    The "chat" with the viola...my God. How divine!! Later Clara sounds great.
    It is amazing how this orchestra HR FRANKFURT is quite perfect with what ever they play, with whoever is the soloist under this versatile conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada.

      @cameronpaul Neither can I imagine such a thing!
      And thanks so much for writing it as you did, instead of what we so often see in these RUclips comments:
      "This is the absolutely best performance of this piece that there ever was, or ever again will be,
      by any performer -- already dead, still alive, or as yet to be born -- in this universe or any other
      universe, real or imaginary, since the beginning of -- and until the end of -- time.
      (Haha, they don't exactly say it that way, but it's pretty clear that that is what they mean. 😀)

    Yes, surely, “Ach du lieber, mein schatz”!!! Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous violin concerto! As “PASSIONATE” as any violin concerto ever written!! One thing this performance lacked, like every performance, of any piece of music, is a GIANT PICTURE OF THE COMPOSER, displayed somewhere for ALL TO SEE!!! It is because of HIM that we have the wonderful music we hear!!! Sibelius would have been an “imposing picture” to behold! We could try to imagine what went through the mind of the man we see to compose such tremendous music as this! Was it the “WILL OF OUR ALMIGHTY GOD”? “Gesundheit”!

    As a Finn, I got chills from the beginning. Most soloists just play it as if they were playing Tchaikovsky, but for Sibelius, that style is too romantic. I think Ehnes got it just right. It was more delicate and there was suspense.

    Both the violinist Ehnes and the conductor Orozco-Estrada are great musicians, and this might be the best performance that I have heard of this very great concerto. However, Adrian Justus and Enrique Batiz still probably did the best on this -- more passion and bite, while still retaining the nordic isolation.

  • @xris9593
    @xris9593 6 лет назад +4

    This is better than his version with the NHK, where he seemed to be really off his feed. But overall, here, a bit too cautious an approach, not enough forward passionate drive; and in the slow movement the vibrato gets a bit predictable... (and some unfortunate surfacey bow contacts...) It's hard to be on the road, jet-lagged, in a live situation with an orchestra you have had only a short rehearsal time with. I'd just like to hear him sometimes cut loose and not be such a correct nice guy, play from a few yards below the floor straight on up through his guts and heart. It's such an incredible concerto....

      Yes true. I also feel his violin is very bright. "Skinish".

  • @musicfirst5020
    @musicfirst5020 Год назад +3

    James Ehnes is always predictably technically flawless, that inself is an incredible human achievement, and alway has a sumptous sound, and never sounds corny or over the top indulgent.....however. He has some strange hurky jerky thing with his bow stroke at times, a bit like Joshua Bell. It creates an accent where one isn't needed. Overall, he just lacks some characteristic sound, just sounds predicatable. There is a some visceral excitement that is missing. He is predictably amazing playing, but still predictable. He doesn't leave your with his sound in your ear.

  • @ronaldbwoodall2628
    @ronaldbwoodall2628 6 лет назад +6

    This is one of my favorite violin concerti, but not one of my favorite violinists. Ehnes employs a thinner tone than I prefer, although here, paradoxically, the overall performance seemed a little heavy and lacking in idiomatic flavor.

      @@Musicrafter12 Regarding risk taking, most of that has been done in the practise room. You don't need to take "risks" if your playing is already pretty much sublime. What risks do you want him to take - play the fiddle while standing on one leg, or play while cycling?
