I'd buy one just for the cable management. The power connection on the side to the saddle and then the connection to guide the mount from my AsiAir is going to make the connection so simple
Just hope the internal cabling and port quality don't let this version down. Is the power output high enough for users? Let's see what the early users report. Thanks for sharing your views.
Good point. I can’t see them making this mistake. I used the old port from the front to run one cable to a pocket power box and then power everything including a rotator and dew heaters. So let’s hope it works the same.
The AM5 and AM5N look good, but I am going to hold out and see what Sky-Watcher comes up with for the 150i. I want a mount that carries a lot more load for a C11 Edge and full image train. I may just end up going with a CQ350 or a EQ8 in the end. Now, if ZWO had brought us an AM7 with a 35 Kg payload, that would really have gotten my interest.
I feel like it’s coming. They are very plugged into the market and wouldn’t miss an opportunity to make a buck :) I bet it comes in thousands less. Maybe $3000 for a mount and a new tripod for another $500. I enjoyed the am5 so much and don’t regret one bit selling my personally tuned eq6r that was a solid performer. But the am5 still whipped its ass in nearly every way even after $500 worth of timken bearings lol
@@easyastroimages5818 It's probably coming, but one way or the other I start breaking ground for Observatory 2 next month, so I'll have to decide on a new mount soon. I love my EQ6R, though. Works in the dead cold of winter at -40 just fine, which is important.
Love the video and your cat is adorable😻😻. I am a newbie to astrophotography, and I was torn between the AM5N vs iOptron GEM45. So I have a question about AM5N which one is beginner-friendly?
I was really hoping to see ZWO come out with an AM7 ? maybe. A mount that will take a heavier set up at 60 plus lbs like an EDGE 14 HD and still have the most welcome precision of the AM3 and AM5 and work well with ASI AIR Plus and App. Meanwhile I have two AM5's and not sure I would go for an N but rather maybe a mount for heavier loads that would be place on a permanent pier. When I raised this issue with Cuiv, he recommended the WarpAstron WarpDrive WD-20 Strain Wave Direct Drive. Yeah, twice the $$ but you know this hobby. If you want to play you gotta pay! Thanks for the video EAI and CS! BTW Agnea Astro shows having nine AM5Ns in stock now!
Boy that is a heavy load man lol. I would sit tight and who knows. I guarantee they will fill that gap. That’s a market they can come in at and be cheaper and just as effective imo
Might be worth mentioning that the 12V DC out on the saddle is only 3A not 5A. This could be a big deal as I don’t think you’ll be able to power the ASIair, cooled camera, guide camera and a couple few heaters with that.
A few others have seen that too. I think for me it would be cool because I could use it to power things at the rear of the scope like camera and the like and then I could power the mount and or an asi air via the front port. So this way I could have less cable mess running front to back. It’s still a win in my book but many will have their own circumstance
I have the original AM5 and I don’t see any reason to upgrade. I think the changes are minor and won’t affect imaging to any noticeable degree. My AM5 tracks and guides beautifully so not gonna do it. That’s not to say getting new gear isn’t awesome. 🤙
I’ve had mine for a little over a week and still working out the guide settings. My guiding has been erratic and kinda crappy. Periodic error has been pretty severe so far. I shoot 5 minute exposures and every other image is slightly worse, which I think is from the PE. My chart gave a number of 19+ and I was not thrilled with that.
At first glance I really liked the 12v 3 A connector on the dovetail, but after thinking more since it will supply 3 amps, then no way to power a ASI Air and the ZWO camera, focuser, filter wheel and someday the rotator, as that would be 6 or so amps. No way. Since the AM5N input is 12 volts 5 amp, then looks like ZWO is expecting a 2 amp load for the mount (on the safe side) then only outputs 3 amps. Maybe if ZWO had 2-5.5mm x 2.1mm ports (1 on the left & 1 on the right) as those can handle 5 amps each and then have an 5.5mm x 2.1mm additional input on the mount for powering a ZWO camera (so this would be for the camera only, and the other jack for ASI Air, focuser, filter wheel and the rotator). This would be the ideal solution in my thinking! This might have been the best upgrade?
Hmm. That is tight. I need to review my pocket power box data logs to see how much juice my am5 actually pulls. I always got buy just fine with the front connector. Maybe the combo of both would still clean things up some
@@easyastroimages5818 Well, I should have wrote with an ASI Camera with a cooler, 5 amps suggested. So that 5 amp (which is the max current of these 5.5mm x 2.1mm jack, true it may handle 6 amps but not suggested more than that as what gage are the wires, and how warm or hot the connector handle? So my thinking 5 amps MAX. So why I suggested 2 of these jacks should have been done. I am thinking doing this on my AM5 and will require some drilling the dove plate for the jacks and the ZM5 black dove tail black part to the inside of the AM5 to get power.
Yesterday I tried my new AM5N for the first time… On my ASIair is a dewband (at 40%), my EAF, the ASI2600MC Pro (at -10°, and with the Dew heater on), and my ASI220MM Mini. Powered by the port on the dovetail. Had no Problems at all…
We won’t know without a tear down. I would assume some kind of upgrades and or changes from aluminum to steel in some areas since the weight increased as well.
There isn’t an am5 in stock for sale anywhere now. Not the original. Not the new model. Very frustrating they would cut off all supplies of this unit after announcing the new model without having any stock ready to go.

The bolts and easier less fussy PA is the seller for me. It was super annoying.
Love my AM3. Running my Askar 120mm with no issues
It’s a great option. So much for the price.

thank you so much!! the am5n just cant be beat for ease of use!
Loosing that side mini vixen clamp is a big loss. I used it for a laser to get the initial polar alignment.
ah ok. i have paint marks in my driveway so i put my tripod right there and since all else is already on top im always within the limits for the knobs

Yes sir I wouldn’t do that either. Perfect for first time buyers though.

I love my AM5 mounts
For sure. It would take a lot to make me consider anything else.

Hi. Do you know what is the difference in the mechanics to justify the increased payload capacity? IMO, they just changed the number in the brochure

hmm yes very unprepared. time for them to shore up some processes
Just ordered my AM5N. Already have my TC40 so no need for a new tripod.
Awesome. I am certain you will be happy. Go back and watch my in depth am5 videos and you can see what to expect but better!
❤
Thank you
Agean astro has 16 original am5 for 500 dollars off.
they probably going to pull the remaining am5's to upgrade them.
Possible.
$4200 AUD with tripod yeah nah there is no competition at all seriously disappointed with ZWO
Isn’t everything more down there? How much is an eq6r pro?
@@easyastroimages5818 $2699 AUD which is $1000 cheaper and you get a tripod compared to an am5 but you get weight.
