- I've been getting a ton of questions about the Nuobell adjustable dumbbells (especially since people have been seeing them in the background of my videos). Today I give you a break down on why I think they can be great, as well as a few reasons you may want to avoid them.
Huge thanks to URBNFYT for providing these to me for review. At the time of release they're now accepting pre-orders (4 week lead time to ship):

I have those (in kg) and I love them! 6 months down the road and no wear and tear at all! The stand is worth it! Great Video and Channel! Cheers from Munich!
Thanks for the first hand feedback!
Gruß aus Nürnberg 👋🏽
Have u dropped them at all?
Wie schneiden sie so nach 2 Jahren ab? Überlege mir sie zu kaufen, aber bin noch unschlüssig wegen der Plastikteile..
Great review Brandon! Hilarious lighthearted dig on Coop!
I have the Bowflex adjustable dumbells and they're good, but I wanted something like those you reviewed here for several reasons. First, the adjustable mechanism is great since you're already putting your hands on the handle! Mine you have to turn dials on either end. Second, these look much more compact from end to end and mimic standard dumbells in that regard. There's always going to be play on anything adjustable AFAIK, but there's give and take with most everything.
I think there's still no clear cut winner at the end of the day, just a matter of which trade offs you're willing to deal with.
Drop them!! I’ve been waiting for a reviewer to actually drop them.
Lol can't do it!
Why drop them? Too weak to set them down? Lol
@@beri232 it makes people feel big boy tough to drop them and/or yell
@@adeep187 I think you're right. For what I paid for mine I wouldn't be dropping them anywhere but back into their cradles/stand. I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of my Nuobells..... gottem about 1 month ago.
I mean you could always expand from 80lbs by buying individual dumbbells.. At least you condensed so much space from 5-80lbs in one small footprint 👍🏼
True
THIS. I owned ironmaster dumbbells and practicality wise, they were just inconvenient to change them inbetween workouts and definitely made me stay away from super sets or drop reps. Sold em, got nuo dumbbells with addition heavier dumbbells that i needed, havent looked back since. Plus, its really hard to even get your hands on ironmaster even now.
@@BasementBrandon literally what I said aloud lol
Watching this while unpacking my new ironmaster quicklocks. #Timing
Given the choice I'd rather have Ironmasters for the way I train.
@@BasementBrandon Is that just because of the higher weight availability, dropability (not sure that is a word), or other?
@gzsprout ... Hopefully your ironmaster set doesn’t have the issue where the plates comes apart while lifting like this Amazon user: www.amazon.com/Ironmaster-75-Quick-Lock-Adjustable-Dumbbell/product-reviews/B000GE5QRM
@@Thumper99TA both!
Iron master is the way to go. Wouldn’t buy these for the durability aspect and not worrying to drop if need be
Haha, Coop has small hands and can’t handle the girth
You said it!
@@BasementBrandon Haha shots fired!! I was rolling when I heard that :)
Brandon good at handling girth 😉😂
Coop can handle my girth.
It's weird. I never noticed until this video that Coop really has the hands of a child.
It's just b/c he's always alone you don't get much context for how small he is.
I think he’s only 6’9”
I was about to buy these but I can’t get past the fact that,
1) doesn’t go past 80lb
2) can’t drop them
3) plastic wears down over time
Makes sense!
Which means the IRONMASTERS STILL REIGNS AS KING 👑
@SuperHaitiano Yeah I feel like the mechanism is probably still metal and perhaps the plastic is just a cover or something? I know my York adjustable dumbbells are like that and they've lasted me a decade and still work.
I agree about to much plastic in the inner mechanisms. They will break !
Yeah same here, I can easily do over 90lbs too and that’s also the reason why I haven’t bought powerblocks (and also because they are never in stock now). I just went with the standard dumbbells and got $70 handles, and $200 worth of plates for them from Walmart. They go up to 125lbs/ handle and those things are not going any where for a very very long time.
Yup, those bells are orange, but it goes pretty well with your pink hoodie
lol
yeah. anybody who needs >90, with the 125 power blocks being 2x cost of anything else, the 120 ironmasters are the only option. been using them for a month now. love them.
They are great!
@@BasementBrandon their lifetime warranty is what sealed the deal for me
Way to start my day. Thanks Brandon, love all that you do man!!
appreciate that dude
Trying to decide between the Ironmaster and Nuobell. I suppose that as long as I don't drop the Nuobell I should be fine? I like the fact that they're easy and quick to change weight settings as opposed to the Ironmaster.
Yes, don't drop them and they'll serve ya well!
The fact you talked about people who train in there bedroom. Makes me respect you far more than other reviewers ....
