This is one of my favorite violin concertos since I first heard it played by the great Nathan Milstein. Arabella Steinbacher’s rendition is absolutely wonderful, uncovering and revealing nuances I had not heard before. It’s one of the best interpretations ever in my opinion and she has convinced me that there is no other way to play this masterpiece. She’s undoubtably one of the greatest violinists in the world today.
I found this really enjoyable to listen to. Very elegantly played, phrased, and even choreographed (in the sense of bowings and fingerings). There are not a lot of soloists who really 'get' Prokofiev but this was well done - the more delicate passages e.g., around 9:15 or so are given wonderful attention, each note speaks distinctly, while the rougher 'Troika' moments are exactly what they need to be. Bravo.
Yes, Arabella Steinbacher is grace personified. She plays in an elegant fashion. One might say that this piece and Vaughn William's A Lark Ascending were composed with her in mind.
This is one of the most simply beautiful violin concerti ever written, and this is one of the finest performances of it I've heard. I think the violin-flute passage from 8:43 to the movement's end is one of the greatest in any concerto, and the violin-clarinet passage at 22:19 to the end of the work, as if floating upward on a cloud, is one of the greatest codas. I had never heard Arabella Steinbacher before, but she is quite impressive, obviously among the best violinists today. (I heard much orchestral detail in the score that I'd not heard before also.)
One of my favourite performances of Prokofiev 1, just like her Beethoven or Brahms. I've just heard also her recordings of Bartók concertos and Shostakovich 2. I know better performances of Bartók 1, especially unrivalled Suk's recording, but Steinbacher's Bartók 2, Shostakovich 2, Prokofiev 1 and others are really gems. What I especially like about her playing, is her ability to add the fourth dimension into the interpretation, some magic, poetry, profound lyricism. She can work impressively with vibrato, rich colours, and dynamic and tempo contrasts, and still keep the composition rationally constructed.
This is one of my favourite violin concertos. It’s like a fairytale in music.

Чудесная музыка Сергея Сергеевича! Великолепное исполнение оркестром! Ещё благодарю Арабеллу!

Exactly! It feels like flowing through warm soft pinkish clouds.
I like slower tempi for this music, so this is perfect, right up there with Szigeti. Thanks for posting.

Gorgeous playing!
Absolutně nádherné!!!!
Bravo!!!!!!!!
Elle est aussi resplendissante que son violon
I see that the incredible sleeping woman in the audience is still, well...sleeping. Nice performance by the way, but not as good as Hilary's.
Have you seen Hilary’s new version yet?
