him. That's a shame, because he's one of the most selfish assholes the music world has ever seen.
I love John’s playing but I can't deny the dude is a huge diva.
He's actually the mist down to earth celebrity out there today. Super chill and kind.
@@ittybittyshoeshine I’m sure he’s kind but artists can be wishy washy
He's not a diva at all. He's a heroine addict whose drug use fried his brain.
Its funny that Keidis said he didnt know what key John was iin, considering he couldn't hold a note without scaffolding!
He sounds like the quintessential example of, not everyone is made for success or to be handle success...
john seems like the type who just needs a break from rhcp every few records.. he always comes home.

I’m pretty happy Frusciante left the band in 1992, and the band went to make One Hot Minute which is an outstanding record. Blood Sugar and One Hot Minute are the best RHCP records in my opinion.
Great video. John Frusciante is a very interesting, enigmatic and sometimes frustrating character.

I got to hang with him and Anthony on the Mother's Milk tour in like 1989 or 1990. Anthony had injured ribs but John was cool. He showed me black tortillas for the first time. He was about the same age that I was and not pretentious at all.
I thought Dave was in RHCP just didn't know much about it.

He is not underrated in the slightest. He has legions of fans worldwide. 😂
I would argue Dave Navarro is way more underrated, even more if you talk specifically about his time with the RHCP.
OHM "not well received" - only in retrospect and by fans who arrived with Californication.
No, it was a commercial failure.

I have heard this "Frusciante would have played for Frank Zappa's band, but instead joined the RHCP" thing before. I don't buy it one little bit, I seriously doubt with the talent zappa packed in the 80's that Frusciante would have made the cut.
Zappa toured 3 big tours in the 80's
81 band: Steve Vai and Ike Willis
84 band: Ike WIllis and Ray White
88 band: Mike Keneally, Ike Willis
Mind you, Zappa also played guitar so he was performing many of the guitar solos in this band (not as much with the 88 band).

Best guitarist they ever had after Frehley.
John probably would be dead if he kept playing with the band after BSSM so I'm just glad he got clean and is still here today
he always gonna get extra points in my book for not giving a f*** about fame
All the debates about John Frusciante, Dave Navarro, and Josh Klinghoffer when Hillel Slovak was the real GOAT for the RHCP. Best lineup, for me anyway, was the Uplift Mofo Party album with Jack Irons on drums and Hillel Slovak on guitar.
So, is he still the official guitarist for the band? I saw Klinghoffer a couple of times. He was great.
