yeah but all but the first verse is different to the other ones he made
@@maxsteinlechner6085 "Strasse" ließt sich aber komisch, denke immer an Trasse dabei
Mrdoge that's not how you use those words you imbecile
"My only home has always been never-ending war. Perhaps my death on the battlefield will be my only victory." Jesus, that hit me so hard..
During the Indochina War from 1946 to 1954, 45% of the Foreign Legionnaires deployed there were former German soldiers.
The first verse and the melody of the "Marsch der Verdammten" (March of the Damned), better known as "Wo alle Straßen enden", was written by Horst-Heinz Henning in the 50s or 60s. The other four stanzas were added by Karl Sternau.
Are there accounts from German soldiers who made it back to Germany, perhaps even wrote about it? This is such an unknown part of history - I would really like to know more about it!

@@mathiaspoelman1493 Peter Scholl-Latour was a famous German Journalist who did fight with the French in the First Indochina War. Later he also reported from the Vietnam War and was captured by the Vietcong.
His book "Death in the Rice Fields" is about his experiences.
@@theodorkorner1497 Thank you so much!
Karl Sternau, I never knew that. I honor and respect all those brave Germans who volunteered to go and help the French over in French Indochina.
This is a very sad song, one of the saddest I've ever heard. Yet, its lyrics speak of a man whose feelings are stoic and who accepts his situation with perseverance. As sad as it is, the protagonist is highly admirable!
Your additional lyrics deep, Karl!

Mach weiter so
When I lived in Germany and France I knew and jumped with a couple of guys who were Ex REP and had fought in Indo China and jumped into Dien Bien Phu....One was wounded and got out the other spent time in the VC camps.....This song reminds me of them...all gone now... .....My late father in law fought in Russia during Adolfs winter holiday plan and this song could related to alll these guys as well.
Did you get to know their opinion on the Vietnamese they once fought against, especially that one man that was eventually captured at Dien Bien Phu? I'm a Vietnamese, and just curious for others' opinion on things we've gone through. And may those men, regardless of their origin or who they fought for, rest in peace and good macaroni cheese.
Klasse gemacht 😁😁😁😁 Vielen Dank.. Grüße aus dem Schwarzwald
As someone aspiring to become a legionare, this song in a strange way is sacred as being apart of the history of the legion
I never knew there were German soldiers in Vietnam
This song is about the Germans in the French Foreign Legion during the Indochina war.
Still vietnam tho so ur not wrong
They were probably there in the 60s as hospital staff. European involvement in Vietnam was comparatively minimal after 1954
Very sad. Whether they had gone back home or stayed in the legion they would still be subject to foreign rule.
Fun fact a lot of Legionnaires in the 50s were former german soldiers
Welcome back to the wo alle Straßen enden channel
Again, all but the original first verse are different lyrics and the added context is also very insightful

I will try it later😉
I like the shade that the song throws at the French Army. It's easier to fight in Russia than under a French officer lmao.
Nie no, tego wprost trzeba słuchać 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎶🐺🎵🎶🌝🌛💖💐😃
Ein sehr schönes Lied, toller Text
there's a story about German in Foreign Legion desert to Vietminh

Imagine going in the legion and singing wir alle strasse enden with the true lyrics the french and russians be like: ah not again please!!!!!!!!
This is actually the original version of the song.
@@fredonline1 It's not. Leclerc was way later than WW1
I wonder if a WW2 version of this song might also be possible although there hasn't been a real connection between the two so far.
Or if Karl makes a WW2 version, and it should make reference to the first world war, like how this one refers to the second world war.
@@libzbond Oh yes, that should work. After all, there were Germans who survived or at least fought in both world wars
"Merck toch hoe sterck" auf Deutsch wäre was :) beste

Im speaking out of all those who want to sing along with some of the more fast passed songs, Can you put the lyrics in the Description because, to me, it seems way easier to sing along if you know the lyrics up ahead.

This would be an even more fitting song for the second Indochina War.
Hi there. I'm looking for the song "Von allen Verlassen" that was on Side B of a 45rpm record with Marsch der Verdammten on Side B. Can you help me?

Hey Karl Sternau I wondered if you have a spreadsheet for your piano version of "Die Grenzwacht hielt im Osten" would be cool if you could post it somewhere.

this version is far superior to the WW1 version in my humble opinion.
french legion adapted a lot of german ww1 and ww2 marches. because you know why.
This is the original version of the song, the one from WW1 is actually an adaptation

What is so bad to have french officers ?
For Germans? It was bad because The French were mighty resiliant as were The Germans. Both were entrenched heavily and both would send wave after wave of soldiers into brutal battles, creating a giant human slaughterhouse that would.not.make.any.progress.
People make fun of France for their failure at WW2 but they were the greatest rival to The Germans in WW1.
@@ra.n9482 ermm this song version is about the vietnam war i think
The song is “Wo Alle Straßen Enden”, only this version is about the German soldiers who served in the French Foreign Legion during the Indochina War.
France and Germany are traditional rivals. After WWII the bitterness of the French towards Germans was common. The men this song is about are post WWII German volunteers to the French Foreign Legion. Service in the Legion is way to escape your past, and by recruiting from POW camps after WWII, there were plenty of men who needed a clean slate. It's not surprising at all the French would treat these men poorly or see them as cannon-fodder like all German POWs were treated after WWII.
@Oskars Meant is the Indochina war. French Vietnam War if u so want. The French Foreign Legion to this time was made of nearly 55% Germans. Thats why the song ins sung in German. There a still today a lot of german Songs in the Foreign Legion, a lot have gotten french lyrics, but some are still sung in german today.
L don,t know any Indochina war that german soldiers was there , lyric is sad , use this song for staringrad for both side cold cold steep wind war zone, to me suitable for this song .
Many ex-Wehrmacht soldiers fought for French Foreign Legion in Indochina, some of them even deserted and joined Vietminh forces
Crack open a book then
Full lyrics pls
That's already the full lyrics
