    Thank god for Baldur's Gate is all I'm saying. We absolutely needed a single player IP to dominate the game industry conversation at this moment in time. The industry has been suffering from a gambling addiction, pumping out short term loot box garbage, lazy sports refreshes with gacha collector mechanics, and grindy live services with puddle-depth content. I felt like game companies forgot about us, or decided against high production cost long term franchises in favor of mobile-gaming-inspired fluff. And maybe for the big publishers that's true. It's sad to know that our beloved game is one stroke of a bean counter's pen away from extinction, but hopefully the success of games like BG3 will provide enough incentive to continue their investment SP RPG content.

    Glad that the DA & ME teams haven’t been hugely affected by the layoffs. Still concerned about how much (seemingly) DA’s needed success may affect if/when we get that next ME. Hope all ends up well.

    I’m still seeing a slight drag on that left foot of the N7, but that might be the unintentional result of who they motion captured.
    But in the meantime, Exodus looks really intriguing, seeing the same places through different ages of time is a really interesting take on the space rpg.

    Thanks for the update. The whole world is so depressing and sad at the moment so it doesn't seem right to be feeling worried about a video game but......🙁 for me they are a little escape and Mass Effect stole my heart. I so hope to see it back and brilliant again (with Shepard)

    ure the only channel keeping my hopes up, but still.. can you give an update on whether the shep will return or not? like, is the chance 0 now or is it still possible? thanks in advance :)
    also i think this channel should have a discord server.

      I hate making you wait, but I promise I'll answer this in my teaser trailer breakdown 2.0. I also discuss Shepard's return in my unhinged thought experiment dropping on April 1st. 👀
      A discord server would be fun, but I unfortunately don't have the time to moderate it. The livestreams are the best way to interact with this community and myself though, so I'd suggest popping by those. :)

    For me, even though they had layoffs for EA. If we look at the mass effect thing over 2024 that happen. We had a crossover eith destiny, they announce a board game called « priority: Hagalaz » and amazaon is truing to make a serie out of the mass effect univers. I doubt the pre-production goes badly with all the influence the game had over 3-4 month. I believe they are waiting dor dragon age: dreadwolf to be out quickly for production on mass effect

    I really hope Dreadwolf does well, because even though it’s never been officially stated, it feels like a make or break moment for BioWare as a studio. I also hope that the developers get a break to recharge after launch before moving onto Mass Effect, given they have been working on Dreadwolf for a decade.

    The Games Industry is in shambles, and has been for some time since 2020...But I'm still gonna remain positive. EA's layoffs are really terrible. Though, Bioware has had problems going back to the first game, with workplace crunch being the worst factor. Mass Effect 3's controversial endings and Andromeda's bugs were impacted by that workplace crunch.
    Oh well, if unions like the WGA can win, that's a positive sign. Hopefully the workers will unionize and the game's development is much smoother and healthier.

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  4 месяца назад +1

      If the devs can unionize, the industry would be in such a better state. Fingers crossed they're able to work something out.

    • @moiramcbutts
      @moiramcbutts 4 месяца назад

      @@Error-0x0194 tbh it's not because of unions. It's because of corporate greed. If Epic laid off entire studio that had unionized, I expect that that will be addressed in court, as that probably was not legal.

    This is sad time, when a company has to lay off its staff, especially when the issue isn't the team, it's on account of money minded executives who interfere with the creative potential and free thinking of their work force who are very passionate about the game just like any other. If they pull stuff like that, i don't think they're above tampering with their benefits either. EA used to be so reputable, now I'm just disgusted.

    The thing that makes Dragon Age compelling is the characters and their complex personalities and the world / lore and the very broad sweeping story arc. The game staying true to what makes Dragon Age a great IP despite the varied faults of the previous games is essential. I hope Bioware mostly ignores BG3 (apart from wanting to achieve a high standard). BG3 has done so many great things, but mostly from a DnD / turn-based RPG perspective. Dragon Age needs to stay true to its core and be very different to BG3 in so many ways, looking too closely at BG3 can just as easily cause Dreadwolf to go astray.

  • @dison1172
    @dison1172 4 месяца назад +2

    I’m really excited for the board game, the developer (Modiphius) has made some really great stuff so I’m happy they got the deal to make it.
    Do you think we will see any more licensed works come out with the Mass Effect IP like a TTRPG or something that allows the IP to stay fresh while still being separate from the “main” story?