I know my audience lol
I love these DBs more than any other adjustable db I’ve used. Only downside is the lack of weight. I wish they’d use some heavy duty metal instead of plastic inserts and expand the system to 120.
I’m still keen to try the iron masters. I hate the power block shape lol
Stop being so strong, problem solved.
Just ordered the 80 pounders. Didn't see a color option when I ordered but I might have my painter at work paint them for me. I'm super excited. Have been limited to 40 pound dumbbells for 5+ years
Right on! What color are you thinking?
@@BasementBrandon snow white. I thought I was original with the black and white color scheme. I guess great minds think alike.
Great review. It will be nice to do a video comparing them to the 50lbs adjustable Snode dumbells . I just bought the Snode, awesome!
Right on!
How are they holding up? I wanted them so bad but I went with Nuobell instead.
@@enriquel1993 hey...their still holding up, I use them frequent and still awesome. I love them.
@@atorres205 that's awesome bro! Enjoy them 💪🏽
Love the "Coop" hand, LOL!
Just jokes :)
Ha baby arm. I like the knurled handle. Powerblock is way too much dough to get that option. They seem good 👍. Liked the curling dumbells in the squat rack Easter egg haha. Another fine review 👌.
I think right now there's no clear cut "best" it always comes down to which trade offs you can live with.
I personally think powerblocks are the best. I have the urethane commercial versions that are expandable to 175 (I currently have the 125s) they work extremely well, they can be drop although I don’t do it often & they look badass. I don’t care that they’re not shape like regular dumbbells only thing I wish is that they had knurled handles and not the rubber contour grips. (Plus I’ve had them for 2 years+ now and still look and operate new)
Just never liked the feel of them or how they adjust personally!
Are replacement parts available if any of the plastic pieces do break after the 2 year warranty or from damage due to dropping and how hard is it to replace if they are available? Also, please do crank out a few sets on a bench and drop them to see how they hold up. The world not only wants but NEEDS to see for a real review 🙏🏼 I’m very much sold on them aside from not being durability and time tested and proven. Would hate to spend $800 on them and have to order a whole new set because I dropped them once and replacement parts were not available
They tell you not to drop them, so I don't see a point in doing so for a video when it's pretty obvious they'd break :)
It's not a matter of if they break or wear out, it's a matter of when. Their two year warranty is a pretty big red flag.
Any issues with these over the last year?
Also, have you had a chance to look into Snode's offerings? AD50 and AD80? Seems like a competitor to the Nuobell by design and decreasing the amount of plastic being used.
They live at my friends garage now, he hasn't had any issues, but I have seen some with issues with the plastic holding up.
As you said, my top concerns:
1. Durability
2. Capped at 80lbs
Love the way they work and ease of changing weight, but I hate plastic parts.
Yeah I think for a serious lifter those are super valid concerns. For someone who doesn't own a gym and just want's some "fitness" dbs, these are prob the best available.
Shots fired at 6:05 😂😂😂 Coop complained that the handle was too big on the IM dumbbells too...
#softhands
I hope you sent Coop some aloe after that video, but in a small tube so he can use it...
Ha just jokes :)
Definitely orange.
lol phew.
I thought so at first too but if you look at 8:12 I think its just the camera because that rack and the American flag also kinda look orange
@@stephengosselin flag looks red but the rack definitely also looks orange
@@BasementBrandon what color is the rack at 8:12?
@@star.soaked.wanderer Listed as red but again looks more like blood orange to me.
B, I’m gunna try making my own expansion sets for the USA elite power blocks as they haven’t been in stock for what seems like a full year.
Will share the info, video/pics
Get after it!
They were just in stock a few weeks ago
@@powerbar8991 correct, I actually snagged the expansions sets last Wednesday!
Thanks
Still waiting for long term reliability records ! That mecanism scares me a bit !
Agreed!
@@BasementBrandon thanks for the great review as always man !
I agree! To much plastic
Thanks for the review and the previous ISF weights. Oh, "Are you in" LOL "Yeah your In alright". LMAO. Thats was funny!!!! Keep the reviews coming and appreciate what you do!!!!
Thanks Stanley
look awesome but the ironmasters go heavier and are cheaper lb for lb i think. Iron master are also fully metal and there's no rattling and have longer more grippy handles apparently. Only negative is there's been none in stock in the uk for weeks and they take longer to change weight
I do prefer the ironmasters for my style of training, although if you're looking for adjustability, these are tremendously easier.
I wonder if there was enough interest if they would make an 85-120lb (or more) set. I’d be happy to still just be down to two dumbbells and would mitigate the lack of expansion.
I would think so
just ordered the 80 pd variety...super excited
Nice!!
Do you still have them ?
I think that they can't be dropped is a huge disadvantage. Even more than people might think initially.
