►The new album "On My New Piano:
DG.lnk.to/my_n...
Barenboim was inspired to create a new piano after playing Franz Liszt’s restored grand piano during a trip to Siena in September 2011. Struck by the vital differences in sound of an instrument constructed with straight, parallel strings rather than the diagonal crossed ones of a contemporary instrument, he set out to create a brand new instrument that combines the best of the old and the new and offers a real alternative for pianists and music-lovers in the 21st century.

Lieber Herr Barenboim,
What a gift what great a gift is Barenboim, the top of music - what a gift.
I agree completely about the "great pianist" definition!! Barenboim himself is the one, for me, who makes me feel like I could play that music (which is the highest compliment I could think of)
I never thought Mr. Barenboim can be this sweet and straightforward. I realized great geniuses have this childlike characters in them. Thank you for being you sir!
My son watched your videos over and over. You became his teacher by watching your videos again and again! You are the gift God give us!
You are a great master with a great heart!
Thank you!
Thank you, Maestro, and thank you RUclips for making this kind of communication possible. Love these talks!
Merveilleux... Génial.... Monsieur Daniel Barenboim.... Un vrai bonheur de vous écouter... Tellement juste..
Your work popularizing music, making non-musicians and non-specialists discover, enjoy and decode the great repertoire pieces has always been important. I recall you teaching Beethoven on the TV, many, many years ago when we were both younger, and it's great to have you back doing this for another generation. Thank you, Daniel.
Maestro, I found your comparison of tempo to a suitcase profound and staggering in its simplicity. This is a wonderful analogy. Thank you for all that you do and best wishes from the UK.
Thank you for being there!
Always one of my favorites! He's definitely a Gentleman of the Arts and a true Steward of the Great Masters!
Hi, dear Mr. Barenboim, I am so surprised but real happy to watch this episode of replying video to your auditors on line! You are so serious and respectful to your fans!!!
I do agree with you the way about how to make difference between a good pianist and a great pianist...thank you for all about your knowledge and intelligence about music here!!! So great you are!!! Bravo!!!
He is a great musician, but I'm also astonished of how many languages he can.
His spanish is actually better than his English
Well, that is because he is argentine
Yes, I've watched many of Barenboim's videos on YTube, and his multilingualism is quite literally awesome. He's truly fluent in English, Spanish, Hebrew, German, French and Italian. (It took me a while to find a few videos where he's speaking French or Italian, but sure enough...)
I don't speak a word of Hebrew, but I do speak every language maestro spoke in this video.
That's not astonishing or awesome, that's something anyone can do. Just go ahead and learn all these languages. It's not hard. I managed to do it, and I'm an idiot.
Nobody is holding you back except for yourself.
Kind of like with music, really. Anyone can do it. There is no such thing as talent. "Talent" is just a shorthand for "I could do this, but I am really lazy".
You could be the next Barenboim. Yes, you. But instead you waste your days on RUclips lamenting how you're not Barenboim. Well, then. Good luck with building a life on top of that.
You are the Gardel Of Classical Music !
A master class about modesty. Thank you maestro.
I always wondered how many languages mr Barenboim can use to communicate. Watching this sequence, I am even more with uncertainty on how many languages this great artist musician has in his luggage. Thanks for such educative programs.
These videos are quickly becoming among the highlights of my week. Maybe a year and a half ago, I listened to the fourteenth string quartet of Beethoven and since then it has remained my favorite work of art and my favorite work of music. No other piece engenders humanity as a whole as this does; no other ventures into the deepest crevices of sorrow and beauty at once as this does; no other represents life itself as this does! I believe this piece to be the pinnacle of the collective creative efforts of men. I would love a video on your opinion of this work as well as one in which you tell us about your own favorite work of music. Thank you for these videos.
Schubert was much taken with this string quartet, too.
Love the eccentric use of “commentaries” in these videos
Gracias!
Great video! I really enjoyed it. Keep up the great work, maestro.
I will add to the many voices here. Thank you, maestro, for taking the time to educate and inspire us to learn and do more in the wonderful world of music.
Thanks to YOU TUBE for providing appreacitation talk by Daniel barenboim on w.classical.we from orient need more on this to enjoy more w classical mosaic.
I didn't expect to chuckle so when I decided to watch this! How delightful. I love your sense of humour.
