Yes. He is marvellous and very sympathetic to the victim (student) and to Vengerov's usual story telling. It takes a very patient student to listen to all of this without feeling the whole show is about Maxim, in a good way but Vengerov can sometimes be oppressive to the student, however inspired.
MV said that "to play simple is very difficult." How right he is!! We have a generation of soloists who tend to play with excessive emotional affectation and overindulgence on every single note. It tires the ear and makes for a boring performance, despite the facial grimaces, knee bends, and other contortions. As listeners, we need the contrasts and the surprises for enjoying the dimensions and depths of the music. Nathan Milstein was a master of making everything he played fresh and new to listeners who had heard it all many times before. Like Jascha Heifetz or David Oistrakh, there was never any navel gazing or silly affectations. The music was always played honestly and served straight up! Thank you for sharing what I consider to be one the best masterclasses I've ever seen! MV is truly a great master artist-teacher.
Luke Hsu is a truly fantastic violinist in his own right. What a fabulous student but so much more. Love his smile and humility. He brought out the best in Vengerov as a musician and teacher, with so much expression and technicality up for interesting demonstration. After watching this Masterclass I am left feeling enriched in music, the violin and smiling about life! Bravo to both Luke and Maxim. ❤️
This is the best practical preparation for a touring soloist I have seen. Many masterclasses have hinted at it with the most common feedback being about projecting your sound, as well as the orchestral harmony etc, but this is so in depth. And his comments on selflessness! Loving it
Brahms es tan hermoso y especial, que no basta con ser virtuoso, conectar con la música requiere inteligencia, instinto y sensibilidad. Increíble. Gran Maestro Vengerov.
The beginning of the concerto is like this: the day starts at the dawn. The morning sunlight gradually fills the small city with its walls and magnificent gate. The citizens of the city begin to start the daily activities. Then a glorious military parade started and all citizens joined the festival. The festival ends and the citizens went back to their peaceful daily life. Suddenly a news quickly spreads through out the city that a massive army of the enemy is fast approaching. They are intending to surround and sack the city. The situation is dire and the people begin to panic. At this moment our hero (start of the solo violin) appears. He summons and inspires the people for the defence of the city. He foretells a triumphant victory.
Conductor's view: 29:10 ,soloists, please dont turn to the orchestra during concert. if you must communicate a change turn to the conductor. Otherwise half theborchesta feels compelled to follow the soloist whereas whoever cant see him continues to f9llow the conductor and now the orchesta suddenly has 2 conductors and chaos ensues. When i work with soloists, including the fabulous Veng erov, i insist that we discuss all details before the orchestra rehearsal. THANK you mozarteum for these lovely masterclasses and congratulations to the talented students and the incredible teacher❤
Maxim is an absolute phenomenon. It’s a great pleasure to watch his performances. If you have ever been to his concerts you may understand what I’m talking about.
I know what you mean, his are the only masterclasses I can enjoy as art, entertainment and education all at the same time. I watched his earlier session with a very young Chloe Hanslip at least 2 dozen times and I still get something new out of it each time.
Dear Master Maxim! Haven’t seen you for ages! Missing your performances that much!! Now it’s Corona time, and the main wish for me is to visit your nearest concert after all this disaster is over ❤️ thanks to this channel for providing these exquisite masterclasses to the audience ❤️
Oh my god I love watching Vengerov interpreting music and teaching. It's an art itself. But also have to give kuddos to Luke Hsu as well! He's done so well under pressure with an audience. Though I know Vengerov is not there to criticize, but somehow it's pretty intense and I think I would have cried if I were him hahaha! I guess having a thicker skin is needed for the industry
As allways, Mr Vengerov great way of teaching! separatetopic: what kind of VLM Viva La Musica shoulder rest does Mr Maxim Vengerov use? it looks like Diamond model but a new different shape? (see at 23:45)
It's very nice with just clean , clear textures in piano . I know we are missing all the special timbres of winds and the character of brass and so on . It's not just the novelty of hearing it this way . The tuttis dont have the majesty and lots are missing . It seems that after the very opening the passage with the octaves and double notes all written by Brahms in staccatto(Joachim would never have written accent marks on all those 16th's but the rhythm is against the orch and is never heard in the auditorium . Common sense says they demand bite . I've heard dozens of performances where because of the accompaniment it is not heard it is angry before we go into the serenity of the theme (so like the pastoral serene nature of the 2nd Symphony in the same key !)
I get the feeling that Vengerov doesn't like this student very much. He has a lot of criticism of him that doesn't have anything to do with his playing but with his style, his behavior, his posture, even his ego. I just feel that maybe there's a history between them affecting this class.
Is this conducting class? not violin master class? what is he talking about? Why he explaining structure of symphony? Does he trying to show his conductorship? I am confused what is he talking about?
Take me back to old school.heifetz.kresiler.stern perlman.total different generation of violinist.its more show and move around the violin is moving all over the place.maybe leopard Auer can explain it to those who want to learn what I mean.just like the teacher said he's fighting.we will never replace our greatest violinist of yesteryear.think about it.
edward goldsmith I’m afraid, that’s a matter of taste. I’m following Maxim all over the world trying to visit as many of his concerts as possible. I’m his true fan and I do understand something about classical music and its performing. Just no point in arguing. Maxim is the best forever. No one compares to him nowadays.
@@apassionante there's no argument. Next time you follow him ask him about heiftz.he will give you an ear fill.today yes he is one of the greatest.but he's not heiftz.he will tell you so himself.have a good day and keep safe.
edward goldsmith I allow Maxim be no Heifetz at all. Let it be. The world knows who is the diamond of all the violinists. And Maxim’s bank accounts verify that ✌️
Can we give a big shoutout to the amazing pianist