That pretty much removes the possibility of failing a rep on a lot of movements . And it even removes high RPEs in some cases, as you might , say, get the last OHP up but then you're too fatigued to bring them down gently and you need to dump them
These live in my friends gym now.
I have these and love them! They seem very solid, but I try not to too rough with them. I have some dirty old screw-on 100s for when I want to get crazy 🤣
Yeah if you treat these well they’ll treat you well!
There's so many moving parts, in 2 years I want to see all the videos of people complaining they're broken
Same
There's another guy who used these for 4 years and he says they are totally fine.
@@MrPsyb0lt that’s the gamer guy…. He is using Core fitness ones. They are different..
@@NTB_Retro most likely the core fitness arent as durable so it makes sense to compare them when there is no long term experience on the nüobell.
I believe it is confirmed that Brandon is trying to break the 1RM bicep curl record after seeing all those curl demos 👀
100%
Your dumbbells look to be in better shape than mine upon arrival. The number call outs on mine were already significantly faded; I’m going to have to fill them in with some sort of white marker in the future. There were also scratches on every single one of my plates, and the packaging they came in was fractured and mishandled. It’s all a bit unsettling when you pay $915 USD.
Did you have any of these issues?
Who did you order through? Mine showed up with each DB packed in it's own box with tons of stryafoam. The handle was wrapped in it's own bag, as was the remaining weight plates, all in the cradle already so no real room for movement.
@@BasementBrandon I ordered through Rogue, although the handling of the package was through smrtft. Mine also came with styrofoam, but it was fractured all throughout as if it were crushed by the items. Rogue contacted them on my behalf, and apparently such workmanship and handling issues are considered normal for a new set. I then contacted smrtft directly, and they initially told me the product wasn’t theirs. I’ve been rerouted to Rogue CS for clarification, of which I have still gotten none of haha
I have the 80 lb set and they're freaking awesome
Right on!
I have the Weider Core Spacesaver 100 adjustable dumbbells. They are cheap but I have had them for over 10 years. Just have to tighten some bolts every now and then. My problem is I am just too strong now for the 50 pounds max per dumbbell. 80 would probably be enough but for the price I would rather just get the Ironmaster set. I can use the old weider set for supersets and have the option to go heavier than 80lbs.
Right on man!
Gotta love that REP plyo box...so versatile :) Thanks for the vid! Love the warranty but wish there were less sounds when using them...the perfect adjustable dumbbell is yet to be made!
I think there's still no clear cut winner at the end of the day, just a matter of which trade offs you're willing to deal with.
Curious as to how these have held up for you? Everyone has mentioned the plastic and some reported that part cracking. Part of me question if they were thrown around by them or if these are just isolated situations? I am not a dumbbell dropper but still a bit concerning at the price point. I'm just doing basic strength training in the garage alone so I will not be training for competitions etc.
I actually gave these to a friend as I found I wasn't using them much with my full DB set I have. He's had them for about 4 months and hasn't had any issues.
Got some Built bars on order. Thanks for the discount!
appreciate it!
There is probably a reason why we haven't seen drop tests with any of these. I get the economy, but the guy that needs an 80# probably doesn't need a 5, 10, 15, and 20 at least, so like the dumbbell sets, you pay for extra things you don't need. For me, I just picked up a single as I needed it and it's price effective and doesn't take much room.
Makes sense!
I know this is way past time, but did you like these better than your iron masters? Looking to purchase my first set for the gym.
It depends on how you train and what you want. Go for the IM if you want the most similar to feel of dumbbells with heaviest adjustability and you don't do a ton of drop sets. Go with the Nuo if you are fine with 50 or 80lbs mas weight, not being able to drop, and you want the quickest adjustable ones.
After you" click" in a weight, remove the DB from its stand, are the handles then locked in place, so there is no danger of the handle "clicking" while doing a rep and the weights fall off ?
Correct. You can only change weights while they're in the carriage
@@mmjsfca Thanks, Michael.
Yes, cradle basically has a release key that allows for adjusting.
4:13 That's what she said!!!!! I cannot help myself
:)
Might have been better to compare them to classic adjustable dumbells with collars, like Rogue adjustable dumbells, which is more reasonable price wise than a dumbbell rack for most people.
I think all in ones like this are in a different league TBH.
How long have you had these? Just trying to get an idea how well they will hold up.
2 months
Thanks, great review!
Thanks for watching!
That explains why you painted your basement columns brown and said black on Instagram
paint can don't lie
Branch Warren wouldnt be able to use these.... He throws the weights down lmao ....
A concern i would have is how would that click to change weight hold up... over time the constant clicking to change weights may make the mechanism wear out.
Yeah def could be a long term issue.
Shake weight review next please
I think I got rid of it :(
Any chance you can get their calibrated plates? $185 for a pair of 45s seems like a decent deal.
