    Hey, I just want to give this tutorial an appreciation even though it's been that long. I haven't found any tutorial that would give me the 'realistic frame' look. Most videos just create a flat frame looking a bit weird-ish. The simple bevel and emboss trick worked perfectly! Thank you!

    This is exactly the technique that I was looking for. The separation of the Background from the Picture makes all the difference and gives the most flexibility for changing all effects. Thank you!

    By default, the bottom layer is named Background and is locked. Among other things, it can't be transparent. If you expand the canvas, it will automatically be filled with your choice of color. If you first unlock the background layer (double-click on the little lock icon to the right of the layer name) and give it another name, then it will be unlocked. You can then expand the canvas and it will be transparent.

    This was a GREAT video! I was able to produce the exact same results with my own photo! Thank you for taking the time to create this. I even looked at one from Scott Kelby and he used a technique that was not nearly as straight forward as this.

      Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.

    I got this to work for me twice but now when I am trying to do the stroke part, the color fills in the "mat" part of the picture instead of around it like a frame... I'm doing everything the same way as before...not sure what's going wrong

  • @joeproietti8322

    Do you save as a jepeg and do flatten the image before you save it

    • @CraigStocksArts
      @CraigStocksArts  4 года назад

      I always save the original as a Photoshop PSD file with layers intact. If I need a JPG I will save-as to create a copy.

  • @CraigStocksArts

    I use frames similar to the digital version, usually a simple black frame. When I use a mat I use a plain white mat. The end result is very much like the way I post images on my blog at craigstocksarts

  • @JoeyThomas
    @JoeyThomas 10 лет назад

    when I expanded my canvas size, the background was not transparent, and I could not find out how to make it that way

    For stroke patterns (the frame) I would like a wood pattern. I have such textures, but where do I put them in Photoshop so that they show up in the stroke pattern drop down menu?

    • @CraigStocksArts
      @CraigStocksArts  4 года назад +1

      You can add a pattern as a fill type on the stroke by double-clicking on the fx icon on the right side of the layer but I don't think you'll get the result you want since it won't follow the length of the stroke. For instance, if your wood grain pattern has the grain horizontal then it will go along the horizontal pieces but go across the vertical pieces.

    CAN I TAKE A PHOTO OF A FRAME DESIGN AND ADD IT TO THE FRAME IMAGE TO DUPLICATE IT

    • @CraigStocksArts
      @CraigStocksArts  2 года назад

      Not really since this process isn’t designed that way since it relies on Photoshop styles to create a frame.

    I like the video a lot, and I would want to try it out. but I do not have the opportunity to create a transparent canvas. Does anyone know how to do this in PS 6 ?
    Thanks in advance. Best regards Claus.

    I can't get pattern overlay to work?

    • @CraigStocksArts
      @CraigStocksArts  7 лет назад

      I don't know why it wouldn't work. It's a standard Photoshop style.