Very true..
You said everything

44:02 Student: sorry... Maestro: Not sorry (for me) sorry for Brahms LOL
At 29:45 the student and the pianist were so beautifully cooperating together.
Man, he scared the soul out of the pianist in 17:58 😂😂😂
I am laughing so hard
He can do that !!!
20:32 If you are facing the audience with your scroll it means you really dont freaking care LOL
I subconsciously move around all the time 😅 and thus don’t even notice if I’m standing correctly.
Maxim Vengerov ist ein wünderbar Lehrer. ❤❤
Danke für der Masterclass.

I'm a pianist. He definitely made some very interesting points for all musicians to consider.
Absolutely

Great masterclass, and awesome pianist!
Vengerov and the pianist should just record the whole concerto together seriously
Humble, modest, passionate and talented. One of a kind.
Thats really a Masterclass!

Er ist so musikalisch und hat so viele wunderbare Ideen! Danke sehr!

It's like fourth time I rewatch this and I understand his metaphors better and better. Piece of art he is himself.

It is so easy to miss the doubts and uncertainties that are part and parcel of any such work in favour of the positive affirmation!
Ponja genio, me encantóuy prolijo y sonoro❤❤❤

I´d love to be a spectator.

This one was spicy...

Does anyone know what violin Maxim used on his Sibelius D minor recording?

54:10 😂
23:03 with closed captions on we can confirm Vengerov is professing his love for "SHELLY!!!"
I think he is saying accel?
What is your favorite singer ? Mine is Maxim Vengerov 😍😍😍 Lol )
Someone knows video that Maxim teaches young boy for Carmen Fantasy?
FANTÁSTICO
28:27 NIce jab at violists :D

23:20 to 23:38 is absolutely beautiful.
I'm a violist and I can confirm. We really don't give a damn
24:16 wahaha
Wow 👏
Dis prof it 50% good
The young man obviously (and justifiably) worships his professor: Same satin stripe on his trousers.
That was a hard class and I am not even the violinist.
The bow of the student the it’s like 1 horsehair from the bow was almost removed from the bow LOl
Vengerov es maravilloso¡¡¡
Is this conducting class? not violin master class? what is he talking about? Why he explaining structure of symphony? Does he trying to show his conductorship? I am confused what is he talking about?
You missed the entire point
I wonder who are those twelve putting their dislikes to this vid?! That’s absolutely unbelievable 🤷♀️
All from that one weird guy with terrible punctuation and spelling :) :)
ROASTED
