2024 Toyota Tacoma Review // Return Of The Mid-Size King
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 ноя 2023
- The 2024 Toyota Tacoma ($46,950 starting in Canada, $34,700 starting in the US) is a brand new iteration of the popular mid-size pickup. New for this model year are several different trims - each customized for their intended purpose down to suspension options and features. Two engine choices will be made available, both hybrid and gasoline with a 2.4L turbo 4-cylinder. The non-hybrid trims make a strong 278 horsepower and 317 lb ft of torque, with a maximum available towing capacity of 6500 lbs. But how is it to drive? And is a mid-size truck all the truck that most people truly need? Thomas and James are excited to find out! We hope you enjoy the episode. And then subscribe, silly.

"why do they call them 4x4 and not just 16?" Love it!!
"Why is it okay to kill vegans for their leather but not cows?" 😂💀
"Do cars run out of honk?" 😅
The "Swiftie" one... He really should clear the search history.
Can you say NO CAP in all caps to cancel it out?
What does roommate mean by “our toothbrush?”
You can definitely tell Toyota lifted its embargo. Just got 8 notifications for this truck's debut. Of course, I started with the definitive car channel.
Same. The search list had me laughing! 😂
🤣🤣🤣
I didn't know because this is the only car channel worth following
Same...8 notifications and i'm watching throttle house first.
Ditto
Probably the best personality duo since old-school Motor Trend with Camisa.
You two are always a joy to watch
It’s like old Top Gear, but less mean-spirited.
How does a RUclips channel have higher production quality than the likes of Amazon and BBC? TH, you are amazing!
James' search history was hilarious. You guys always hit it out of the park.
“How do I hide being a swiftie”
😂 🤣
Do cars run out of honk?
@@EOCAliterally the long unanswered question
@@thedylan1956 they used to!
Do horses get their power back after cars die? 😆
I replayed the fall over 5 times and I still can't tell if it was scripted.
Same lol
Scripted. Look at the line in the dirt from a previous attempt
The fact that nobody around him reacted at all tells me it's scripted, still funny..
Totally not scripted
Scripted. They wanted to do something similar to what Jason Camissa did on Hagerty's video about the GR Yaris and GR Corolla. 😅
You guys rocked this review! Great job! Subscribed, loved watching, and was entertaining immensely while learning tons of info! Kudos!
I replayed and paused (a couple times) the intro just to read the search history, you guys never disappoint!
I legitimately almost spit out my coffee all over my office when I read“Do cars run out of honk” in the list of Google searches during the intro from laughing so hard. Those were genuinely hysterical and made my day!!! Plus your reviews are legitimately the best and most honest out there… you guys are number 1.
"Most cars apparently never out of honk".
It’s the one I can’t read on the 5th try with a straight face.
Which is funny cause I once literally watched a car run out of honk, someone laid on the horn for 5 min behind a delivery truck, by min 3 it sounded like duck having the life squeezed out of it
I lost it at that screaming eagle sound!
My car atm is definitely out of honk
I hope Billy has learned from his mistakes, I mean James learned that you don’t drive with old tires in a Ford GT.
He’s a master at spinning out lol
Billy would make an amazing Mustang driver.
Naaaa he will never learn, j.. Billy will always be Billy
I am thankful for the opening minutes of this video. Simply brilliant. 👌🏼
What I find amazing is that one day, all these cars we see coming out today we will see in a used car lot in 20 years and they'll be the same as seeing cars and trucks from the 90s and 00s in those same lots now. We will still say, "look how far we've come".
That's deep. Is that Chomsky?
Amazing camera work on Thomas's fall and even better on your roll recovery! Seamless!
If that was scripted, it was beautifully executed.
@@Ducatista189 I think that was a nod to him falling when reviewing the FJ Cruiser. That one was NOT scripted lmao.
4 cylinder turbo, what a time. Im glad to see the manual option sticking around for another generation!
Yes and the 6 speed is only available on the most expensive model.
