- Running virtual reality on a Mac with the Oculus Quest 2. How to set up bootcamp with Windows 10 and run the Oculus client with mac drivers. Connect the Quest with the Oculus link cable and optimise the resolution. I'm testing 3 macs, the 2020 iMac with a Radeon 5700XT graphics card, 2017 iMac with a Radeon 980 graphics card and a 2017 Macbook Pro with a Radeon 960 graphics card. Doesn't work with the new apple M1 silicon macs

I’ve just ordered the 8core 2020 iMac with 5700xt and this was a big help. A lot of people elsewhere claimed boot camp VR performance would be terrible and that just made no sense to me. Thanks for the vid! I’m excited

Has anyone got the Oculus client running on Windows bootcamp with a mac using an Intel graphics card? I've only tried AMD graphics but a few people here have intel graphics macs which should in theory work if intel bootcamp drivers are available
Hey, I’ve got an oculus quest two, and a MacBook Pro 2017, managed to get everything downloaded but when I plug in my cable, it doesn’t see the headset. I’m using a USB C to USB connector, and then a USB connector to USB C. Should I just get a USB C to USB C?
I did that all but at this place where i need to copy windows says that thats not available?

My card is a Radeon Pro 560 on my Macbook Pro 2015. I got to the point where my driver is recognised by the Oculus app. Connected via USB c link cable. But when I click on quest link and launch everything just goes dark and doesn't go forward. Will this even work on my system?

Could you help me out? I’m trying to run it on my iMac 2019 Radeon pro 580x, 3.7 GhZ 6-core i5, through VMware. I can get 2d steam games like half life and gmod to run very very well, but oculus link and steam vr get errors
G'day, I have a mid-2012 (with Retina display) MacBook Pro. The processor is a 2.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel i7. The memory is 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. The Graphics are on an Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB ,& an 'Oracle VM "VirtualBox" Manager', Version 6.1.28. So I should be able to 'flick' between macOS & Windows 10. So should I be able to use the 'Oculus Quest 2' with this Hardware ? Also, if I can't use the 'Oculus Quest 2', would I be able to use it with the New (16 inch) MacBook Pro with the - 'M1 Max' CPU & other hardware ? [ I might need to get the 'Oracle VM "VirtualBox" Manager for that set-up too , so I can run Windows or macOS ]
I’ve set up bootcamp and installed Oculus but it won’t see the Quests 2 headset either with a cable or Bluetooth.

Great tutorial! I'm looking to do bootcamp so I can capture gameplay for mixed reality on Oculus Quest 2 (primarily Beat Saber). What do you think of these specs?

Steam has not dropped mac support or development. They announced they would no longer be supporting 32-bit versions of Mac such as Lion, Mavericks and Yosemite. They still completely support and develop for the 64-bit versions.
Hey there, I’ve ran into an issue when downloading the Oculus app for Windows, the app starts installing but stops right before the end. I’ve reset the computer and tried it at least 10 times. Any solutions you know of? Thank!

I’m in a strange stage right now I bought the m1 MacBook Air last year but the screen is just to small, I could get a monitor and some other things but I’m toying with the idea of a pc either a god graphics card laptop or maybe like a gaming rig an either keeping the MacBook Air or selling it if I keep it maybe I’ll sell my 12.9 2020 iPad Pro .. between the iPhone and iPad Pro and MacBook Air m1 I feel like at to many devices that all do the same thing.. not using a pc in over 10 years I feel at a disadvantage as in now completely inept at using a pc .. I’m not sure what to do.. I prefer Mac but I really hate how safari handles “favorites, reading list, and bookmarks.. no reason to have so many ways to store a link and makes it so cluttered it drives me nuts and trying to edit them and clean it up is brutal… using safari because that’s only place keychain seems to work.. keychain is literally the best thing although I hear bitwarden a free program is pretty good on pc.. those 16” MacBook pros looks nice the intel 2019 and the m1 pro 2021 but the m1 pro are pricey! Even the 14” is pricey as heck! I just think the 13.3” screen on the air is way to small and the m1 chips are love and hate relationship.. the m1 air stays so cool and battery life is insane and no fan noise cuz it dosent have one lol but it’s only 8gb ram and 256gb ssd which just isn’t enough .. what do you recommend?
I have an iMac 27" 2019 Radeon 570X and an Oculus Rift. I can't make friends with them in any way. The application was installed successfully all sensors are visible, everything is green, but there is no image in the helmet. Before connecting hdmi, I use an apple usb-c multi-adapter. Please help, who has the Rift?
It might be the hdmi lead. I had that problem once
OK great videos. Thanks. But a question: I have a 3D Camera and a 360° Kamera. Photos and 360 Videos are on my computer. With virtual desktop I can watch them on the screen. But is there a way to watch it in full size with my Quest 1 Headset ? I mean VR 360 mode ? Right now, I can only copy it onto the Quest to see my Videos. But I would like to start them from within Virtual desktop. Any Idee ?

