- Introducing an exciting new BTech programme in Mathematics and Computing at IISc.
This new undergraduate programme seeks to enter a niche area with the aim of producing future leaders who will be at the forefront of research, development, and innovation in futuristic disciplines and next generation technologies that require deep use of mathematics, computer science, and data science.
The core of the programme spread over four semesters includes six courses each in Mathematics and Computing areas apart from courses in the sciences, humanities, and other engineering disciplines. Study tracks have been designed in Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Computational Science, Theoretical Computer Science, Quantum Computing, Signal Processing, Computational Biology and Mathematical Finance. Students can opt for Research/Industry projects in their fourth year. They can also obtain a M.Tech. degree by taking an additional year of course and project credits.
The programme hopes to attract some of the best young minds across the nation qualifying through the JEE Advanced examination. There is much hunger and demand in the industry for such an offering. Students from this programme will be sought after as graduate students across the globe. The location of IISc in Bengaluru, the tech hub of India will be an additional bonus.
I am eagerly waiting for a BTech course in IISc.
What are studying bro ....?
Yup. Me too.

@Ram Charan iisc is for people who are actually interested in research and development, its not for people just running behind placements
There is no significant difference between Btech and BS..(BS≠BSc). And IISc had BS since years.. Mathematics and Computing is new..
Will have a lifetime regret of not putting enough effort to crack into a good research institute. The problem with most coaching institutes, including the one I went to, is that the only motivation they give us is the lucrative jobs that campuses like these offer. Not once they talk about the numerous research opportunities available. My only motivation to prepare for JEE was to get a good job. While I do have a pretty decent job but the knowledge and experience I would have gained in those institutes would have been priceless. I'm not saying I would have done better if I knew about the other opportunities, but I would have at least put more effort. Money can be a good motivator, but these things are far more effective.
😢😢 same

I will keep this in mind.. currently in grade 12

Did you clear JEE sir ? And from which institute you had pursued your BTech .?
This popped on my feed today. This is so great to know that people are recognizing this course now. This course gives a perfect blend of theoretical computer science along with some taste of pure and applied Mathematics. I graduated from IIT Kanpur in Mathematics & Scientific Computing, a few years back.
Is it though as I heard applied mathematics is quite tough ?
@@srirangopanigrahy Applied maths is a cakewalk compared to pure maths. (It's just my perspective). Moreover, it depends on which course is it and who the professor is.
In IITK, we had tough grading for pure maths courses (in general).

With high cutoffs & limited seats still, it's the Indian Institute of Science. You have to be the best in the country and then you're worth understanding their course, yes I know it is a quite complex mental problem somewhere deep down the visible roots of such institutes. They must know the seriousness of the words they put in here, you don't choose students, students choose you. Don't produce leaders with toppers. Just offer the courses to young minds.
There need to more Universities like IISc in India
When you have large number of students practice and time limited environment is not the determinant of how well the student will do in the next step of education. "Dr. Jasmina Lazendic-Galloway, from the University of Melbourne also slammed the rote method of the jee advanced exam.
Happy to hear that Mathematics course started at undergraduate level in IISc. However, I having the following doubt.
How the subject namely, Mathematics comes under the group of Technology? As I under stood, Mathematics and Computers are tools for Engineers, where as drawing is the language of Engineers.
I took both ME Degree (during the year 1988) and PhD Degree ( during the year 2007) from Civil Engg Dept, IISc, Bangalore.
AI and ML requires high level of mathematics. And coding requires use of maths, which is used in computers

BTech in MnC is only done on the basis of JEE Advanced Rank.
This is great initiative by IISc. This should have been started atleast a decade back.

Whats the difference between computer science (b.tech) and mathematics and computing (b.tech.)?
Computer science : software , logics, working of computers and their network.
Mathematics and computing: solving complex mathematical problems using computers, financial data analysis on computers
it is basically using the computation power of computers on practical fields other than a computer related field. Where as cse will include the study of computers their working and their software development
m.ruclips.net/video/lMkv0epk5h0/видео.html
Machine learning & Artificial Intelligence , Data mining , needs more complex mathematical knowledge , which the CS course doesn't provide.

is there quota for kvpy or olympiad scholars
For the BTech course, no.
I know I might sound very absurd but the annual fees is very high (more than 2lakh)
You have full tuition waiver for sc and st students but what about obcncl and ews students.
I want to enroll in this program but due to high fees I can't afford this .
I just request you for consider my opinion
Sadly this is the standard fees followed in all IITs.
If you want to study in IISc with scholarship, I would recommend joining the BSc program. You can then take electives from the Computer Science Department after your 3rd semester.
@@TanishqTejaswi can I choose two major in iisc for bs program
I mean I'll do neuroscience and quantum computing
@@vee6246 The majors in BSc available are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Earth Science, and Materials. And for the first three semesters, you have to study all these 6 subjects. You can do one major only.
I think there maybe quantum computing courses (there is one atleast), and there are some good neuroscience courses, so you can take all these courses as electives but only after you above chosen one of the 6 subjects as your major.
Sadly, the fee is on the higher side. You could consider taking education loans -- IISc has excellent placements in Computer Science and Machine Learning, so students graduating from the MnC programme should be able to easily repay their loans.
There is economic scholarship if family income less than 5 Lakhs.
Also there are merit cum Scolarship and Ed loan with 15 years repayment time after completion of all education(even if you studied till Ph D,

Only 40 seats for male students. Where girls can even participate. Assuming that 5 more seats have been taken by girls and 65% are reserved for category.
SC: 7 seats