@@bmstylee nope its available on the cheapest SR, but it seems to automatically upgrade the 228hp engine to 270hp ( not a bad thing)
otherwise on the TRD Pro and Off road, it downgrades the engine from 326hp hybrid to the same 270hp. the most expensive linited is only hybrid /automatic
kinda makes sense, the manual can be choosen either for economy/simplicity or for better control in offroad versions
this gets sold in central and south America and over here we NEED a stick shift is due to mountain roads and actual utility reasons so thats why they keep offering
@@bmstyleeToyota Tundra 2024 TRD has 6 speed gearbox.
@@geemy9675Tacoma TRD PRO has the same bhp like Supra RZ 1997.
All 5 of the car review channels I subscribe to dropped a Tacoma video today. This is the only one I’m going to watch. Thanks guys and keep it up!
Why these guys know very little about cars
I can't believe you guys one of the few guys who actually recorded the sound of the turbos. Thank you. I might have to trade in my 2022 trd offroad premium for 4th gen taco 😮😅.
For real, I 100% believe they used James' actual search history in the opening segment.

Unreal meat riding
As an Australian, those prices are mind blowing, compared to what we pay locally for our similar-ish vehicles.
What would the price be in Australia?
Doesn't the 300 Series cost like over 100k over there?
@@edombre4637The Taco isn't sold anywhere else outside NA, but they do have the Hilux. It starts from $23,590 AUD ($15,000-ish in USD) for the base Workmate variant up to around $73,000 AUD ($48,000-ish in USD) for the highest spec level GR-Sport Hilux.
@@mokseee yeah, the 300 starts at $95,000 AUD before on-road costs (taxes). The range topper Sahara starts at $135,000 AUD (before on-roads).
They would consider the Hilux as a compact pickup
This is what I have been waiting for. So glad I got my deposit back on the 2023. . Great review guys and absolutely hilarious too.
Love the turbo wastegate flutter takes me back to when everyone in Australia had a Nissan Skyline
This channel has become my favorite car review channel by far.
That slip at the begginning was perfect. Great recovery/acting!
I've had so many customers ask me when we're going to get these in or be able to order them at my dealership. Glad to finally see them coming
I’m really glad you showed how Harrison fits. I’m 6’5” and I put an order in for a TRD Sport+ (manual) a few weeks ago to replace my Ranger. Hopefully the ergonomics for the third pedal and shifter aren’t horrific for tall people like the previous gen. From what I’ve seen here, I’m cautiously optimistic.
Yes this is a crucial thing that I appreciate them for, that seems to be lacking most everywhere else.
Thank you for your service! (Buying a manual). You're a real one for that
@@NathanaelNaused haha, thanks. The Taco will be my 4th new vehicle purchase and 3rd manual - only my current Ranger has been an auto, which has upsides (remote start primarily) but I miss driving manual daily and I don’t know how much longer stickshifts will be available in vehicles I’d daily drive. (I’ll try to keep a 3-pedal car alongside whatever I daily for as long as I can, when I do eventually go electric).
@@upshifter5316 it’s honestly a pretty niche thing but I appreciate it nonetheless.
Best of luck with the stick shift Tacoma! I am not as tall as you, but I bought a second gen manual Frontier because I too really didn't interface well with the previous gen Tacoma's ergonomics.
I don't even care about Trucks, I really loved the Tundra AS SOON as I saw it, but this one, smaller, not as expensive but still nice on the inside and reliable? I LOVE this. ❤️❤️
THIS WAS THE CAR ON THE TURBO AUDIO? WOW 🤯🤯
I replayed the fall multiple times too!
Well done Thomas!
Crazy where your channel is now. I started watching 7 years ago, when I watched your tutorial on how to remove an E46 Clutch Delay Valve (and did it on my E46 afterwards) 😂
That is a really neat truck! And amazing review as always! Poor "Billy", getting his poor decisions broadcast to the world, though 😂
The fact that that is considered“mid-sized” is so crazy to me
What are you 4’5” ?
