James Ehnes is in the category of the true giants, that will leave a legacy to humanity, like Kreisler, Heifetz, Oistrach and Ginette Neveu. That performance of the Brahms is divine, played with inspiration and great passion. His Beethoven is also the pinnacle among great interpretations. He plays Bach solo works with real polyphonic understanding and counterpoint understanding. All miniature pieces or virtuoso fireworks, including Paganini caprices, he masters. The repertoire he masters is wide, including chamber music. Also, he is always ready to perform any concerti or recital program. Many go on tour with the same program over and over again. Not James Ehnes. Many thanks for sharing this now historic recording.

Ehnes is the second-rated boring violinist with colorless ugly violin sound! The Giants are really=Guila Bustabo(The Queen Tiger!) Viktor Tretjakov(The King Violinist!) Gidon Kremer Itzak Perlman!

Such a relief, after years of covid, one natural disaster after another, so much danger in so many places, but here he is, still safe, playing as wonderfully as ever. 40 minutes spent listening to James Ehnes is 40 minutes well spent.

Exquisite! Victorious performance of Johannes Brahms: Violin Concerto No.2. Violin virtuoso James Ehnes is known to bring the best out of him.
A firm believer in chances: to find the concert a bit more than 3 months later(saw on his tour schedule) on home page.
    Thank you.

FYI, Brahms only wrote one violin concerto.

@@stickyrice1127 I don’t know where this No.2 came out on my comment 1 month ago, must be commenting on Brahms: Piano concerto No.2 somewhere else earlier. I definitely know that it was the only Brahms : Violin Concerto. I have listened to it so many times.

Concertmaster: dynamics are written by Brahms….you dont have to overact them….if people ignore what is written…it doesnt help if you want to replace the conductor or something like that….people play what THEY want, not what YOU want nowadays….