    • @paragonseven
      @paragonseven  4 месяца назад +2

      I definitely think it's possible since the game is probably years away. They could collaborate with other franchises like they've recently done with Destiny 2 in order to keep the IP relevant.

    Hey Atharia :)
    It's been a minute lol. Another positive to the "still in pre-production phase" is knowing this game is being gone over carefully and effectively. When they finally get this thing into production, they are going to be able to do so with ease because of the time they have to get it drawn up and moving back to Unreal Engine will only make their life easier (as it's not the frostbite debacle lol). I do hope they delay the game If need be because I (along with everybody else, im sure) want the best product Bioware can offer us and time is a valuable thing. I have a feeling this game will be truly special.

    Bioware seems to be in real trouble... they teased Dread Wolf WAY too early. I mean Trespasser came out in 2015. Lets say about that time they had general idea of what has to be in next game. Fast forward to 2022 (official announcement of DreadWolf) and they had 7 years to lay out the storyline along with some animations (as we had teasers)... with the 2 more years its been 9 years in development. For perspective they announced Mass Effect 2 in 2009 and next year the game came out. Further more the time between the release ME1 and 2 is 3 years. I think it was a mistake to tease ME5. It will take all their available staff to release Dreadwolf and hope its not a disaster. And in the meantime now they have to work on ME too?
    I mean 9 years in development is alot of time. First the market is changing... theres also the fact of fanbase moving on to other games and last but not least - technology changes. By the time Dreadwolf comes out it will be running on outdated engine with not optimal performance and possibly alot of bugs. It will really be a big gamble to release it and immediately move to ME5 because the timer has started with the teasers.
    Dont get me wrong... I LOVE both games but i dont want Dreadwolf to be another Andromeda and ME5 to become the new DA2

  • @chrissyce5613
    @chrissyce5613 3 месяца назад

    I think DA will make money so there is no cause to worry about it harming ME5. The best thing about BG3 was being able to pick a lock. I honestly did not like BG3 probably because I found DnD to be okay. I liked other games like Shadowrun for table top. BG3 followed the Bethesda romance system. I never really triggered party banter or if I did it was the same conversation. Shadowheart was a total copy of Morigan from DA. I did like the turn based play because 3rd person games are very difficult for me to play. Once I get tired of killing stuff in DD2 I might go back and see if I can force myself to get past the first part of BG3. Exodus does look interesting.

    The way I see Bioware now: still managed by the same people, who decided to publish the response to Jason Schreier's exposé about Anthem development (including false statements about contents of said exposé), but now they have significantly less talented people due to layoffs. I still remain hopeful about ME5, despite what common sense dictates. :-/

    It actually feels unusual that any EA releases are so few and far between. I don't care what they say about the lay offs. The elephant in the room is that its clear EA's studio's are simply not inspired to make games. No way thats EA's fault.

    I think this correction that is happening in the gaming industry is good. I know real people are being effected by it and I hope they find help and other jobs, but the gaming industry has been a pit of toxicity with the developers and the gamers. The industry is built around squeezing every last dollar amount from gamers while the gamers seem to be turning every single release into some kind of larger societal or political commentary. Gaming as a sole gamer has become devoid of choice as developers dump out copy and paste RPGs. Hopefully this results in more small developers going back to the drawing board and coming up with new and novel ideas.

  • @Poesjewel

    heres the thing. not every game can be BG3. firstly, the game is enormous. second, they spent 2 or 3 years in early access getting feedback, and listening to said feedback. third, their studio is kind of a unicorn in the industry. not only with how they treat their people, but how they treat their product and customers as well. this is why i dont get on board with all the "bg3 ruined/improved/changed the gaming industry!" hype. those big companies that put shareholders above all else will continue to do so. they consider bg3 a fluke, or a one hit wonder. EA is not going to let Bioware be what it needs to be at the expense of their shareholders and profit margins. we've already seen what they produce...andromeda and anthem. so i dont feel confident they are spending years "to get the game right." they are spending years producing a game because it has to go thru a bunch of start overs, creative differences, layoffs, reassignments, management issues, etc.