Was looking for this comment lol
Small acceptable truck for a man
@@thedarkgreenvanman I don’t really need to compensate for anything by buying a massive truck only to have the bed empty most of the time like most truck drivers.
in the US most call it "compact"

This my favorite channel. Your guys comedic timing and honest reviews continue to push you all to the front.
I'm still sat here wondering if that fall was scripted.. made my day :D
@@loganthome I died 😂😂
Today is a good day, my two favorite RUclips channels (Straight Pipes and Throttle House) each released a video on a truck I'm considering buying. Btw the intros to your videos are always funny, but this one takes the cake. James never disappoints 😂
I'm glad this was discussed as I've been completely baffled at why "full-size" pickup trucks keep getting bigger when they were already the biggest consumer vehicles on the road. No one needed a bigger 1/2-ton truck, so why did they buy them? If you needed more power and towing capacity, you could simply buy a 3/4 or 1-ton truck instead of larger and larger "1/2-ton" trucks which have completely outgrown that classification. "Stupid" is exactly the right word, so thanks for that.
I currently drive a 2011 Silverado and a co-worker parked his new Ranger next to me.
It's bigger than mine and i think my Silverado is too big.
I guess I'll be moving "down" to a mid-sized when this one blows up (the AFM is getting really noisy and 4th gear is getting slammy).
This seems like a solid redesign. Great video.
The production is of highest quality. These guys are so talented
It looks like the 2024 Tacoma turbo hybrid has a payload rating of 1709lbs, which is comparable to many half-ton trucks and pretty impressive. If you're shopping for any truck with the intention of towing, check the payload rating on the sticker in the driver's door frame. It can vary a lot based on trims and options.
So does the gen 3 3.5 v6 😂😂😂
Towing is good but the beds have shrunk so much they're barely bigger than a decent ice chest.
Just discovered your channel for the first time. Great job on the Tacoma video!
I’m pretty sure Thomas meant that Toyota will sell a lot of these across the U.S, Canada and Mexico, because I’m sure the Tacoma isn’t sold anywhere else
Pretty much, because outside the NA market, the Hilux is king.
yup. anywhere else, the Hilux remains the top dog of pick-ups.
No, you're wrong actually, it doesn't only sell in those places, but it also sells in California.
@AbrahamArthemius they are going to merge the Hilux and Tacoma Platforms in the next gen Hilux. It will still be called a Hilux, but it will be sharing the same platform as the Tacoma, the TNGA platform.
@@99toyotacorolla only because they don't sell the Tacoma over there, they separated the platforms, but not anymore, next-gen Hilux will be on the same platform as Tacoma.
I've been saying trucks have gotten too big for years. I remember when my dad's friend had an older Ranger (US, before taking it away and bringing it back much bigger) and it was a great size little truck. And good looking
My dad had an '85 Ranger and it was pretty much perfect. Now he has an '88 Comanche he won't sell me (understandably).
I had an '88 K2500 that I only drove when I needed to tow something/fill the bed with dirt/mulch/gravel, and it blows my mind how small it looks compared to modern trucks.
Not to mention that bigger vehicles is also a lot more dangerous for everybody else on the road. Especially cyclist and pedestrians
My 03 Tacoma was a ton of fun. I got way too far down many a side by side trail in that thing. Its tippy size and gutless engine were the best parts about it
Truth “mid sized” my ass
Little known fact, trucks have been getting bigger thanks to the EPA. Opposite of what you would think. The smaller the truck, the better the fuel economy needs to be to not get fined. When you get down to the size small trucks used to be, the necessary milage is just unrealistic and would make it too expensive for what it is. So the alternative is to make them bigger. That's government logic for ya.
6:30 thank you! I let it slide when he told you to get in but no not the second time! 😂
Perfect cold open, great work as usual
Even with all the praise you guys get, you still don't get enough! Thank you for spoiling us with amazing content. Please never stop! 🇨🇦🍻
Let’s goo Harrison I see you champ Yas love you. Thomas nice action roll and not one hair out of place incredible.
I really hope that it would be as reliable, and low maintenance cost as the last generation! Blessings to the throttle house team! Keep it funny!!
I like the blue pieces on the interior.. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!