Very nice and very very informative over the matters that were discussed. Many thanks for your generosity and great insight
Anybody who has diggen little depth in music knows that Barenboim is a genius!
Dear Mr.Barenboim, in your opinion, what is musical talent?
Dedication, you could've learned any piece of music in these last three years. Have you?
Talent is when it comes naturally and you don't have to try like everyone else for the same results.
You are a joker, Daniel!
I enjoyed very much your answers. Thanks.
Bonjour Monsieur Barenboim !
I usually never ever comment on youtube videos, but your channel is such an incredible opportunity to learn from music geniuses ! Here is my question :
I have always wondered - how do you feel during the applause after a concert if you are not satisfied by your performance ?
Thank you so much for taking time to share your precious insight into music and other topics, and to answer your viewers' comments.
Mr. Barenboim, could you make a video about the music of Boulez?
I'd like to second this request.
Me, too
Yes and on a more general level, some advice for the layman on how to listen to modern music post-WW2
Gracias
What a mind, what a mensch.
Delightful and insightful!! Listening to your commentary is detoxification for my mind!!!
Mr. Barenboim, this question may not be as interesting as the others but if you could answer,I was fairly curious of how you came to the wonderful conclusion of creating a RUclips channel? It was an extraordinary idea and the videos you put up bring joy to all our ears(I believe) because it brings a change from the usual commercialized videos and advertisers that fill the socializing networks we use everyday! Greetings from Romania!
Hello Maestro, a question:
If Beethoven was still alive in the 19th century, which side do you think he would have been on in terms of musical politics? Would he have sided with Brahms and the musical conservatives, Liszt/Wagner and the progressives, or embraced both sides?
Thank you for your time with this question and greetings from the USA!
Since Brahms was Beethoven’s follower, I think he would get to him, not Liszt or Wagner.
If he is alive. He would make his own side. And not side with any of the 2.
Grande Barenboim! Thanks!!! 🙏😊
bravo maestro
Gran, gran! Maestro Don Daniel!!
Great answer to the question about simplicity and complexity. really enjoyed.
Maestro, I would like to ask you for your opinion on the following. Why has no composer managed to recreate the style of J.S.Bach? From Mozart to Gould they have tried but without success. What did he possess to compose such music using the musical form of counterpoint? Why has no one else been able to recreate this form in such a wondrous manner? I listen to your rendition of his Well Tempered Clavier everyday. I have crossed all musical borders throughout my life but now at past 60 his music is more than adequate enough for my daily fix of music. I am also working through his inventions at the piano, revisited after many years.
Good question!!!!
First of all thank you very much for sharing such musical moments and thoughts with us. Your opinions regarding music and Humanity are really interesting and inspiring. It feels like everything you do as a musician has a deeper purpose than just an artistic expression. In your opinion, what is or could be, the role of an artist in nowadays ?
Warmest,
Philippe Baden Powell
I really love your interpretation of the Beethoven's Sonata op 2,no 3,especially the second movement. How can you stay so focused and calm for the entire piece?Thank you!
For me all of his Beethoven Sonatas are among my favourite renditions. Daniel Barenboim and Beethoven fits together!
Thank you maestro!
Maestro Barenboim i thank you from all my heart for making these usefull video for free ! Ive been trying to reach you for the past 2 years but never works, wanted to ask about the west eastern dive! Im from the middle east , My name is Mikhael &im self taught musician , Its Bachs music that kept me alive ! Question : any musicians can enter the west eastern divine ?
I like the way Daniel approaches music in a philosophical way. This is actually quite rare, Music implies aesthetics and meaning. It seems to me that it has an existence even beyond great composers; for when composing it's never possible for mere mortals to trap entirely what they 'heard' - heard with the inner ear, that is. The thing they didn't trap also exists...it has a half-life and this is why we can sometimes imagine writing quite different versions of Mozart in our minds. So what on earth was going on when Mozart wrote K574 in an organist's guest book? It was a private thought - not music, really to be played. Played on the organ? It's like Scarlatti; and it's like the last Bach Fugue of Book 1. I think it is by no means a prestissomo Gigue - nor even a Gigue. It is more like, 'The Musical Offering' and needs an Andante con vivo tempo. If we analyze its counterpoint (I found nothing on the internet about the relationship between Mozart and Scarlatti) we will maybe see it shows signs of the fingerprints of extra-terrestial life. And if you play it on the organ, you must sustain that last C to the end.