Nuobell? I didn't know they made them lol
@@BasementBrandon sorry. Their authorized seller does. $185/pair for 45s and seem to be in stock.

Question, does a magnet stick to the outside of the round plates ? I want to add 1,25/2,5lbs to have a finer degree. Can someone check please ? Thanks !
Not sure, I gave these to a friend.
I really want these, but 80 only? If only they went to 100 or 120.
Limiting factor on these.
Which plyo box is that brandon? I’ve been looking for ways around buying nuobell’s stand lol
Its the REP fitness one. It's $100 and pretty awesome for what is... in this case a DB stand lol.
I figured haha, which one specifically? I see alot of options on their website, is it the 30, 24, or 20 in your video? 👀 😁
I want to turn my formal living room into a gym w a rogue monster light 390f rack, but it has hard wood floors.. Ideas advice how to protect it?
Buy a large enough horse stall mat 1/2 inch thick should be more than enough for most uses.
Horse stall mats
If you're not planning on dropping weights you can get away with a ton of options
@@BasementBrandon I've heard the horse stall mats shouldn't go directly against the wood floor bc it can trap moisture or cause discoloration but I don't kno what to use... I would only drop deadlift but I will use drop pads for that... I'm color blind too sux lol
I really want to pull the trigger on these but I can't find anything in regards to a possible expansion kit. Does anyone know if Nuobell has discussed the possibility?
They have not.
@@BasementBrandon I figured. Looking at it mechanically it seems highly unlikely they could do an expansion on these unless they got beefier handles. I really hate the powerblock 125 they make my hand feel claustrophobic.
@@BasementBrandon Bit the bullet and got them after watching your review and a few others pretty solid db's still waiting on those plate mates though.
@@gagehassan8885 How are these going for you?
@@JBS7551 I like them alot. I use them for accessory work quite a bit. The only drawback and discontent I have towards them is it looks like there won't be any expansion kits for these, luckily I have a pair of the baadass handles and a ton of pancake 10# standard plates for when I have to go over 80. I was thinking of doing some DIY magnet plates but I don't really trust the plastic in these. I'm most likely going to sell these when the pepin fast dumbells come out with the same concept and they go all the way up to 120 lbs with 2.5 lb increments I think. I'd still give these a solid 4/5 though especially for a version 1. They definitely get the job done.
I mean weights are meant to be dropped... do you have any concern about them being dropped 2 feet from the ground on horse Stall mats say like when you’re doing flat bench work?
Yep
@@BasementBrandon appreciate the honesty!
Would you recommend strength co adjustable dumbbells?
Depends. Personally I don’t like the mini barbell loadable type. If you don’t mind that they’re similar to rogues, so high quality but still not ideal for my own tastes.
Are the rouge db15 worth it? Or are there any cheaper versions that u know of?
Lots of knock offs (like Titans)
@@BasementBrandon gonna get the titan ones, thx :)
My only gripe with the nuobell is that they only adjust at 5lb increments. Compared to the powerblocks which can do 2.5lb. powerblocks are far from perfect though, too.
TBH I've never found a time where I wanted to go up 2.5lbs.
Do you know the width of the handle? Not the circumference
I don't know offhand, but they're shorter than my fixed dbs.
What do you all think about these vs the core fitness adjustables? They seem super similar and nobody really compares them too much.
Core Fitness doesn't go up this high and is made of a lot more plastic.
@@BasementBrandon
Gotcha. I think the core fitness might be good enough for my aging parents. Even the 50lb Nuobell ends up being close to 1k with stand and shipping! Nuts

They were at the time of the video, not sure about now though.
kind of wish i went with these over powerblocks. Not really a fan of the blocky feeling of them. Also not a fan of when i need to change weights in 5lbs increments.
I think with all adjustables there are trade offs, just depends which ones are most important to you.
one reason ive went to rubber coated and just raw hex metal dumbbells is the long lifespan. Literally indestructible. I looked at these and a couple others that look exactly like them..Neat looking but i dont want to have to worry about something breaking. I dont know whats so hard about making things out of good strong durable real metal.
makes sense to me.
How do these compare with the snode dumbells?
From what I recall the snodes have weird weight jumps.
@@BasementBrandon yes I saw that, but you can over come that with more reps or slower reps. I like that they are all cast iron, no plastic even the base holder.

old spin collars with the 1 inch plates all the way put 50 lbs plates on each side still works put 2.5 lb still works drop throw pass down to kids like mine around 50 years old still good
I don't like any loadable dumbbell that uses plates. Especially when you have to kick them up and/or buy more plates to use them.
Typically a good plastic wont wear as easily but yes it will crack/chip. Metals however will wear over time.
True that