That fall was legendary, absolutely legendary
Damn the tundra should have gotten these features
Exactly
On god
What features ?
Throttle house is the best!! Thomas and James!! Thanks guys!!
0:26. Watched on my phone. Good review. I am now watching the Search History Gag on a large screen monitor. Bright as a button !
Hahah that fall was so smooth. You guys are great btw. “…coma…?”
I bought a 2023 Tacoma 9 months ago, it has been a great truck. I got the 2023 knowing the new one was coming. I figured that if the new Tacoma was all that much better, I could wait a couple more model years for them to shake out any bugs and then trade in. I'm reasonably sure it will be fine. By then, all the me first buyers will be gone and you might be able to buy one for a decent deal.
I’m thinking the same thing. There’s no way I’m paying $53k for a limited without AVS or hybrid… it’s going to be over $60k fully loaded
I have been anxiously awaiting the chance to drive the TRD Sport. I may be in the minority here, but that trim with a modest lowering/leveling kit may make a great street truck, with the coil springs and street dampers.
“Billy don’t know *bleep*” 🤣💀 I love you guys. Also loving the new Tacoma!
The intro had me rolling 😂 mostly because I’ve genuinely thought about 70% of those searches to myself 😂
That slip and fall definitely reminded me of the time Clarkson's leg fell through the ice reviewing the Lambo Urus! 😂
This channel is next-level on production and scripting.
liking the truck design specially the inside layout ... Thx for sharing, kool presentation and neat perspective to justify the full size price tag on this... @F150 cornering comment > 😑 ...
You guys finally put Harrison up front 14:49 in a car!!!! As a tall person appreciated, the problem with the old gen Taco was I couldn't fit. Seeing someone else taller up front makes me look forward to a manual Tacoma in the future.
Now we need a review of the new Ranger. Would be interesting to see the comparison as the Ranger was created mainly for markets outside North America
100% true on the size comparison. I parked my 2000 Tundra next to the latest tacoma at work....theyre damn near the same size
Yup, just that for the full size, the cabin dimensions are always way better, even tho looks same size, the full size old gens are way more roomy compared to new gen mid sizes
Funny thing is the Tacoma has been the same size since 04
Awesome video. I have a 2021 TRD Sport Tacoma. I love it and if I were to upgrade to another Taco, I might go after the offroad version.
I'm super excited for this. Gonna pick up a manual. Was told it'll be a bit of a wait, but it'll be worth it
Head room was the only thing that had ever stopped me from getting one but now it looks like i can potentially ditch the full size and get this of course once they dont have dealer mark ups
These modern midsize trucks hit every sweet spot nicely. They can be a everyday driver, homedepot project maker, carpooler, date night etc.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Limited starting @ $53.5k
2024 Toyota Tundra limited crewmax 4x4 on sale now at many dealerships for $58k.
Who in their right mind would buy the taco?
@@Phil42069
Youre looking at it the wrong way
Its not about the price difference
Its about the fact that if you have a size 10 foot you have no reason to buy a size 14 sneaker just because a size 14 is priced similarly to a size 10
This is for people who need a midsize, not a fullsize
@@Phil42069 Like i said, someone who want something that can do it all, without the big size of a full pickup. There is a reason why these sizes sell better than the full size pickups.
@@Phil42069well thats quite expensive literally for a Tacoma.
Ok we have to appreciate how great that slip and roll looked. Professional actor right there!
Test drove the new Tacoma yesterday, I currently drive a 2015 GMC Sierra and I wasn't sure how I would feel about the size, but the new Tacoma it's very comfortable and more comparable in size to my 15 Sierra. I test drove the Tundra as well and it is HUGE, I agree full size pickup's are getting crazy big!
I can’t stop laughing now because the intro is too funny 😂👍
And everyone thank California and the cafe standards as for why we don’t have small trucks anymore. r.i.p. miss having the s10 and ranger. Great review guys!!
I have an 01 Taco TRD DCSB so basically this thing minus the 4x4 though I *do* have the diff lock. It's the perfect size and capability for what I use it for. I always think about upgrading when it goes but my baby just...doesn't die. I love my Taco.