U r a gr8 Maestro ❤
i was happy to comprehend the Spanish! This man speaks at least five languages fluently that I’ve witnessed!
Barenboim speaking French or Italian were the hardest to find on RUclips, but I stumbled across several. It's amazing to me that someone can be truly fluent in six languages! (Spanish, Hebrew, German, French, Italian and English)
Dear Barenboim, How do you practice a new piece?
Gracias maestro.
Me encantan tus vídeos.
Gracias.
Dear Daniel Barenboim,
Thank you for the opportunity. My question is that from a professionals opinion, what do you think about the way that Shostakovich would take a traditional melody that Beethoven or Mozart would play and make it into his own beautiful creation.
Mr. Barenboim, Thank you for all your great videos. A while ago you made a video as an "Introduction to Bruckner" in which you comment on the psychology of Bruckner as being "medieval". Could you make another video commenting on that? I am relatively sure of what you mean by medieval, but would like to hear more. We in New York are all looking forward to your Bruckner Cycle next year!
This is so heartwarming !
Mr.Barenboim, would you give some advices for practising and memorizing long pieces? Thank you for all these greats videos!
You said it yourself, practice.
Dear Mr. Barenboim, what can musicians do to improve the diffusion of the Contemporary Music repertoire? Thank you, Simone
Dear Barenboim, does a piece of music's length contribute significantly (if at all) to its grandiosity? Works like the Liszt Sonata, Beethoven's Hammerklavier or Rach's variations on Chopin's funeral prelude are very long pieces indeed but is a work like Beethoven's 22nd piano sonata any less grand? Or even Claire du Lune by Debussy?
Why Bach is great Mr barenboim?
I can't understand it! Just so understandable music, so straight, why it is fantastic?
I don't mean music should be uneasy but when I listen to bach, I don't get any feeling like Beethoven or mozart, it's so logical and... I don't know how to say that... Just I don't know how to listening to his music to understand it in my way.
Bonjour Monsieur Barenboim
Bien musicalement
great great great
That Spanish opening was awesome
What a sweet evening for this friday.. Tank You Maestro...
Go on help us with Beethoven, Chopin or Mozart
I'm not alone when I hear you.
Maestro Barenboim, can you please share your thoughts about complex music---music by such composers as Mahler, Bruckner, Shostakovich.
Dear Mr. Barenboim,
Is there a secret to listening to Bach's music and liking it? Or baroque in general? I really do not enjoy it at all, and actually only enjoy classical and romantic music, but I really want to expand my taste of music more.
Not sure, I like Karl Richter's style in St John & St Matthew passions, and some older cantata recordings by him. Harnoncourt, Gardiner, and similar often conduct it light and fluffy, which I don't find so appealing.
Even though my case is different from yours - I always liked baroque music - what really helps in my opinion is to analize a piece, for example a fugue. Finding the individual themes and contrapuncts, calls and answers in the piece, marking them and at last listening to the piece and recognizing it all helped me a great deal to understand a piece better. Additionally you dont have to do it for each and every other fugue you listen to since you begin to more and more understand the structure and rules of that type of music.
Grande
Fantastic! wonderful channel. I am a hopeless piano player, I have been learning my two part inventions incredibly slowly for nearly ten years, I can't seem to play anything else despite trying. The only tutor I have is Josef Hofmann's famous book.
How do you play the octave glissandi at the end of the Waldstein Sonata without winding up in the emergency room with two broken 5th fingers?
Maestro.
Mr Barenboim, could you please make a video about Schoenberg's music?
Muchas gracias nuevamente.
I am in awe, linguist as well 😳😳
Abrazo!
Dear Maestro I am from China. I like your BBC documentary A Hundred Million Musicians: China's Classical Challenge. My question: Aside from the success of a handful of individuals like instrumentalists, singers and composers etc, what would be your advice for China to produce a world's leading orchestra?
Could you please do a video on the second movement of Beethoven op.111. the Anlaysis of it and most importantly provide some tups on how to produce the right sound and coulurs for this piece. Particularly the opening theme (how to get a warm sound) and last bits where the music transcends to a completely different world.
Gracias.