Unfortunately I have the Radeon Pro 570 iMac. Being a mac user for life, I've never had to look at graphics card performance. How does my Radeon Pro compare to the Radeon 980 from 2017 iMac?
the 580 in the 2017 imac handles most non graphics intensive stuff ok. From my memory the 570 doesn't meet the oculus minimum recommendations but it should still work. The 560 in the 2017 macbook pro struggled a bit but worked ok with the more basic things. I'd imagine the 570 is somewhere in between
Not sure why but cannot see the Steam VR in my headset. (running on iMac 27 inch / 2020 with Radeon Xt 16 GB graphics card and 32 GM Ram) Ocolus runs fine. But just can't even see the staem VR app (have set to 90 Hz and suto rendering as you suggest...............and running out of ideas why this isn't working.
Is there a way for me to view my Mac desktop and keyboard with oculus on. The idea is to have a different surrounding but still doing work.

If you're referring to the settings in the oculus debug tool, these are the settings recommended by oculus for the nvidia 2070 which is roughly comparable to the 5700xt. • Pixels Per Display Pixel Override: 1.2
• Distortion Curvature: Low
• Encode Resolution Width: 2784 . Setting resolution over 2784 used to crash oculus but it doesn't seem to anymore and the update to the oculus client allows the user to set resolution which seems to override the oculus debug tool

Yes, that's the middle model I tested. Should would ok for most things but won't handle the more graphics intensive stuff very well

I have the MacBook Pro with the m1 chip as well as the oculus quest 2. Is it possible that the pro m1 run vr games lile Pavlov? If so how cause I’m terrible with technology wise like downloading programs and stuff

I tried it on my mac, switched to windows, downloaded oculus, but when I tried to install the AMD it wont install it says there are no AMD graphics hardware :(
not all macs use AMD graphics. It might be one of those

@@Kryoic If you're mac uses intel graphics it might be possible to get drivers from the intel website. I haven't tried running VR with intel graphics

How about with Parallels and a virtual machine? Trying to download bootcamp version for Pro 5500M just gives an error. Can't seem to figure it out. Is it even possible?

Hi, Very helpful video. Just curious what other apps you have tried with the 2020 iMac? Any Oculus apps like Stormland or Asgard’s Wrath? If so, what resolution were you able to play them?
I haven't played either of them. Was thinking of giving Asgards Wrath a go. Would you recommend? I played the whole of Half Life Alyx and a fair amount of No Man's Sky on Steam which are pretty graphics intensive and played flawlessly.

I have Macbook pro 2020 but not the M1. It's not AMD graphics instead its Intel Iris Plus 1536MB. I tried to install the driver on Windows Bootcamp but the oculus still does not recognize the graphics card! Any thoughts?

Am I right it concluding from my experience that the oculus air link doesn’t work with bootcamp? It doesn’t for me, but fortunately virtual desktop works.

I'm also very curious if anyone's gotten air link to work yet. Spent a few hours trying to get it to work but to no avail. Planning to give Virtual Desktop a shot for wireless option.

I got confused at "you need to download the latest bootcamp drivers" so do we need to make sure bootcamp is updated? or is that the name of AMD driver name. I download the mac graphic but not sure what install means
It's the AMD driver for the graphics card that will be recognised by windows via bootcamp. Just install the driver while in windows

When I was in Boot Camp and I put the 10 windows in and then I press install it says need 64 bit Windows 8 or later iOS file and the file that I put in was 64 bits

Did you put on the headset and press allow, so that your computer has access to your headset? If that doesn’t work, you might need a different usb cable, since the one you have might be a usb 1.0 or your not plugging it into the right port on the computer. You’re computer has to have a usb 2.0 or 3.0 port to be able to utilize oculus link. Hope this helps.

The 2020 mac mini definitely won't. The 2018 may just but it won't be very good. Not a good enough graphics card

In the sense not being developed means we won't get any updates correct but what works will keep working?

Apple is phasing out Boot Camp for its new chips. Parallels has already made a version that works with the new chips. So, will Parallels work in linking MacBook Pro to online PC content like Steam? Thank you!
Not yet, but if Oculus or steam support the M1 graphics running in parallels in the future it could work. Let's hope

The 2017 iMac is the oldest one that I know of that works decently and that's really only for the high-end one
I wanted to support the video creator by saying: I can personally attest to the power of the 2017 iMac running VR (SteamVR, Viveport, and Oculus). I can play everything I've tried, from BeatSaber to Phasmophobia, The Forest to Pavlov and Population: One. Not sure about models before that.
Edit: also meant to say that I've used the Vive and Oculus Quest 2.
When I downloaded windows 10 on my 2019 iMac all of the files go on my desktop but I don’t know which one to choose for boot camp
windows should download as a zip file. Click on the zip file when prompted in bootcamp

It might do though not well. Somewhere between the radeon 560 of the 2017 macbook pro and the 580 of the 2017 imac I tested