Locking diff is worthless. Tell a friend. And bring extra gallons of water for the sand. De nada.
Old Man Emu suspension is made by Monroe in Australia. They have been developing off-roader upgrades for Toyota and other brands for decades. Regarded as one of the best for off- road racing as well.
Thomas is so right, why are people driving in massive trucks when they have nothing heavy to tow. Ideally the Honda Ridgeline should be the best selling truck on the market right now, that's why I have one
hell they don't even have anything to throw in the bed. It's the aesthetic and driving position
They suck
@@papa_pt driving position confuses me, my wife and I got an Acura RDX but you have worse visibility in small spaces despite being higher up
@@davidlake611Americans aren't that smart generally speaking
I had a 19 ridgeline and traded for a 2023. Gets good mpg unloaded and around 15 pulling a sxs on a trailer. People like to say they buy Tacoma's because they want to off-road but I'm over here like why would I want to spend 40-50k on a truck only to tear it up on a trail? The aforementioned sxs costs 1/4 of the price and has more ground clearance and less weight than a Tacoma. That's just one factor for me the other is ride quality. I have a few friends with Tacoma's and they all ride worse than my ridgeline on the road. To each their own.
i dont drive truck often, but the last tacoma was dream to drive. Looking forward to driving this
It was not.....
Drive the 2023 Pro4X Frontier. that is a dream to drive.
Possibly the greatest prat-fall ever committed to fim! Bravo!
2:42 that was a perfect duck n roll amazing
Makes me hope they release some Tiny Taco/Hilux variant that I could afford in 5-10 years. God knows of all the companies Yota can make a reliable turbo engine, easy to work on and inexpensive to buy parts, or even upgrade.
Also, I like the blue 😊
Absolutely LOVE the new Taco !!! My current Toyota truck is coming up on 300,000 miles. Hopefully I’ll be able to afford one of these before Billy hits retirement age lol 😆

Lol this will sell like hotcakes 🥞
that fall was amazing. What a silly pro!
I just LOVE the all new Tacoma and i just LOVE there NEW high prices for 2024 too!!
The Tacoma definitely interests me. I like that you can get a quad cab and a 6' bed in a smaller truck. Ford and GM don't offer that. I just don't want to take on another car loan given my truck is paid off.
Imagine if Dodge trucks offer that too.
Second best looking truck behind the Colorado….GM absolutely nailed their design. Inside and out!
"Billy aint touching that steering wheel again" 😂😅😂😅😂😅 (12:08)
Toyota now makes great super market runner truck. My 1986 pickup will still chuck along somewhere in the mountains while this is heading to the junk yard.
This entire review just made me appreciate the Maverick more. I thought full size trucks of the 2000s were too big for day to day use. Ao now that this is that, thank you ford for a reasonable option
The Maverick is tiny tho! Every time I drive by one I have to do a double take due to how small it looks
The maverick is also a unibody independent rear suspension suv with a box. It’s not a truck
I’m sure your Maverick is dropping panties. 🤨
Mavericks are garbage. I just bought a low mileage Ram 1500 for less than what I would have paid for that SUV with a bed.
You okay there, Thomas?😂 2:40
Sometimes in LA, when it rains, I'm a Billy too... Ford Ranger RWD 5SPD.
Excellent review, guys !
Those google searches!
Pure comedy. Well done. Well done...
I've really hated how large vehicles, especially pickups and suvs have gotten so am glad the taco is still "a bit" slim. I'd really like it if it was even smaller but I know that will never happen. Still holding onto my 3rd gen 4runner for how small it feels even compared to my dads 2nd gen taco.
They say the new Corolla is wider than the 3rd Gen 4runner. Which is wild to think it’s suppose to be a compact car 😂
My 1st gen Sequoia is 1000lbs lighter than the new one, has 1/3 more interior volume, and almost matches its fuel economy.
I miss the old ford ranger bodies and size. Not a fan of this bigger trend either and not a fan of this tacomas bigger front
